Sharp ROMs / Can't Boot

Never mind! this guy had the same problem I had, and he figured out how to solve it, and now my Zaurus runs again. Thanks,  cavaughan!

Sharp ROMs / Can't Boot
« on: December 01, 2004, 01:36:31 pm »
Okay... it's my fault. I moved the switch to "Replace battery" and back to stop a stubbornly slow application because I was too lazy to open a shell and kill it. But how do I fix it? Here's what happens.

I'm running the Crow ROM. I press the power button. The penguin appears, I get some messages, everything looks normal, it gives me the "Please wait for approximately one minute" screen, and there it hangs forever.

I can look at the SD card (where /home is) from my Linux laptop, and I think I can look at the internal storage on the Z by booting without the SD card in place so that I get a shell prompt. But what do I look for? I'm assuming some file is broken somewhere. Anyone know what I need to fix?

One thing it does say on boot is:

ext2fs_check_if_mount: No such file or directory while determining whether /dev/mtdblock1 is mounted

Could be the problem maybe? But later it says /dev/mtdblock1: 2245/31360 files (1.6% non-contiguous)... so it's seeing something there. It looks like it knows that the filesystem has changed, and it's doing the regular Linux filesystem check. But then it doesn't boot. I've let it sit for an hour on the "one minute" screen. Should I be more patient, and let it sit for a day or two?

Or am I faced with the unfortunate task of re-flashing the ROM, thereby losing all the WEP keys I've painstakingly entered in the Network app?

Sharp ROMs / Can't Install Software

Cool. So, is it safe to say that QPE and Opie and QTopia things all interoperate? Can I run stuff that has Opie or QT in the name?

P. S. I'm starting to actually get some use out of this weird little computer.

P. P. S. My new favorite error message ever is: "This package seems to depends [sic] on other packages. Please install them too."

Okay. I found and installed a  copy of Opera. So it seems that my trouble was (as you pointed out) due to the fact that the packages were compiled for the wrong ARM or for a different windowing manager.

So, where do I go to find software that will specifically work on QPE on the SL-5000D under Cacko ROMs? I'd love to have the GIMP, GAIM, an FTP client, and all that stuff. Is there a feed out there?

Darn.

All I want to do is run a browser and hopefully the GIMP on my 5000D with the Cacko ROMs. I seem to be able to install from the network if I have a feed available. Is there a browser (and hopefully a port of the GIMP) that will work on my machine, and if so does anyone know the URL?

I'm really grateful for your help so far, BTW. Thanks.

Okay, I got the wireless CF working, pointed my Zaurus at a feed (http://zaurus.spy.org/feeds/cacko/pdaXrom/26-FEB-2004/feed/) and I can see packages in the Package Manager. I click the "?" and see info about the package. I click Install and get back to the list. I click OK and it asks me if I want to install on CF or SD (grayed out) or Internal Storage. I select Internal Storage and click OK. It says it's processing. If I look in the Packages window (network packages) it has a blue dot next to the one I installed. If I look in the Uninstall Packages window the ones I installed show up.

BUT

None of the things I installed show up in Applications. I can uninstall them and reinstall them, reboot, etc. with no effect. I've installed (but can't see in Applications) the GIMP, GAIM, Konqueror-Embedded, and a few other things.

Why aren't they showing up in the Applications? How can I use these apps?

Sharp ROMs / Can't Install Software

I'm using the Cacko/Crow ROMs on my SL-5000D. I finally picked up my Zaurus today after I hadn't used it in a while, and decided to install some software. But I can't!

* if I go to Add/Remove, it doesn't find any packages
* if I go to the File manager and look in /home/Documents/Install_Files, there are all kinds of .ipk files (including some I know I installed at one point) but "Open in Add/Remove" doesn't work. It opens up Add/Remove, but there are no packages listed
* if I go to a shell and type ipkg install {package name ending in .ipk} then it tells me there was an unexpected end-of-file on the several that I downloaded tonight.

I finally got my wireless CF card working, and I would like a browser on my Zaurus. Can't get anything to install! What do I do?

Sharp ROMs / Can't see CF card
« on: October 21, 2004, 02:08:55 pm »
I just installed the Cacko ROM (the new beta with kernel 2.4.18) and now my SL-5000d can't see the CF card. That is, I get an icon in the taskbar when I insert it, and I can eject it, but in File Manager (or in a shell) it's always Not Available. I've tried several CF cards that were working when I was running OZ 3.5.1 or the stock Sharp ROM 1.3a. Any ideas?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Hancom Apps
« on: October 21, 2004, 12:38:29 pm »
As soon as I went to the Cacko ROM I was able to install and run Hancom, VIsualQ, and the other apps I've been having trouble with.

I'm going to chalk this up to OZ 3.5.1 really being more of an alpha than a beta

Hey, I found a version of the Sharp SL-5000D ROM. And guess what? I've actually been able to install and use a couple things. Oh, sure, Hancom isn't working for me yet... but qpaint, visualq and qphoto all work! And the GUI package manager can see my not-yet-installed packages! Pretty groovy.

So, for me, deleting OZ 3.5.1 has been a positive experience so far.

Sharp ROMs / Sharp 3.13 rom v/s others

Will that ROM for the 5500 work on the 5000D as well? If not, where can I find the stock ROM for the 5000D?

Argh! 404 on that ROM link. Thanks anyway, but it's gone.

Cool, thanks. I hope it works for me. Up until this point, OZ is the only one that actually seems to boot correctly. Other ROMs (Crow, etc.) tell me that something is spawning too fast and will be disabled for 5 minutes.

sigmaX: How can I get the Sharp ROM?
Will applications like the Hancom office stuff work with it on my 5000D? *Note: I know there's a ROM on the Sharp site for the 5500, but I have the 5000D... haven't found a ROM for that model.

I too am tempted to delete 3.5.1, maybe move to 3.2, or maybe try to find SL-5000D stock ROMs somewhere. I don't know where though.

Here's what I want to do with my Zaurus. If I can do these things, I'll be happy. Maybe you know how to make them work for me.

1. I want to be able to use the GUI package manager to install stuff. I'd like it to see the.ipk files I have in /mnt/card/Documents/Install_files (paraphrasing, may be spelled wrong) and I want it to resolve dependencies automatically if I have the correct .ipk files present to resolve them.

2. I want wireless to be set up so that I can also install stuff from the net.

3. I want to install the Hancom apps, including their image editor.

4. I want Opera or another browser, and a simple GUI FTP program.

5. I want to still be able to swap in a different SD card-- that is, I don't mind quitting all my apps before swapping, as long as I can copy files from the new SD card. So I don't mind having my apps installed on an SD card, although I think I have to have my home directory in RAM. I've got the 24/8 configuration of OZ in there right now.

If I can get these 5 things to work, then I can take a picture with my camera, copy the image from the camera's SD card to the Zaurus, edit the image, upload it to the web, look and see that it's there, and then write an OpenOffice-compatible document or spreadsheet. All from a cafe.

But under OZ 3.5.1 I can't install anything! Should I move to 3.2 or the stock ROM? Where can I find them?
