General Discussion / Bluetooth News?
« on: October 19, 2004, 01:17:53 pm »
That's no good news.

Regarding the bluetooth headset: On my desktop I use it for speech input and telephony/videophony.  On the Zaurus I would like to use it as a microphone for taking notes and for VoIP.

Well the Sharp management seem to create more problems than they solve. :-(

Hi,

1) Sharp offers the 6000 as a business tool.
2) The release of the 6000 with bluetooth will take some time.

1)+2) = Wild Guess:

The 6000 bluetooth version will come with a full bluetooth stack, esspecially including support for headphones. This would finally give us comfortable bluetooth connectivity.

Does anybody know if this guess is too wild?

Well, I got it working by disabling all network devices except the Zaurus USB one.

Cxx0 General discussions / Just ordered C860 from pricejapan
« on: October 09, 2004, 06:40:54 pm »
Hi,

I also got my C860 from PriceJapan some weeks ago. Although I am no linux expert everything worked out fine. I bought a Netgear CF Wireless card and it worked easily (just plug it in). Setting up Outlook syncing was a bit more difficult, but it now works.

What I do miss:

* IR sync
* printing to network printers

I ordered a BlueMonkey CF Bluetooth card and I am looking forward to get it. I am hoping that I will not be too disappointed, because in overal bluetooth on Zaurus seems to be a mess. It would be really really great to get all profiles I am used to on my desktop (headset profile). Btw. does anybody know what bluetooth stack will be used in the 6000 bluetooth version? Maybe this will be fully featured and can be used on our C860 as well?

So relax, you will be getting a cool toy. If you want to buy a case, just go into your local camera shop and buy a camera bag. There are some cheap ones out there which will fit perfectly well.

General Discussion / USB Network Problem
« on: October 06, 2004, 03:12:50 pm »
Hi, I use a C860, Windows XP SP2 both equipped with wireless lan connected through a network router to the Internet.

If I connect the Zaurus through USB to my PC, the Zaurus network drive (Samba) can only be accessed, when the W-Lan on the Zaurus is running. Now if I transfer files, packets are sent through USB and received through W-Lan. Using only one network method does not result in any useful traffic.

This problem seems to make it impossible to Sync my Zaurus. It can be synced if a use a PC with Windows XP but without SP2 and wireless lan (but with wired Ethernet access to the same router and the Internet).

Does anybody know how to solve this assymetric communication problem?

Ok I seem to have identified the problem:

The Zaurus network drive (Samba) can only be accessed, when the W-Lan on the Zaurus is running. Now if I transfer files, packets are sent through USB and received through Ethernet (W-Lan). Maybe this is the problem when trying to sync to.

Does anybody know how to solve this assymetric communication problem?

General Discussion / Windows XP SP 2 Sync Problem
« on: September 26, 2004, 02:17:24 pm »
Hi, I habe two computers running Windows XP. One with the new service pack and one without the new service pack.

My big problem is now, that Windows XP with SP 2 cannot sync anymore with my C860. Instead of showing a progress bar window, a message with an OK button is displayed and nothing ever happens. Without SP 2 everything works fine.

I am using the driver and Intellisync software from the original Japanese CD-ROM. On both computers the USB network is running and working.

Please help!

Cxx0 General discussions / Buy or not buy?!
« on: September 22, 2004, 05:26:50 pm »
Just a quick posting to say THANK YOU to all users contributing to this site. By reading here I managed to buy a Zaurus from Japan, to install X-Windows and to run my Java Applets. THANKS! :-)

p.s.:

While running GIMP is cool, using it might be a bit difficult, because the user interface elements are really really tiny. Running Java Applets inside a webbrowser would be nice but seems to be impossible. Syncing my Desktop (Outlook) with the Zaurus PIMs seem not to work, but maybe the router IP address is the problem. I will see...

So what to do now? ;-)

Piel Frama does also sell a very nice case for the C860. Unfortunately I run into some problem using it. Which means that I cannot close the shell. Anyone got the same case and not this problem?

Do you know how to configure Netfront or Opera for Java Applets?

I ordered one, got one and I am currently giving it a try. ;-)

one = a C860

So far it looks good and useful. Converting from Japanese to English was no problem at all.

Thanks again for the reply.

I did some additional research on my own and found answers to the following questions:

5) It has no built in microphone, but the headphone jack also works as a microphone jack. You can even use headphones to record sound. At least someone tried it and was satisfied with the quality.
6) There is a IPsec implementation available. There is software available which works as Cisco VPN client. That's nice and necessary to access most of the university WLAN networks I know...
7) There is a HP48 emulator called X48 available, but it needs X-Windows.

Unfortunately I couldn't find information about Java Applications.

Thank you for your feedback!

Well, I am already using a notebook but I would like to use something smaller and equally powerful with pen support. The Zaurus seems to fit into this category. If it supports Java applications one could use them on the desktop and the Zaurus...
