User Request for Applications / Palm Emulator On Zaurus 5500
« on: July 31, 2005, 09:49:27 am »
Hi there,

I tried installing QPilot and QPose on the Z5500, but when I run either one, it just shows hour glass and then stops without error. Anyone had success with them? Thanks!

User Request for Applications / Onboard Plucker distiller...
« on: July 31, 2005, 09:13:04 am »
TimW and all,

I am very late in the game, but hopefully someone is still on this and can give advice.

Can you point me to the feed for downloading Python tools and other ipkg needed to run the distiller onboard a Zaurus 5500, with 3.10 SHARP rom image? Thanks!

If this works out, then I can use the Zaurus without touching a PC (WindowsXP! grrr) altogether ...  ok, I can install linux as well, but I don't own the common PC ... so ...

Hi!

For 30 Euro, I could build batteries with 1800mAh, too.
And the pins are not copper anymore, but gold / silver.

Hi Ludwig,

Wonder how long the 1800mAh batts last for the SL5500? So its 30Euro + 5Euro shipping to US too? hmmm ... how much is that in USD?

Thanks!

SIMpad forum / Serial Keyboard For Simpad

Tom61, thanks for the info and tip!

btw, would that mean I need a relevant irda driver on the SL4 or does it mean I can use other apps via the serial port without knowing that it is really ending with an irda port?

5x00 Hardware / Converting Z To Use Std Digital Camera Battery
« on: July 23, 2005, 09:41:23 pm »
As far as li-ion charging is concerned, putting in a larger cell will just mean proportionately longer charging time.  The charging circuit will only stop when the cell voltage reach around 4.1 or something.

You can think of it using buckets of water as an analogy. The voltage is the height of the buckets (batteries). The volume of the buckets is the capacity of the battery. So if the water (charging current) filling the buckets up is constant, it will just take longer to charge up.

Some older ni-cad chargers may use a timer, which is why they needed to discharge completely and then charge up. Otherwise, the water will overfill, ie the battery will explode.

Hope it makes sense.

SIMpad forum / Serial Keyboard For Simpad

ah I see ... hmmm ... how about any of the pda keyboards? They do use serial protocol too? Then maybe an adapter cable can convert such a keyboard for use with the SL4? Just need to write a driver for it.

SIMpad forum / Serial Keyboard For Simpad
« on: July 21, 2005, 12:14:15 pm »
Hi there,

I am thinking of using a ps2 FEMALE <-> 9DIN MALE adapter to convert a ps2 keyboard so that it can plug directly to the luxemberg cable with its 9DIN FEMALE plug.

For now, I am going to write a simple app to listen on the comm port for wince *gasp*. This should give me the raw keyboard scan codes coming in from the keyboard which I will use to send key strokes to the wince system.

Of cos, if there is a ready solution, it would be great too! Short of getting a $50+ iBiz keyboard, I hope this will work.

I know you can use the belkin ir keyboard as well, but my ir on the SL4 is dead (I think) and I believe repairing it could be more expensive than the iBiz keyboard.

Any ideas or comments appreciated!

The adapter is found here ...

SIMpad forum / Irda Repair For Sl4
« on: July 15, 2005, 10:59:54 pm »
Hi all,

The IrDA on the SL4 is not working for the past few days. Is there any app I can use to test it to see if the controller is faulty or the IrDA LED itself is broken?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Niv, a couple of us gave you the steps depending on which image you wanted to use.

If you are intending to try the old 0.8.0 or 0.8.1 images, you *will* need 2.5.3.

If you are simply flashing in the newer 0.9.0 or 0.9.1 images, you need to upload blupdater.img

I agree with this.  However I had forgotten this and put Familiar Opie 0.8.2 on top of blupdater.img and things seem ok.  I think I remember reading that blupdater.img is not compatible with Win CE images, but I don't recall it being incompatible with Linux versions below 0.9.

Oops ... I stand corrected. Its more like, for newer >= 0.9.0 images, you *will* need blupdater.img and not the other way round. Also, with 2.5.3 Siemens bootloader, you will be able to flash back to wince images. Else, you need to revert to the simpadSL4.rom old bootloader before flashing in the siemens images.

Can you verify why you did step 5? Step 5 is for restoring back to wince image.

I'm assuming you are referring to either simpad-SL.rom or simpad-CL.rom.
