Sharp ROMs / Watapon ROM
« on: March 28, 2005, 08:53:28 pm »
I started repacking some of the programs I use the most. Some software that gave me issues installing on Watapon, They "should" install and operate seamlessly now. I have also included some of the offical repacks done by chaos. Most of the repacks are nothing more than a cleaner version of the original so they integrate with watapon nicer, while a few I created from scratch to make life easy.

My "Unoffical" Watapon Feed is at
http://www.nayr.net/zaurus/feed

I havent tested every singe repack as of right now but I will later tonight. If there isint a repack then the original installs perfectly with no need for modification, forward any comments or problems to my email..

I have created packages for the missing db2file, the missing libssl, a fixed version of rotate, and best of all is nano and libncurses5 packages amongst other things

You need libssl, you can get it from my Watapon feed @ http://www.nayr.net/zaurus/feed/
or you can flash to the newly released version 1.6.1 and the OM/Pi problem is fixed.

General Discussion / Using Zaurus 5500 As A Universal Remote Control
« on: March 25, 2005, 06:56:42 pm »
nothing to do with using zaurus as ir remote, but the SBlive remote I have dosent use the same infared signaling as normal remotes.. My universal learning remote controll would tell me it learned keypresses from the sblive remote but the sblive ir reciver would not pickup the ir from the universal remote.. I fired up the ir monitoring program on my sblive ir port and found it only picks up signals from the sblive remote.. did not react to my IR keyboard or any of my other IR remotes.. therefore I wouldent expect opie remote to cope well with the SBLive remote either.

just watched supervolcano, some made for tv movie that pretends yellowstone errupts, and the black guy who always gets killed had one of these lazer keyboards... right before he died it showed it and it looked pretty sweet.  at least it makes a good movie prop if nothing else!

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Zaurus As A Car Media Player
« on: March 22, 2005, 12:43:33 am »
my head unit got stolen as well, however all my speakers and amps were left behind.. since my speakers are powered by an external amp I got a stero 9mm to RCA adapter from radio shack routed the cable to my center console with power for my 5600.. when I get in I setup the playlist and tuck it away, I use the buttions on the front for controlling volume and switching tracks.. I had to retune my amp for the Zaurus, but its a clarion 600w 4ch marine so I have great output controll..
mmm, now I want a gps unit

Sharp ROMs / Video Player Success stories
« on: March 15, 2005, 04:15:04 pm »
excellent post chris, this will help me alot..
I understand not all Zaurus are not created equal, my old 5000D is currently doing nothing more than being my wireless access point, but thanks to you I should have enough information to cover various quality settings so even you guys with the 5500's can enjoy mobile video.

I wasent ignoring VLC, its just I hadent had a chance to use it yet so I hadent commented.. i'll add it to my todo.

im working on it on my spare time, my goal is for people to be able to create mobile media without having to dive head first into codecs and methodology like I had to do.

ive been able to compress movies down to 1.8Mb a min and play them back smoothly on my 5600, quality is quite good.. im still tweaking some things, but I'll post some final results soon.. but currently I can rip an entire DVD onto a 256MB (w/room to spare) card with good quality and playback. I am using mplayer to play them with Kino2 as a frontend.
