6000 - Tosa / Digitizer Accuracy/fluctuation, Is It Normal?
« on: August 19, 2005, 06:56:15 pm »
Hi,

I finally took the plunge, and picked up a up a 6000.  I'm noticing that
when running X, if I'm holding the stylus perfectly still on the screen,
the cursor is fluctuating a pixel or two in each direction continuously.

Is this normal?  This unit has a textured abrasion on the corner, sort of what
I would expect from a drop on a driveway.

Anyway, I'd be curious if others see windows shake when dragging them and
keeping the stylus steady.

Thanks,  John

For Sale / Wanted / Wanted: Older Socket Cf Wifi Card (wl6000-320)
« on: August 18, 2005, 08:04:08 pm »
Hi,

I have a socket low power CF WIFI card, that I am not using any more, only
because it seems that after I use it to connect, everything is OK for a minute
or so, then it really slows down, pings start pausing, then it stops working.

I use a linksys now.  Anyway, I do not see that model number on the back, but
there are some numbers:

8510-00186 B
0208000149

FCC ID H9PLA4137P
© 2002 made in Taiwan

I saw what looks like the same card ( for $70 ?) at the site that someone posted the recent
linksys WCF12 for $33 in "Great buys or Deals"

I never persued trying better drivers, but was surprised it started/stopped working on
Sharp/pdaXrom/OpenZaurus.

What is so special about this card, the power requirements?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / /etc/terminfo for OZ 3.5.1
« on: August 14, 2005, 10:05:20 pm »
Hi,

On an SL5500, with a fresh flash of opie 3.5.3, it seems that installing
ncurses-terminfo works OK, but it hangs during the ipkg-link add.  I
tried the entire procedure twice, with the exact same results.

I was following the steps exactly as (well) documented here:

   http://www.minstrel.org.uk/papers/zaurus/

I control-C'ed out of the hang, but I'm not sure why this happens, and
would like to be able understand what is going on.  I manually linked the
terminfo directory to point to ram where I have installed things, but I'm
not sure this is a valid workaround.  I notice funny characters in kismet
on the corner of panels.  Maybe this is normal, or maybe my terminfo
is broken.

Anyone know why the ipkg-link fails on ncurses-terminfo?

Sharp ROMs / Kismet And The Sharp 3.13 Rom
« on: August 12, 2005, 07:58:28 pm »
Hi,

I am in the same boat, kismet runs, but does not ever show any
networks, packets, etc.

I have a Linksys WCF12 which I use, and have been trying prism2
in the kismet.conf file.

I can't seem to find any end-to-end instructions, for getting it
up and running on any of the ROMs.  There are also 2
versions of kismet at the site posted above (labeled get
kismet and the GUI here).

In any case, some more detailed instructions (or pointers to them)
would be very helpful.  I also have a low power Socket WIFI card,
but although it connects to access points OK under all ROMS, after
a minute or so it always stops working.  So, I assume its best
to use my Linksys to try to get kismet to function.

Never mind, when actually trying to use mec, I get:

mec: relocation error: mec: undefined symbol: __modsi3

Oh well..       John

It seems the mec and nec from here work on my SL-5500 with pdaXrom.

I had to soft link libncurses.so.5 to .4

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Recommended Wired and Wireless CF cards?

Note that there are 2 models of the Socket Wifi card. The old one works with the spectrum drivers, but the newer models don't work out of the box. These are based on the Agere chipset.

Hi,

I have a socket low power WIFI card dated 2002, FCCID H9PLA4137P...

Would this be the "old one"?  With pdaXrom and the sharp ROM it will
connect, but get flaky after a few minutes.  I notice that an ssh session
into the Z will stop responsing if left idle for a few minutes.

I have no troubles with my Linksys WCF12 and have been using that,
but since I have 2 SL-5500 devices, I would like to figure out how to get
the socket one to work solidly.

Any advice is appreciated!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxrom For 5500?

Hi there! So did you manage to find the ipkgs to install to get things like GUI system tools running?

Well, some of them.  In order to get a specific ESSID and WEP for a
WIFI connection, I needed to be able to get network.py to run.

I believe there were other deps, I have notes at home.  But I believe
there was a "*unixadmin*" ipk, and lanconfig, and matchbox-pdaXrom
which supplied another missing file.

It was not my goal to install the matchbox WM, and "panel", as I wish
to use openbox, and potentially something else in the future.

I looked though the "Filelist" and "Packages" in the feed, to try to
determine what ipks I needed to install.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxrom For 5500?
« on: August 03, 2005, 04:34:07 pm »
Does anyone have a program (like xloadimage) for the SL-5500 that
allows the user to place an image in the root window?  I currently
use the openbox WM.

To date, I have not tried installing anything outside of the feed that
was published near the start of this thread.  I'm confused as to what
(if anything) from other feeds would run OK on the 5500-pdaXrom.

I have managed to natively compile and link some example
GTK+ programs which is amazing by the way.  I ran into some linking
issues with Motif and (straight) X11 programs, which I can provide
more detail on when I get home.

I did not have xmms-mad installed, which was preventing
xmms from being able to decode the .mp3 files.  In any
case all is well with xmms now!

try : # network.py

Hi,

I was able to install "network.py", and it allowed me to get a connection
at work today.  I had to install lanconfig, python-unixadmin, and
matchbox-pdaxrom to get it to function.

Unfortunately I don't know how to properly shutdown the network,
so I can switch networks (or remove card) without a reboot.  I got LINUX
crashes when I tried yesterday.  I believe I was executing "ifconfig eth0 down",
"cardctl suspend 0", "cardctl eject 0".

I would also like to know how to properly set (all) the required configuration
variables via the command line, but for now I'm content.

Many thanks again,   John

Darn, I installed xmms, but it will not load files into the playlist.
The files are on SD, I hope that is supported!

Even if I specify the file on the command line, it brings up the
playlist (add) window.

Perhaps the GUI errors below are related, but I doubt it.

Code: [Select]
# xmms a.mp3

Gdk-WARNING **: Missing charsets in FontSet creation

Gdk-WARNING **:     ISO8859-1

** WARNING **: Failed to open font: "-adobe-helvetica-bold-r-*-*-10-*".

Zaurus - pdaXrom / 2 basic getting started questions
« on: July 26, 2005, 02:32:36 pm »
Hi,

I have seen comments like:

Use the "LANConfig" program found in the "System Tools" folder

I am running the new SL-5500 version of the pdaXrom, and don't
see anything like "system tools" in the feed to install.

What is the name of the package that has these system tools?

I need to get a WIFI connection here at work, using my linksys WCF-12.
I need to specify the ESSID, but all attempts have failed at trying to use
iwconfig to configure the card.

At home, I (temporarily) enabled ESSID broadcast, and turned off WEP
allowing the "default" settings to allow a WIFI connection.  But here at
work, there are many WIFI networks, and I must specify the ESSID.

I'm trying to use a (Redhat) linux box as a guide, but I don't see the
equivalent of the ifcfg-wlan0 file anywhere under pdaXrom.

Help!

Thanks for any info,  John
