Software / Kino 0.4.1
« on: February 02, 2005, 05:30:19 pm »
I launched mplayer from the Terminal on my C3000 and I didn't use any parameters, I just typed:

mplayer-static-softvfp-ipp-nofastmath-2  xxx.mpg/avi

and it works! The only problem is that there no window frame around the movie area, such that I cannot move it. And the movie area is a rectangle at the upper left corner.

I will post some outputs of kino2 you want when I get back home.

Quote
OK, how did you launch mplayer, with which parameters?
Did you try updated kino2 binary? Does it run?

No, all codecs are built into mplayer, kino2 is only a GUI fontend. You can contact mplayer maintainers and ask them to add those codecs.

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Where Is The Microphone On C3000?
« on: February 02, 2005, 05:11:46 pm »
Yes, Sharp is so dumb on this issue! I have to find an earphone set for cell phone to try my Z.

And before I made my decision to buy Z3000, I compared it with Dell X50, and I sensed their differences. My major concern of X50 is its OS and of course MS Windows needs faster processor to match up Linux performance on the same hardware. I am a 10-year+ user of Linux and Windows and I know this point very well. The major drawback of Z3000 is its lack of built-in network functionality.

Quote
Yep, the C3000 doesn't include a mic!  Dumb huh?

You have to use something like this which is sold as suitable for C3000:

little mic

but then you can't do a quick playback without removing it.  Maybe better to build your own mic + right earphone or use something from a mobile phone.

I tried the recorder software with an old Sony walkman mic and it worked ok.

Makes we lean toward a Dell X50V pda (vga screen, faster processor, built in Bluetooth + WiFi, built in mic, built in backup battery [v. important!] ).  Add a 4gb microdrive and off you go.  But that uses M$ software   and I'm not sure how much fun that would be.

Not entire sure what the market was meant to be for the C3000.  Sure isn't a typical PDA and it could do with built in wifi for the power user types.  Still, I'm happy with my toy.

C1000/3x00 General discussions / Opera 7.55 On 3k
« on: February 02, 2005, 05:02:47 pm »
Check out this site:

http://www014.upp.so-net.ne.jp/boxer-j/opera7.html

Install both opera_sl-5x00-7.30.9965_arm.ipk and opera-cseries-fix_7.30_arm.ipk, then everything will be fine!

Quote
I managed to download from IBM and strip out the Opera 7.55  ipk.  However it does not run well on the 3k.  It is supposed to take network settings from the Network Applet in the Settings tab but that doesn't work on the 3000.
When I open it from the console:

bash-2.05$ opera
Display size = 480x640
opera: Could not find "ini/standard_mouse.ini"
opera: Could not find "ini/standard_mouse.ini"
opera: libvxm.so: cannot load shared object file: No such file or directory
Don't know how to use proxy autoconfig
QDir::readDirEntries: Cannot read the directory: /hdd3/.operasave
QDir::readDirEntries: Cannot read the directory: /dev/shm/.operasave
QDir::readDirEntries: Cannot read the directory: /usr/mnt.rom/card/.operasave
opera: libvxm.so: cannot load shared object file: No such file or directory
QLibrary open failed!: /home/QtPalmtop/lib/libqsfepj.so, libkke.so.1: cannot load shared object file: No such file or directory

I am not too worried about the voice operation or mouse.ini stuff...what I find troubling is the line about the proxy autoconfig.   Has anyone been able to overcome this issue on the 3000?  I have tried to set my opera.ini file but that changes after you quit the program.

well i guess you use the right procedure... but it seems to me that your fedora core 3 si not "up to date". You "udev" and usb management should mount "automagically" your zaurus drive to your FC3 desktop. That's what happens to mine when it works

C3000 includes a voice recorder software, but I couldn't find the microphone. I also bought a earphone with remote control, someone said that the left earphone is also a microphone. I tried it with the voice recorder, but my voice still could not enter the machine! Where is the microphone or C3000 does NOT have one?

Software / Supertux On Sl-c860

The version of SDL_image on your feed seems to be linked to libpng.so.3 your libpng12 IPK doesn't carry this file (or indeed a link). Therefore supertux fails on trying to load libpng.so.3.

Creating a symlink as follows...

ln -s /usr/lib/libpng12.so.0.1.2.5 /usr/lib/libpng.so.3
ldconfig

Does seem to fix the issue. I would suggest relinking SDL-image after removing libpng.so.3 or adding the link to libpng12.

One more thing - C5600, C3000 and C6000 owners, please, do the following for me:

1. Install kino2 0.4
2. Download the following binary (http://cacko.oesf.org/downloads/kino2/kino2) and copy it to /home/QtPalmtop/bin, override existing file
3. Launch kino2 and let me know if it starts at all or not.

There is a problem in kino 0.4 such that it woun't start at all on other Zaurus models. So I wanted to know if I was able to fix it or not in the first place...
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=64888\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

On my SL-C3000 with the orignal Sharp ROM, the original kino2 0.4 does not start at all. After replacing the binary kino2 file, it can start now. But when I tried to open any MPEG and AVI file and press the play button, nothing happened! This is true with the MPEG file which can be played by the default movie player and the japanese animation AVI file on that MIT guy's mplayer site which can be played very well his mplayer. I checked out the console output but there were no any error messages generated when playing movie files.

Hope this information helps!

I tried it! Both versions work greatly on my C3000! The playback is smooth and clear, and the sound is crispy! Terrific job!

One more suggestion, when the updated Kino2 is out, could you add as many video and audio decoders as possible? So Kino2 can deal with a variety of movie format, like real media, quicktime, Thanks a lot!

Software / Globally Set Path Variable
« on: January 31, 2005, 10:43:21 pm »
Anyone know how to add new directory path to the environment variable PATH? I couldn't find something like /etc/profile to do this, as I usually do on Redhat/Fedora Core. Even after I created a .bash_profile in /home/zaurus directory and reboot my SL-C3000, the .bash_profile does not take any effect at all. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Software / The Default Text Editor On Sl-c3000
« on: January 27, 2005, 11:15:34 am »
I found on my SL-C3000, the default text editor cannot display any double-byte-encoded characters in UTF-8 encoding text file after I set all options in "Code Preferences" to UTF-8: all asian characters, including chinese, korean and japanese, are displayed as empty squares. The change of font size doesn't help. However most of these asian characters can be properly displayed by the "cat" command in the default Terminal. Anyone knows where the problem is? Thanks a lot!

The OGG plugin mentioned here only works with old Sharp media player, which comes with 5500/6000
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=64018\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Unfortunately you are right: it does NOT work with my C3000! I changed all the configuration files related to the default music player, but I was still out of luck. I tried to contact the author to see if I can get any help.

Software / Looking For Vorbis Ogg Plugins For Music Player
« on: January 25, 2005, 10:36:50 pm »
The default music player of SL-C3000 cannot play Vorbis OGG. Are there any plugins available there to enable the music player to be able to play OGG music file? The reason why I prefer the default music player coming with Zaurus is that I can use the accompanied earphone to control the player very conveniently and the music player can still be running even when the lid is closed! But the tkcPlayer from TheKompany will be suspended if the lid is closed and cannot be controlled the earphone.

I tried http://moria.ionkov.net/zaurus/vorbis-plug...1.0.1-6_arm.ipk but it doesn't work for the default music player.

Anyone has any clues? Thanks a lot!

C1000/3x00 General discussions / How To Play Ogg Music File On C3000?
« on: January 25, 2005, 11:28:48 am »
I found out that on my new Zaurus SL-C3000, the music player can only play MP3 format. I am wondering if there is way to play OGG format? 'coz I heard that the sound quality of OGG is better than MP3. Thanks!
