Sharp ROMs / Embeddedkonsole Vs. Qkonsole
« on: December 15, 2005, 10:48:22 pm »
Hey Folks,

Running PINE in embeddedkonsole (qpe-terminal in cacko feed) displays accented characters correctly but I get no such love with qkonsole running PINE. In both cases $TERM is vt100. Setting the TERM to xterm or screen doesn't help. Strangely, I get accented characters in qkonsole *outside* of PINE. Also, I've trying changing the charset options in PINE but to no avail.

I'd rather run qkonsole if possible because I like the fullscreen mode and embeddedkonsole takes up way too much screen space with the tabs (is there any way to turn these off?).

Any ideas?

Let me know if you would like me to post binaries for fetchmail and friends.
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

The best is to create a complete IPK packages, so that they can be easily added to the feed.

A corresponding HOWTO is available here:

Thanks for the link. I shall attempt to package a few things this weekend

Thanks for the quick response. I guess you do not require pop/smtp email

Using Maslovsky's excellent dev_image kit I've compiled procmail as well as fetchmail and msmtp (both with ssl support). I'm using the msmtp-enqueue and msmtp-runqueue scripts to use pine (thanks DrWowe) as an offline reader. Because my ISP doesn't allow smtp access from outside domains I'm using gmail's smtp server to send mail (it won't munge your From: header if you add the addresses as alternates through gmail's web interface). Anyhow, this setup runs more smoothly than I'm making it sound

Let me know if you would like me to post binaries for fetchmail and friends.

I'm using mutt at the moment with port forwarding as I've never had much luck with kopiemail but I would love to try pine so post away! Pico and pilot would also be nice. Thanks so much.

Are you talking about the punctuation or all of the keys on the right of the keyboard?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=99768\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Some of the keys on the right side (maybe 7 or 8) do not give anything (or could that perhaps mean something that is not "printable"...?).   The rest of them give the wrong character... which we take to mean the problem is incorrect mapping of keyboard output to the "input" process on the Zaurus.  We have tried a second Fellowes Stowaway USB keyboard with the same results.  I believe we have the Sharp 1.1 rom.   Thanks for your response.

I've got the exact same issue with a C1000 on Cacko 1.23beta. For example the "i" key doesn't seem to register as well as others on the right side. Are there, perhaps, mulitple versions of this keyboard? I could pick up another USB keyboard but I really like the feel and portability of the Fellowes.

Sharp ROMs / Increase Default Font Size In Opera?
« on: October 21, 2005, 12:27:44 am »

I don't know how to set any thresholds. The options in the Opera inifile I tried didn't work. However, there is one solution which would work and that is deleting helvetica_80*.qpf (ie. the unreadably small font) from /home/QtPalmtop/lib/fonts. This will force QT (and Opera therefore) to use the next bigger size which is 10 point.

Update: If you're interested in improving the output quality in Qtopia and Opera, check this out.

Wow! I'm writing this from my Z using the AA Trebuchet from your provided link and am very impressed. Readability is much better at the small sizes (although I'm still scaled up a little for oesf at 120%). Thank you very much for this tip. I seriously recommend that others try it (the original Cacko Trebuchet fonts are also there if you want to go back).

Add this to /home/zaurus/.opera/opera.ini:

[Font.Normal]
FaceName=helvetica
Height=16
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=99685\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Ahhh, okay. That works! Thanks.

I also tried changing the "Minimum font size" setting in "[User Prefs]" but to no avail. Any clues?

okay, this seems like it should be really easy but I can't figure it out. I've searched the forums but maybe I'm just braindead today so it's not coming up. Anyhow, <dr evil> can someone throw me a frikkin bone here? </dr evil>

Oh, this is on a C1000 with cacko 1.23beta if it matters.

how do you use the usb mouse? i just plugged it in but nothing happens... dmesg says something about usb device not activated.

using rc12 on c3100
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=99183\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I just plugged it in and dmesg picks it up properly. After that I open up the "USB Function" app and switch to "serial" mode and it just works. I don't know if it matters but this is with a Kensington Orbit two button trackball.

I'm also using a C1000 so perhaps this is C3100 specific. Did you upgrade from rc11 or was this a freshly flashed rc12?

« on: October 11, 2005, 01:59:22 am »
I apologize for the somewhat redundant post in the "rc 12" topic but this topic seemed more suitable...

Anyhow, I'm using rc12 with a C1000 and while a USB mouse works fine trying to use a USB keyboard is a no-go. Switching USB function to "serial" causes the built-in keyboard to stop working (touch screen works fine) and no keypresses from the USB keyboard are registered. Unplugging the keyboard and switching the USB function back to "storage" freezes up the system.

I've tried both a Fellowes "stowaway keyboard" as well as a standard mac usb keyboard.

Any ideas?

Has anyone had any luck with a USB keyboard?

I've got a USB stowaway (Fellowes) that doesn seem to work. dmesg picks it up properly but I don't get any results from keypresses. I tried playing around with the USB config but no luck. This is on a C1000 with a freshly flashed rc12.

I'm loving this RC otherwise though. Sash and Laze, you guys are amazing!

Software / Problem Using Basilisk On C3100
« on: September 15, 2005, 10:04:09 pm »
I've got the same issue on a C1000 (cacko 1.23 beta + X/Qt Jumbopack - thanks maslovsky and meanie!). I don't have this problem with minivmac so I'm thinking it's a basilisk on zaurus issue. I agree that it's incredibly frustrating as it is completely usable otherwise. I'm sorry I don't have any kind of solution

i guess because i'm using Cacko 1.23beta ROM instead of original Sharp ROM JP

you should try Cacko too
they have a development release and it works great

Fantastic! Where does one obtain the 1.23 developer release?

Thanks,
