For Sale / Wanted / For Sale: Luxury Leather Belt Case For Sl-5x00
« on: September 06, 2005, 07:01:38 am »
Tan/Black luxury leather case made by Piel Frama for 3E Limited. Specially made for the Sharp Zaurus SL-5500 (or SL-5000D)(the SL-5600 probably won't fit because of the big battery bay)- an excellent fit, and the CF, SD, IrDA and Headphone ports are still very accessible (there is a slot for the Sharp I/O Port, but my connector was too big for it- the serial cables will probably fit, but I can't guarantee this. The cable for Sharp's charger doesn't fit either (I didn't find this a problem as I always took it out of the case to charge it anyway), but most battery extenders do).

This case is still boxed and is in excellent condition, just some scratches on the plastic belt clip- the leather is still immaculate. The "WIPS" belt clip is excellent- it is rotatable, easily removable, and will clip firmly around your belt (it will also clip well even if you don't have a belt).

Please note that this is a well designed, quality luxury leather case which fits very well- it is not like those cheap "leather book cases". Still worth nearly 40 pounds, but I am willing to sell it for 25 pounds with free shipping to UK!

Pictures Available Here

I think a personal cheque is probably the best way to transfer payment, but I have a personal Paypal account- if you know how that works then you could use that instead.

Please email systemparadox@hotmail.com if you are interested in buying.

6000 - Tosa / Pegasus Module For 6k (2.4.18-rmk7-pxa3-embedix)
« on: June 27, 2005, 05:20:58 am »
Hi. I have just bought a pegasus II usb ethernet adapter for my 6k. I don't have any compilers set up on the Z or any cross compiler. I can only find versions of this module which have been compiled against the 2.4.20 kernel- these don't work- I have the stock sharp kernel- 2.4.18-rmk7-pxa3-embedix.

Please could someone compile one for me or point me in the direction of a precompiled one.
Thanks in advance

Guylhem Rom / Urgent- Stuck Flashing?
« on: May 16, 2005, 03:44:55 pm »
I downloaded syst0006.dbk-QT-1.5 and copied it to my sd card in my cf adapter as syst0006.dbk. Following the instructions on http://externe.net/zaurus/guylhem-rom/README all the way. I connected the AC adapter to make sure. I got to diagnostic mode, went right three times, selected NAND Restore and pressed OK _once_ (why does it say ok twice in the README?). It then came up with white screen with black text at the top saying "NAND Restore from CF". It has been like that for more than 2 HOURS now. There are no leds on.

Please... what have I done wrong? What should I do? Should it take this long? Has it even started updating the NAND? Is it safe to reset it?

I posted in the main thread asking why we had to do NAND updates and couldn't use updater.sh, zImage and initrd.bin files, but no-one said anything.

Thankyou

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxrom Compatibility
« on: May 08, 2005, 01:25:02 pm »
Hi all.
A while back I started a thread in the OZ area of the forum.
https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=11824&hl=

As part of the above thread I have a couple of questions about pdaXrom:

1. Is pdaXrom running X, a cut down X, or something else?
2. How does pdaXrom manage to run apps for the Sharp ROM?
3. Can it also run opie apps?

Thankyou in advance

6000 - Tosa / Usb Power/current Limits
« on: April 28, 2005, 04:12:38 pm »
Does anyone if there are any limits to the current/power that the USB host on the 6000 will provide?
Also, what sort of current drain should I be looking for? What is the norm for card readers, ethernet adapters, mice, keyboards, etc?

Thanks
Simon

For Sale / Wanted / Usb Host Adapter
« on: April 14, 2005, 11:58:09 am »
I have looked and looked and looked for this cable, but I can find very few, and those that I do find will not sell to the UK.
I am looking for a short (5-15cm) mini-A male to standard A female usb cable. I want the mini-A plug to be as small as possible, to make sure that it can be used in the cradle and to help reduce the chance of damage to the port.

The iriver one looks good: https://secure1.nexternal.com/shared/StoreF...&RowID=104&All=
but if anyone has seen one with a smaller mini-A plug please speak up.

Firstly, if anyone knows of anywhere I can get this in the UK then I would prefer to take that option.
Failing that (and I have so far), is anyone in the US willing to buy a cable and post it to me? If anyone is, could you give me a quote for the cost of the cable and for postage.

The other problem is how to pay. I think I would prefer to pay via paypal, but I am open to suggestions provided it is fast(ish) and secure.

Thanks very much

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / $path Won't Export
« on: April 01, 2005, 08:28:24 am »
I feel very stupid having to ask this, I do a lot with shell scripts and I'm sure it's very simple, but I can't seem to change the $PATH with a shell script on OZ.

PATH=$PATH:/mnt/card/.zgcc/bin
export PATH

Why doesn't that work?

Thanks

General Discussion / Speed Comparison
« on: February 28, 2005, 03:08:09 pm »
I'm sure this would be very useful for everyone...
Could someone with a bit more knowledge in this area give us a comparison of flash memory please?
I'm thinking of: CF, SD, MMC, possibly others for reference (SM? miniSD? CF-Microdrive? RS-MMC?), and their ultra high speed variants.

Also, what speeds are the Zaurii capable of (and any differences)?

Thanks

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / How To Send A File Over Infrared?
« on: February 26, 2005, 08:21:43 am »
I can receive files fine, but I can't work out how to send them.
Hold on file, beam, "Sending file: blah-de-blah-de-blah" dialog comes up, fine.

Little red cross icon: bluetooth is not available (i don't have bluetooth so that's fine)(underlined blue text- looks like a hyperlink).

Infrared icon: TPT20 Try 1 (TPT20 being the name of the other device)(again, looks like a hyperlink)

There is very little activity over the irda link, and even after 15 minutes nothing has changed on  either computer. I have tried tapping on everything in the window with no effect whatsoever. Tapping the close button closes it without sending the file (fair enough).

I'm sure it's very simple, but what am I missing?

Just to make sure: has anybody been able to beam a file using OZ 3.5.2 Opie?

Thanks
Simon

Accessories / Sd To Cf Adapter
« on: February 23, 2005, 12:19:11 pm »
Hi,
There are currently several sd cf adapters (so you can plug sd card into cf slot) going on uk ebay for about 16 pounds.

This would be really handy for me- my SD cannot be removed without much much hassle, and all my friends have SD phones, mp3 players, etc and my CF is always free.

If you want to have a look heres a link to one:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...3875827610&rd=1

They are eagletec ones, cf type II (which I'm sure the Z supports), though it says that they are not suitable for RS-MMC.

What is RS-MMC?
Are these Zaurus compatible?
Is there anything else I should know?
Will it support high speed sd?

Thanks

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / A Use For The Mail Led?
« on: February 05, 2005, 03:07:11 pm »
A few questions...

1. In OZ, what (if anything), makes use of the mail led?
2. Why doesn't zauledsignaliser work? Can it be made to work?
3. Is there an OZ equivalent to zauledsignaliser?
4. Can I make use of the leds in shell scripts? If so, how?

Thanks

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / English-russion Translator/dictionary
« on: January 29, 2005, 09:33:55 am »
I have had my Z for several months now, and have only just remembered the main reason I bought it in the first place- to use it as a russian translator/dictionary.

Does anyone know of any good free software which I can use for this?
Or, if there are no free apps, what the best one to buy is?

I would really like one which can have plugins so it can do other languages too: Japanese, Spanish, Polish, French and German are also on my list.

Thanks
Simon

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Opie Won't Start Properly
« on: January 20, 2005, 10:36:31 am »
OK,
I have just reflashed for the third time in the past 4 days because of this.
I can't work out what triggers it, but I have a sneaky suspicion that it's those expansion cards again.

If I decide to shut down, or if i have to do a hard reboot, opie sometimes cannot start properly on the next boot. I just see a 1 px high line at the bottom of the screen- the rest is blank. It seems to still be running- I can get in via wifi (and something flickers if I plug the card in), but it doesn't respond to any taps or key presses.
That's it. If this happens it seems to be time for a reflash. No amount of rebooting can fix it. I can still use the console fine by cancelling opie's startup, and this has proved very useful for backing up things on root. There have been times inbetween that I have rebooted (hard or soft) fine, so I can't work out what causes it to do this.

Has anyone else had this problem?
Any suggestions?

Thanks
Simon

Deals and Great Z Buys / Where To Get 6000?
« on: January 19, 2005, 12:19:06 pm »
I've been reading through the other threads (including the one about the jpettins scam), but ebay seems to have dried up (1 unit- in america, over the past 2 weeks) and amazon is still out of stock.

I saw a 6000 go for 190 pounds on ebay before christmas- i am kicking myself for not snapping it up, but then i was torn between the 6000 and the 860 (still am, but leaning towards 6000 now). It's the only one I have ever seen available in the uk- which really sucks.

I know there where loads before christmas- where have they all gone?
Is sharp still making them?
Where did the pile of them come from? Did some company dump a load of them or something?
Where can I get one in the uk? I know we're getting $1.89 to the pound, but I still can't afford to pay many of the prices I have seen. 250 pounds is my limit really, including delivery (so I doubt I'll ever get one).
How much can I expect to pay for shipping from US to UK?

Thanks
Simon
