Zaurus - pdaXrom / New C3200 Owner
« on: April 11, 2007, 03:37:27 pm »
Well, my conics.net C3200 just came in, I'm downloading pdaXii13 as we speak, and copying all my own little tweaks and configurations from my 860 to a SD card.  This will be my third Zaurus (the fist being a 5500 that ran OZ), I know enough to admit I know nothing about this model, and ask for advice and warnings.

My planned setup is to keep my 1 GB SD card and use the CF slot exclusively for wireless.  I think 7 gigs should be more than enough storage.  However, this is where the performance questions come up.  Should I install packages to internal flash, the internal drive, or SD?  It's a SanDisk Ultra II, if the Zaurus bus can actually utilize the increased speed.

Basically, for those of you short in attention span or patience: what should I install (and how/where), what should I avoid doing, and what do I need to know about the 3200?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Quick Kismet Question
« on: December 02, 2006, 11:24:45 pm »
I'm running Beta 1 on my C860 with a Socket low power Wifi card, it works fine for networking but I can't seem to get Kismet working.  The problem is kismet no longer has a list of sources in the config file like it did last time I set it up.

Anyone have the list, or know the source name for a symbol card?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Uboot Fails To Install

I had the same problem, but when I manually reset it it booted up just fine. Now of course I can't even get that far .

Yeah, it wouldn't boot for me after manually shutting it down.  The power indicator wouldn't even turn on when plugged in.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Uboot Fails To Install
« on: November 21, 2006, 04:42:51 pm »
Well, I did a NAND erase, installed the original Japanese again and then tried to install uboot as described for the first time install.  Still locks up on "rebooting the system," I think I'll just go back to Beta2, although I was really hoping I could stay up to date.

Anyone know of any work arounds, etc?

How can I check for bad blocks in NAND?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Uboot Fails To Install
« on: November 20, 2006, 08:47:24 pm »
I've tried several times and still no success.  The uboot I'm trying to use is this one from the front page.

The contents of my CF card before trying are as follows:
Code: [Select]
u-boot.bin
updater.pro
updater.sh
autoboot.sh
emergenc.img

I have a C-860, I've tried installing uboot from both a 128 CF card and a 64mb SD card.  In every case the installer stops at "Rebooting the system" and I have to unplug it and remove the battery to turn it off.

EDIT: Both cards have been completely empty and freshly formatted before placing the install files on them.

I've tried installing uboot several times now, and I can't figure out what's going wrong.

I bring up the normal japanese service menu (battery unlock, ok, lock, on), update from my 128 mb CF card.  The japenese boot menu pops up, the screen fills with "Writing [hex address], then freezes on "Rebooting the system..."

I've tried waiting various amounts of time, and it never leaves the screen.  I pull the power and battery, and the Z is bricked.  I have to restore the NAND from a backup.

Any insight?

I've already had to restore the NAND to the original a few times (two restores, three failed uboot installs now, I believe).  My question is not how to undo the damage, but how to properly install uboot.

Is it really just a matter of trying enough times?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / 860 Bricked By Uboot?

Fn+D+M *will* work, flashing cannot overwrite it as it is in P2ROM.

Take the battery out and unplug the AC. Hold down Fn+D+M, insert the AC, then KEEP HOLDING Fn+D+M. It will take anywhere from 5-20 seconds before anything happens, then it will boot into the diag menu. Put the battery back and lock it in.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=143690\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I thought the previous poster meant Fn+D+M and power on.  That worked, but now should I restore an original Japanese NAND, or...?

Is it uboot that's preventing the battery from charging and the device from booting?

Edit: Update, I've flashed on an english 860 NAND, the power light is on, and I'm letting it charge up.  After this I'll install one of my older pdaXrom versions to make sure everything is okay.  Any idea what I did wrong with the uboot flash?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / 860 Bricked By Uboot?
« on: October 10, 2006, 07:55:09 pm »
Fn+D+M did nothing.  The power light isn't even on when it's plugged in.

To clarify:

With the a battery in, the power light will not come on when it's plugged in.

With no battery in, the power light will blink on at first, then turn off.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / 860 Bricked By Uboot?

I've been running pdaXrom on my 860 since I got it, and I absolutely love this distro.  That being said, after running on an older version for a while I finally decided to upgrade.

I put uboot on a 128mb CF card, went through the install, and then my 860 wouldn't shut down properly.  It just locked up at "The system is powered off" with the backlight somewhat off.  I pulled the AC and battery out, it booted into uboot's emergency mode.  After I tried the reboot command it locked on shut down again, and I pulled the AC and battery again.

Now my 860 won't power on, the power light won't even turn on with the AC in.  I know the cord is working (I tried it on my old 5500), and I have no reason to believe the batteries have suddenly gone bad.  If I remove the battery and plug in AC power, the light will blink on, then off again.

D+M power on doesn't seem to work, nor does OK + power on.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Sound Driver Issues?
« on: February 27, 2006, 02:58:56 am »
I've been using pdaXrom since RC5, and I really love it.  However, it seems like each and every RC has some very strange sound dirver bugs, with the new beta being the worst off.

I use my C860 for surfing the web, checking my email, etc.  It performs all of these tasks extremely well for such a small device.  However, when I try to use it as an mp3 player the same problem always comes up.

I open XMMS, set the screen blanker applet to disable suspend, blank the screen and close the clamshell.  As soon as two minutes later, the device will freeze.  It normally takes a few presses of the power button to get it back on. (power button, tap the screen, repeat)  At which point I recieve an error message from XMMS, and can't play any music until I reboot the device (not just X).

Has anyone else had this problem?  Have I been making some silly mistake this entire time?

Just to be clear, I'm using a C860 with beta RC1,  256 SD card and a 512 SanDisk CF.
