the typed alphabetic letters are supposed to be caught by the input bar at the bottom of screen, but actually all typed letters entered the active field of address book directly as if there was no Asian input method. The result of this problem is that I cannot use any Asian characters in address book!

What input method are you using? Sharp's built-in Japanese input method works fine with kapi 2.1.1, for me at least.

- ashikase
- anpachi, gifu, japan
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=76350\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I am using murphytalk.pinyin Chinese input method. And I am using TRIsoft's backup image (http://www.trisoft.de/download/C3000-2005-03-18-12-30.zip). The point is that the same input method works fine for the kopi and ompi, but not for kapi, so I think it's the problem of kapi, not the input method, right?

Software / Asian Language Input Bug In Addressbook

Please ignore this message 'coz it should not be a new topic thread. I made this by mistake. I already put this thread under corresponding main thread. SysAdmin may delete this thread. I don't know how to delete it myself. Thanks!

Zautrix, I downloaded and installed kdepim 2.1.1 on my C3000 (SharpROM), everything was fine until I tried to type in chinese or japanese characters into the address book, the problem is that: the typed alphabetic letters are supposed to be caught by the input bar at the bottom of screen, but actually all typed letters entered the active field of address book directly as if there was no Asian input method. The result of this problem is that I cannot use any Asian characters in address book! But this problem does NOT exist in the Email program and the Organizer program. I CAN use Asian characters in both programs without any problems.

So the conclusion is that this problem must reflect a BUG in the AddressBook program. I remember I can type in Asian characters in the AddressBook of  earlier version of KDEPIM.

Please fix this bug and then I can start using KDEPIM from now on. Thanks a lot!

Software / Kino2 0.4.2 Is Out

As soon as I get what the keycode for that button is.

There is no way for me to detect if lid is open or closed, at least on my C750. The same key code comes with lid close and open events.

I think you can detect the launch and operation of kino2 by remote conotrol earphone, right? If so, it is most likely that user uses remote control to control kino2 to listen to music, and it's safe to turn LCD off as soon as kino2 starts.

Did you select proper locale for MP3 tags in kino2 preferences?

I set both locales to UTF-8, this is why I can see each asian character is displayed as a square, which means the encoding is correct. The only thing is to allow user to select the correct asian fonts, like kdepim/pi does. In kdepim/pi, after locale is set to utf-8, if the display fonts are the default japanese fonts, many asian characters are displayed as square. After selecting the right fonts, the display becomes correct.

Yes, just click the + button while the folder is selected.  However, this doesn't work with a directory depth of greater than one, which would be nice.  My music is stored Artist/Album/Songs, so if i want to add all of one artist to playlist it requires a directory traverse.  Not a big deal, though.
Ah yeah, that's a bug, really. I never noticed because I just rsync a flat directory on my desktop where I just copy a memory card's worth of music.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=69095\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

That sounds like a feature request.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=69150\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Yes, it is a feature request! And I have another feature REQUEST:

I bought my C3000 with the remote control earphone. It is nicely integrated with the Sharp's default music player: the functions of all buttons are supported by the music player and the power management works greatly too. However the default play cannot play OGG file which is my favorite because even VBR-encoded MP3 is still not as compact as OGG with the same sound quality.

I thoroughly tested the music play function of kino2 and found out the following problem:

1) The remote control earphone CE-RH2 has a MUTE function supported by its left wheel: scrolling this wheel up and down controls music volume and pressing this wheel switch MUTE status. Kino2 does not support the MUTE function from remote control yet.

2) There is an option in Kino2's preference dialog which can turn off LCD display when playing music. This is espeically useful when C3000 is used as a portable music player with its lid is closed. But if music play stopps, LCD display is turned on even when the lid is closed. This is apparently what we don't want. I think Kino2 should be able to detect the status of the lid and decide that: a) if the lid is closed, never LCD display should never be turned on no matter music is being played or not;  If the lid is open, then the current feature of controlling LCD display makes sense: turn off display when starting playing music and turn on display when finishing playing music. I noticed that Sharp's default music player can take care of this point very well.

After above two issues are solved, I can completely swith to kino2 player and use my C3000 as  a portable music player  since it also supports a variety of music files, even FLAC, based on mplayer.

Another requested feature is the display of tag information of music file, such as MP3, OGG and FLAC. I guess right now kino2 uses some default widgets to display tag information, so it cannot display Asian characters all of them are displayed as empty squares. It would be very helpful to use UTF-8 encoding and let user select which fonts to use to display the playlist and the tag info. This is very much like what KDE-PIM/PI does. This method works well even on the not-fully-englishlized OS on my C3000.

Thanks a lot!

can people who managed to have it running on c3000 tell wich kernel they're using please ?
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I have it running on my c3000 running the sharp kernel with the v17g kernel updates from tetsu. I installed the mplayer with IWMMX, the C300 video driver and the Kino2 0.4.2 ipk with no issues.

Regards,

Hi, Kerensa,

I downloaded a kernel image from [a href=\"http://tetsu.homelinux.org/zaurus/kernel/v17g/]http://tetsu.homelinux.org/zaurus/kernel/v17g/[/url],
including zImage-v17g-C3000.bin, kernel-modules_v17g_arm.ipk, and updater.sh.c3000. Is it the kernel you are using now? Since I can't read japanese, could you tell me the steps to update the kernel on C3000? Thanks a lot!

C1000/3x00 General discussions / C3000 As An Usb Host?
« on: February 13, 2005, 08:40:19 pm »
Since Zaurus SL-C3000 comes with an USB interface, I am wondering if it is possible to use C3000 as an USB host? I mean if C3000 can be used as a computer with USB port to which other USB devices, such as USB pen drive, portable USB harddrive etc., can be connected? I checked out local electronic stores which only carry the same type of USB convert cable as the one coming with C3000. So I am think if a type of USB cable, which can convert the USB port on C3000 to a standard USB port on regular computer, really exit? If so, where is it? Thanks a lot!

Software / System Font Configuration
« on: February 09, 2005, 11:00:38 pm »
I am using C3000, but I think it is similar to other models. I know various font files are installed in /home/QtPalmtop/lib/fonts/. Then I copied some Asian fonts to that directory. Now I need to change the default font that the system is using to the fonts I installed. But I don't know where the system configuration file which specifies which font to use. Anyone know where it is? I appreciate any inputs! Thanks a lot!

My guess is that you probably need a Special Kernel on your C3000 for the optimised mplayer to work properly.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=66147\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I am using the default kernel shipped with C3000, it's Sharp's 2.4.20 kernel. You may be right, but I am wondering whether the testing platform of the author of the BVDD version of mplayer is different from the original Sharp's kernel, or the author used other customized kernel on C3000 to test his mplayer? It's better create a BVDD version of mplayer on the default kernel of C3000, such that average Z users can make use of it. So I would rather wait for a while till the solution is available. Thanks for your input, maslovsky!

Kino2 has been updated, please, download again and test.

http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/kino2/kino2_0.4.1_arm.ipk

Also, Agawa has updated mplayer version for C3000, which should fix problems crashing Zaurus. Give it a try too:

http://atty.jp/?plugin=attach&refer=Zaurus...0.1.0-1_arm.ipk

http://atty.jp/?plugin=attach&refer=Zaurus...1.0.1-1_arm.ipk

Alternative version with IWMMX disabled:

http://atty.jp/?plugin=attach&refer=Zaurus...1.0.1-1_arm.ipk
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=65940\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Report:

I tried both updated BVDD versions of mplayer, both of them still caused my C3000 crash when I  used the option: -vo bvdd. The only difference is that the one with IWMMX disabled can work normally with the option -vo fbdev while the other one does not work with any options (-vo bvdd caused crash and -vo fbdev caused "illegal instructions") It seems that playback using fbdev consumes lots of CPU power because I always get a warning message "Your system may be too slow", so it is important find a solution with graphical device supported on C3000. For now I'd better wait for a while before I can play movie files correctly.

The BVDD version of mplayer does not work on my C3000, I don't know why. If I use it to play a standard mpeg file without any parameters or with "-vo fbdev" parameter, it complains that "illegal instructions" and something like "the program is not compiled for this processor". If I add "-vo bvdd" parameter to play the movie file, at the first time running, after ouput some frame information, it becomes very very slow and no movie image is created. If I run the program again, my machine is crashed by it! This crash can be repeated every time! It means that there is still some problems with the bvdd.o driver. Can anyone report this problem to the author of bvdd driver?

Therefore when I launched kino2 to play a movie file, it can open the file but after I pressed the play button, nothing happened.

However I can use the w100 version or the MIT version of mplayer with the option "-vo fbdev" to play movie files without problem, so I am wondering if kino2 can use the w100 version with "fbdev" option to play movies on C3000 model?

OK, try this new kino2 package:

http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/kino2/kino2_0.4.1_arm.ipk

Note that mplayer is now a separate package, so make sure to install one of the following:

For C3000:

http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/kino2/mpla...1.0.0-1_arm.ipk
http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/kino2/bvdd_0.1.0-1_arm.ipk

For 5600, 6000 and C7x0/860:

http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/kino2/mpla...1.0.0-1_arm.ipk

The w100 package includes latest built from anrp, so VBR MP3 files should play properly.

Kino2 uses ATI w100 driver for C7x0/860 and defaut fbdev for 5600 and 6000 models. For C3000 bvdd driver is selected.

I've updated layout a bit, so kino2 GUI should look better on 5600, but will probably still have problems.

Feedback is welcome...

On my C3000,

bash-2.05$ cat /proc/deviceinfo/product
SL-C3000

And also the layout of kino2 at both portrait and landscap is correct on my Z.

Awesome work! Your mplayer works very smoothly on my Zaurus SL-C3000!!!

And the bvdd version of mplayer, said to be optmized for C3000, actually crashed my C3000,    I don't why.

God, it's scary! I downloaded the bvdd version of mplayer and tried it on my C3000. Not only it cannot play the movie files which can be played by that MIT version, but also it crashed my C3000, the screen gradually whited out and the machine stopped responding. I had to hard reset it. Scary!

Quote from: maslovsky,Feb 3 2005, 04:10 AM
For C3000 it's best to use special version of mplayer for that device. Install these two packages:

http://atty.jp/?plugin=attach&refer=Zaurus...1.0.0-1_arm.ipk
http://atty.jp/?plugin=attach&refer=Zaurus...0.1.0-1_arm.ipk

Then reboot your zaurus.

After Zaurus boot, execute the folowingas root:

Code: [Select]
chmod a+s /opt/QtPalmtop/bin/mplayer
Launch mplayer using -vo bvdd parameter instead of -vo w100 or -vo fbdev

Quote from: maslovsky,Feb 1 2005, 04:52 PM
OK, how did you launch mplayer, with which parameters?
Did you try updated kino2 binary? Does it run?

No, all codecs are built into mplayer, kino2 is only a GUI fontend. You can contact mplayer maintainers and ask them to add those codecs.
