Just a quick update on my remote because I've received several offers to buy it.

Pricejapan was very understanding and are replacing it with an RH1 for me because of the error, so I am sending it back.  However, kudos to pricejapan for great service.  Recommended if you're looking to buy.

Well, here's what I've gathered from closer inspection.

I opened up my remote and compared it to the photos of the rh1 found here:

They are virtually identical.  The only noticable difference is an extra resistor between L1 and R3 (see left photo at the above link) and a tracer or two.  Here is a photo (sorry it is so blurry.  I couldn't get my crappy digital camera to focus on it.)

So, I checked out your hypothesis.  You are indeed correct, the ground and key lines have been changed around.  I tested this by inserting the remote jack 3/4 of the way in in both factory-default and swapped wiring configuration.  In the first case, nothing, in the second I got audio, which indicates to me that the RH2 has the ground wired to the sheath and not the first ring.

However, swapping them does not make the remote work.  With the remote's plug 'fixed' and plugged in properly, you get no audio and no response when pressing the buttons.  I tested the buttons using the keyhelper settings program.  It wasn't catching any keycodes.

Frankly, I think Sharp simply wants to screw over its customers who are upgrading by forcing them to purchase a new remote for no logical reason.  The product is virtually identical and it appears that what changes do exist are there simply to force incompatibility.

Needless to say, I'm now in the market for an RH1.  Anyone got one lying around?

Software / C3000 Apps For Cxxx

Well, it appears that even though the version numbers are the same, the libsl library (and possibly others) are actually different.  For example, the 1.11 movieplayer will run ok, but craps out when you click 'About' because of a function missing from my version of libsl.  Ditto for qtmail.

I suppose I could try updating my libsl, but I'm betting that would just cause more problems.

I've been playing around with the c3000 1.11 rom mentioned in this post:

with the intent to see what newer software I can get running on my c860 with cacko.

So far, I've packaged the Netfront 3.1, 1.5.4 update, which you can download below if you're interested.

I've been working on the music player now.  I have it working, but the wma plugin doesn't want to load for some reason.

Anyway, I'm curious to know if anyone else was doing the same.  Also, what differences (if any) are there in some of the other software that might make this effort worthwhile.

Mac Issues / Ann: Zmacsync-1.5 Available

Fortunately, I didn't have anything important on my Z... that's what my Treo is for.  Has anyone else had problems with either the latest OS X version or Cacko 1.22?  I'll try it all again this weekend... hopefully it works.

I did this too a while back.

Not sure about restoring (I just reinstalled cacko rom), but you don't need the zmacsync ipk.

Just install the dtm2xml ipk and you'll be fine.

The zmacsync ipk is just a combination of dtm2xml and the ssh server.  Cacko 1.22 already has the ssh component.

I just bought an 860 with remote from pricejapan and they sent me the rh2 model remote.  It doesn't seem to work with either the sharp or kino2 players (I use cacko).

The rh2 box only lists the c3000 model.  Does anyone know if this is supported on the 860?

Given the lineage of the cXXX series, I wouldn't be surprised by a rather trivial upgrade.  After all, they put a lot of effort into the c760 -> c860 "upgrade".

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Never Had A Pda, Looking At C3000 - Capabilities?

I've never owned a PDA, or a laptop, cell phone, pager, mp3 player, et cetera and so on (yes, I'm a deprived child, pity me!).  At any rate, I'm very interested in getting a C3000 and a couple accessories, and I've seen reviews refer to this little widget as almost a mini-laptop, so...

I'm not a C3000 owner, but you're questions are pretty general, so:

Can you replace the OS that comes preinstalled on the device?  Just like formatting a hard drive and installing what you want on there?  If so, would the installation have to fit into the 16MB flash memory, or how would that work?

The preinstalled OS & software is called a ROM.  Yes, you can replace it, but generally with another linux-based OS.  It kinda is and is not like working with a 'normal' computer.  You wouldn't be able to install 'what you want' unless what you want is one of the available linux options.  You can't put windows on it for example.

I saw one review that said you could uninstall any software you installed, which led me to believe you can't uninstall software that comes preinstalled on the device... is that right?

You can change the preinstalled software by using a different ROM, but once installed you can't change it without again replacing the ROM.

Can I install any piece of software I want onto this thing?  Treat it like a computer, get a USB CD drive and install whatever I want that doesn't exceed the system specs?

Theoretically, sure.  Practically, no.  You can compile much Open Source software for it, but it is not like just plugging in a cd drive and letting it rip.

I'm guessing you plug it into its docking bay to recharge the battery, but is there an AC adapter type hookup so you can just run the thing off an electrical outlet?

If I don't have wifi in my house, am I screwed, or is there any accessory which lets you hook up to any regular hub and get out through my home network?

Yes, you can get cf cards which work with a wired network instead of wifi.

For those of you who have one and would know, how comfortable is the keyboard for extended periods of time?  Would you still recommend a USB keyboard?

I like the keyboard on my c760, but for real word processing you should get an external keyboard.  I've got a pockettop ir keyboard that I like.  I don't know if you can use usb keyboards.

Yep, I'm having audio trouble on my c760. Mine is out in both modes, however sometimes it will work if partially swiveled and/or pinched above the '9' key.

Definately hardware in my case.

As I mention in this thread, my c760 no longer plays sound and I can't seem to find a way to get it fixed.  I'm bummed because otherwise the zaurus is fine, no other problems (it's been this way for awhile).

Anyway, I've decided to bite the bullet and just replace it, however I am determined to not let this great machine go to waste, so I'm looking to sell it to subsidize it's replacement.

As I mentioned, the audio doesn't play and there is a bit of wear on the front corners, but it is otherwise in great shape.  As I will be buying a new model, I am keeping all my accessories, but it will include the original box, manuals, and sync and charge cables.

I'm not really sure what a fair asking price would be.  If you are interested, you can message me or email d.maddock1 AT gmail DOT com.

Any idea what's causing these blue lines over the slideshow view? Is there any way to fix it? I'd love to use this as my primary photo viewing and organization app on the Z.

It might be related to model.  I have a c760 and I'm not seeing any blue lines while in slideshow.

Are you using it on a 6000 as your sig suggests?
