Zaurus - pdaXrom / Fluxbox On Pdaxii13 Or Pdaxrom Beta3

the only thing missing really is the config files

That's not really a problem.  I have my .fluxbox files backed up.  In fact that's the reason I like fluxbox.  I've been using it for awhile, and I've grown quite accustomed to doing things that way.  Probably what keeps me from migrating to FVWM.

fluxbox is in the beta1 feed, I only tried the xqt version which worked fine,

I'll try the beta1 and X/QT packages, but I'm a little skeptical.   I suppose I'd been trying the beta3 packages and pre-beta1 packages.   This runs very slow on the standard beta3 for me also.  Takes about 5-10 minutes to load on a 3200 whereas it loads in 30sec or less on a 6000.

the xsesssion selector just relinks fbsession to .xinitrc. it assumes you already have the correct session files, ie for openbox mbsession, for fluxbox fbsession, for icewm ice-session and for xfce xfce-session

I'm still a little confused about how to do this manually, and I didn't really give more than a perfunctory look at the "xsessions" ipk.  I think I might be able to figure it out from here...

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Clipboard Applet For Pdaxrom?

I've actually had a problem like this with dillo, and also with SciTE... do you think this could be the cause?  Perhaps these programs have blocked the clipboard interface somehow.  Can anyone second that?

[edit: (Feb11) ]

Here's a more clear explanation of what I'm talking about:

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Fluxbox On Pdaxii13 Or Pdaxrom Beta3
« on: February 10, 2007, 06:02:48 pm »
I've tried a number of different versions of fluxbox including compiling the cvs version; albeit,  I did this with gcc 3.4.5 instead of gcc 3.4.6.

The only one that's actually loaded at all seems to be "fluxbox_0.9.10_armv5tel"

from http://zaurus.spy.org/feeds/cacko/pdaXrom/unstable/

It took maybe five to ten minutes to load, and it apparently won't load again.

I'm trying to run this on pdaxii13 build 5.3 for akita.   I've also tried using the "xsessions" program announced at the bottom of this page:

http://www.tyrannozaurus.com/?q=node/210

but that hasn't helped me so far.

Any ideas?  Does anybody use this?  Any help would be appreciated.

[span style=\'font-size:14pt;line-height:100%\']How to Use the Xfce4-panel clipboard in pdaxii13[/span]

Install xfce4-panel from http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distri.../contrib/Chero/

Here's a direct link to the ipkg  (link)

It might have some dependencies, so be sure to install those too.

When it's done installing, run "xfce4-panel &" from a terminal.

You'll have to play around with it a little, but there's also a clip-board plug in there.

If you want to, you can change the file "/home/root/.xinitrc"

[span style=\'font-size:14pt;line-height:100%\']How to Use a Different Panel When Starting X-windows[/span]
* Backup "/home/root/.xinitrc" to /home/root/,xinitrc.matchbox. just in case anything goes wrong.

* Open "/home/root/.xinitrc" in your favorite text editor.

Change the line that starts
Code: [Select]
eval "matchbox-panel
to
Code: [Select]
eval "xfce4-panel

This will run xfce4-panel on startup instead of matchbox-panel.

hope this helps.  I agree a lot of things are missing in matchbox.

[edit:]  You don't need to install the entire xfce4 package, just the panel and some libraries.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxii-akita5.3 Pdaxii13-config On Desktop
« on: February 10, 2007, 01:44:28 pm »
I'd like to use this file to make different window manager configurations.  Right now, I'm running xfce4-panel instead of matchbox-panel and xfce4-desktop instead of ROX, but I had to change the xinitrc file to make this happen.

I'm not really sure what's going on in the /etc/rc.d/ scripts but I'm trying kinda hard to find out. I think this file (/home/root/Choices/pdaxii13.conf) should offer more configuration, but I don't quite understand where it's being called from.

I'm basically trying to run fluxbox instead of openbox, but this doesn't seem to work very well on 3200 for me at all in either pdaxii13 or the standard pdaxrom beta3.   I even went so far as to recompile the source, but no improvement yet.

For the record, fluxbox runs great on my 6000 (tosa) with pdaxrom beta1.  I could bootup straight into flux in about 30 seconds, whereas on the 3200 beta3 distributions, it takes maybe 5+ minutes, yet  openbox loads up right away... or.. at least a lot faster.

I was pondering the idea of putting together a donation for Guylhem, to show our concern for him, and help him back on his feet or to get a working zaurus up again (maybe someone has a 2nd zaurus they don't want and we could all chip-in with some cash to buy it for G?)

Sounds like a good idea to me... can you put this together?

I installed xorg-bin and xorg-lib on SD.
# startx
xauth:  creating new authority file /home/root/.serverauth.9150
X: error while loading shared libraries: libfontcache.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
Is fontcache miss in ipk?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=146334\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I get the same error.

Has anyone else tried this in awhile?  Do you think this could resolve some of the font problems in xterm for beta3?

I'd like to try building this if possible.  Gonna look into that.

[EDIT:] This seems like a really time consuming process to build.  I guess it's not really that important to me right now.

Octave
 [/span]

(link above) is the "mostly MATLAB-compatible high-level language" for numerical computation and modelling.

Couldn't find a version that worked well, (or even at all lately.)  Older distributions for the arm4 processor can be found here.   I compiled these binaries in the same manner, but with the newer compilers and optimizations.
i.e. CFLAGS="-O2 -mcpu=xscale" etc.

Tested in beta1.1.0 on an SL-6000.

[span style=\'font-size:14pt;line-height:100%\']
Versions:
 [/span]
(link above)

2.9.9 is the "development" distribution (more complete).  Installs to approximately 37MB.
2.1.73 is the "testing" distribution (seems to be a little faster) Installs to approximately 80MB.
2.0.17 is the "stable" and obsolete version (not included  here)

Notes:

1.) For now, you may need to do go to the location of installation
Code: [Select]
cd  (CF, CARD, ETC) /usr/local/bin
and make the binaries executable, since they might not be executable by default.
Code: [Select]
chmod +x octave-2.1.73
or
Code: [Select]
chmod +x octave-2.9.9

2.) If you're only installing one version, you'll probably want to symlink the version name to just "octave" since it doesn't do so by default.

Code: [Select]
ln -s /usr/local/bin/octave-2.9.9 /usr/local/bin/octave

3.) I'll post the  octave-forge packages here when I get around to making it into an ipk.

Sorry if this is a repeated package, hope it's useful.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / R For Pdaxrom?
« on: January 28, 2007, 02:16:41 pm »
I found out  that G77 is in the x86 cross compiler. (3.4.5) available in the feed directory at ibliblio (link) I'm currently testing a local build of octave-2.1.73 with this.  If it seems useable, I'll post it in the new packages thread.    I'll try compiling R soon.  Still trying to rebuild a native sdk with G77, but it's slow progress.

I'm curious about "-msoftfloat"

While trying to recompile GCC3.4.5 (to include the currently missing fortran support in  g77) using GCC3.4.5, the build is  currently failing on missing FPA.  Any suggestions?

I used the g77 version in the native version (native sdk kit) about a year ago.

Which version of the native sdk was this?  Is it still available?  I've been trying to rebuild gcc3.4.5, but I'm having lots of problems doing so.

« on: January 23, 2007, 08:14:30 pm »
Some Questions:

1.) does meanie's image include a fortran compiler? (g77 or gfortran?)
2.) this should work for SL6000  equally well for 3xxx ?
3.) any advice on rebuilding the gcc suite?  (./configure notes, flags, etc)
(I'm currently trying to rebuild  3.4.5  with the old 3.4.5 zgcc image and I've never tried building gcc before)

This requires F77 or F2C to compile ... any idea from where to get them?

I compiled "F2C" from http://www.netlib.org/f2c/.  It's pretty awkward to use (and build), but it seems to work.

G77 should be a reasonable replacement for F77.  There's supposedly a version bundled with the cross-sdk, but I can't figure out how to use it yet.  I've tried to cross-compile the whole GCC suite (which would include G77 by default,) but it seems to fail upon certain assembly routines.

I ran out of memory today, but I'll try again with F2C.
