Awesome case!

I have been using this case from day one. My boyfriend brought it back from Japan for me, PDAIR Case. I paid $43.00 for it. Look around you might find it cheaper. I think I saw it at shopbrando for less.

I agree about the thickness of the case. I removed the insert since I do not leave my screen in PDA mode when closing the case. This makes the case a lot more confortable and not as thick.

The quality of the case is great. It does not look cheap by any means.

Yes, I have tried ifconfig and it shows the wlan0 active:
if I do ifup wlan0 - I get an error message
I have also tried ifconfig wlan0 up and ifconfig wlan0
with no luck.

Anything else I can do?

X/Qt / Debian On Slc3000 With Cacko3kb1

I am unable to connect using my wireless card, connected and running under qtopia.

I have copied and modified the resolv.conf file wiht my correct DNS numbers.

I have removed and reinstalled about four times. The first time the internet worked but I had other error messages. The last 3 times, I cannot get the internet to work.

During the install process I have gotten some error messages that no matter what I do I cannot resolve. Could someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

so as per above everything goes well except:
# cd /hdd3/debroot
# pwd > /etc/debroot
# chown -R root:root etc
# chown -R root:root var
# chown -R root:root home

when I do chown -R root:root etc
and          chown -R root:root var
I get a long list of files/directories with the message at the end: no such file or directory.

Sometimes one of them will work, not printing the error message, sometimes the other. I have never been able to get both of them to work.
I realized that if I spaced pwd>/etc/debroot etc, differently, I was able to get one of them to work.

Are these two issues why I cannot connect on line? What do these commands do?
Does anyone know how I can resolve this?

Hello,

I know that there are already some x/qt debian topics on this forum. I have read through them but still have some issues. I decided to start this new topic in hopes that a more experienced Z user could help me through them. I am very new to Linux and Z, and no matter how much I read up on both - I can never learn fast enough.

So I installed X/Qt with Debian Script per meanie's site. Formatted my HDD3 to use a loopback and created a swapfile.

then to install I did this:

# zcat zaurus-debian-big-v0.17.tgz | tar xvf - -C /hdd3/debroot
# cd /hdd3/debroot
# pwd > /etc/debroot
# chown -R root:root etc
# chown -R root:root var
# chown -R root:root home
# mkdir -p mnt/card
# mkdir -p mnt/cf
# cp /etc/hosts etc
# cp /etc/resolv.conf etc
# vi startd
   
#!/bin/sh
### startup commands ###
export DISPLAY=0:0
/usr/bin/icewm-session
### shutdown commands
umount /mnt/card 2>/dev/null
umount /mnt/cf 2>/dev/null
umount /proc
   
# chmod 755 startd
# cd home
# ln -s ../root root
# mkdir zaurus
# cd ..
# cp -R INSTALL.d/debroot/root/.icewm home/zaurus
# cp INSTALL.d/debroot/usr/local/bin/* usr/local/bin
# cp INSTALL.d/native/bin/* /usr/local/bin
# cp INSTALL.d/native/debroot.conf /etc
# rm -r INSTALL.d

then this, because I could not get sudo to behave with cacko3KB1:

# su
# cp /home/zaurus/.xinitrc /home/root
# chown root:root /home/root/.xinitrc
# cd /hdd3/debroot/home
# cp -R zaurus/.icewm root
# cd /hdd3/debroot
# su -
# xlauncher debian

So here are the problems I am having after the installation....

Could someone help me connect my wireless card with debian?

I have the same problem as ArchiMark. I cannot get connected. I edited resolv.conf with : nameserver (then my dns numbers).

It still does not work?

I am running cacko 3kb1, C3000, x/qt debian on hdd3 with loop and swap, per meanie's site, asus wireless card.

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Scratches On 3000/1000 After Time Has Passed

I agree... the white case is flawless, and the screen with protector too. I clean my z twice a week from screen, to keyboard, to all around case with iclean solution and cloth that I bought at the apple store.

The chrome part has some scratches, especially on one side. It seems that when I rotate my screen to pda mode and back... it becomes somewhat uneven, the left side scratches the chrome. I have to adjust it a bit. Is this a design flaw? or normal wear and tear?

Other than that it is as good as new.

Axel,

Getting the X/QT Debian Icons does not necessarily mean the installation was successful.

I tried many different things to get it working. First off install all the packages that X/QT calls for on meanie's site. Installing these correct packages in the order specified will help get the process under way.

Meanie's site says that you can install the debian script instead of the start-up script and skip all the manual configurations. I tried to do it without it, then with it , then together, then without it, then together, then do the configurations, then without them...... and on ... and on...

The last time it worked. I installed everything including the start-up script, then I did the manual configurations, created the loop, swap, installed debian, then i installed debian script, then I did su - xlauncher debian. Then I clicked on the debian icon. Got a white screen, takes a while, you have to be patient the first time. Then I hit the menu button, set it for full screen... then the window manager comes up - it is hiding behind the qtopia icons unless you hit full screen you will not see it.

However, I might have made a mistake in the installation. Everything worked but I could not install mozilla-firefox or mozilla-thunderbird.. SO I decided to reboot and restore a back up. and that is as far as I got. Then came HDD! Error!

I will try again this weekend and repost my results. I am so new at this it hurts!
However, It is awesome to see debian running and be able to switch back to qtopia.

Dynamism is awesome. They offer 1 year warranty ship back to Japan if they cannot fix your problem, offer free tech support. The price is rather high, you might try to negotiate a better deal, I did.

Did you succeed in installing debian? Did it work before you had these problems.

I would get this problem when Debian did not install correctly, so i would just reset and then restore a back up, then try to install again. It took me a week of playing around with it until it finally worked. Then I broke my Z but that is another story. Read HDD1 ERROR!
