Guylhem Rom / Bugs In 1.0rc4

loc4me,

Thats great news. Your list is everything i need.  I will say that I can connect to my home access point without issue and without changing any settings, i first runn /usr/local/net.wifi.scanap (or something close, sorry running pdaxrom) and then run dhcpcd wlan0 and im up.

The only thing i would ask for that is above and beyond your list is general stability increases.  I used the rom for 48 hours this last week and had it lock up several times.  It happened after i install some opie apps to the internal flash with the package manager.

Yes. the instablilty issues have arisen after using the built in app to install pakages. this is included in the list. Thanks for any additional bugs you find.

Guylhem Rom / Bugs In 1.0rc4

I have not reloaded rc4 yet (although I still have it on a cf card). But as I remember the things i wanted to see fixed, in order of importance, were:

1.  Network setup gui and taskbar icons to work instead of editing scripts.
2.  Being able to sync default addressbook, etc with PC
3.  /home/zaurus/Documents seemed to have circular symlink to itself
4.  Right-hand rotation fonts fixed (to use IR keyboard without mirror)
5.  SD card fix. I think this is already figured out. It involved 2 commands:
       modprobe sharp_mmcsd_m
       mount -o noatime /dev/mmcda1 /mnt/card
(or editing init.d script to point to actual location of files)
6.  Being able to install programs to SD card
7.  "Use thick fonts" under Themes >> Font caused corrupt fonts (very minor)
8.  NOT A BUG. JUST A WISH. Accelerated video drivers

Give the word and I will contribute $50.00 with another $50.00 to follow on completion of this list (not including accelerated video since that is not a bug). I will also test rc candidates. Thanks much!!!!!!!!!

On #2 are you saying that the sync abilty with included utilites on the CD is broken? I have not used these so i would not know.

Guylhem Rom / Bugs In 1.0rc4
« on: April 02, 2006, 05:22:47 pm »
I have corresponded with Guylhem on progess of this ROM. He has agreed to attempt to fix the bugs in 1.0RC4. List your bugs here in the format below per Guylhem's instructions. I will edit this post to keep an edited list of bugs so they can be easilly accessed.

Format (he needs):
- a list of the bugs
- a way to reproduce themg
- their importance (high, med, low)

Thanks,
-Mark

NOTE: I personally i have not confirmed all bugs listed below. If someone sees a bug i have listed that is not correct please inform me by way of this thread or PM. Thanks.

==========================================
[span style=\'font-size:14pt;line-height:100%\']List of Bugs for 1.0RC4[/span]:

1. Wifi (High)
- Unable to connect using the "any" ssid name. Name must be specified in order to connect to the access point. Also unable to get dhcp to function. Must hardcode IP in the script. Would like to have the Network setup GUI and connection manager working.
- Include working WEP scrips. Supposedly working fix is located here.

2. CF Bluetooth drivers (high)
- See post here. The blue tooth modules seem to be missing. Include newest version of Bluez.

3. Recursive symlink to Documents folder (high)
- Path to /home/zaurus/Documents is circular symlink to itself.
- easily fixed. Just deletet the folder and recreate a new one.

4. Fonts fixed (medium)
- Using "think fonts" causes font corruption. Also Right and left hand fonts need to be included.

5. SD fix (high)
- Unable to install programs to SD card and SD cards not being automounted.

6. Battery Applet (medium)
- Battery applet granular display of % batter left disapears after reboots. Second battery in Sled is not registered when connected.
- Gant theme was installed when granular bug occured. Not sure if the theme is the culprit or not?

7. IPKG install (high)
- Many report lockups using the GUI to install ipkg. Have to reset and reboot.

8. PC sync (meduim)
- Unable to sync with qtopia desktop or link to PC with samba

9. Tab editor (low)
- unable to delete icons using the built in tab editor. Able to add new ones and modify existing ones though.

10. Update program versions (low)
- Update Zeditor version
- Update and add IRK keyboard drivers

11. Qtopia reboot on KO/PI alarm (low)
- Qtopia reboots after alarm notification in KO/PI

12. 2b driver (med)
- I belive that Cresho has extracted the 2gb driver out of his C3200. Others have confirmed it works on other C3xxx/C1xxx.

13. Support for USB ethernet (low)
- Not sure if this works currently?

So my approach for the last months has been to rethink of the problem, and look at the options.

I guess this means the Guylhem ROM and the kernel project is dead.  oh well.  Would have been nice if he had gotten it to 1.0 --- I am pretty much am satisfied with the Sharp ROM, but would have switched to his ROM if it made it to 1.0

Unfortunately, networking plus my cards not working was the critical steps that stopped me from making the changeover.  Of all the ROM projects, I thought this one had the most potential (I liked being able to use the Sharp ROM ipks, and having just a little more features added incrementally, which is what his was doing).

No, the project is not dead. I have been in contact with Guylhem and he has agreed to fix the bugs in RC3 so the ROM can make it to 1.0. I have started a new thread for this. Post your bugs there so we can get it going.

I also hope that this project is not dead.  I would be willing to contribute in any way possible.  The idea of a rom that is tailored to the great 6000l would be killer.  I would be willing to host a page or download site if this project picked up.

I would also consider donating more to get this project up and going again. This rom has many nice features that are not available anywhere esle. I would also like to see the Cacko/Guylhem rom that DrWowe was working on be realeased as well. Both of these developers seem to have "disapeared". The 6000 is great hardware i just wish we could get some more "active" development for it. I hate to see this good hardware slip away b/c lack of great software and continued development

Hi,
I am looking to trade my C3000 for a C3100. Anyone interested let me know. I am also willing to just sell it if anybody would be interested in that.

The unit has hardly been used. It is flashed with Cacko C3kb1. It has had a screen protector from day 1. I have two new batteries. There are ZERO scratches on the unit. It  has always been transported in a padded case. I am very meticulous about my stuff hence the excelent condition of my C3000. I have all the accesories including box, CDs and manuals. I can send pictures if anyone is interested. I also have a socket/symbol wifi card that can be included if interested as well as several CF and SD cards of 256mb or 512mb.

Either PM me or email markmiller51 [at] gmail [dot] com

Thanks,
-Mark

OpenBSD / Anyone Interested In Prebuilt Bleeding Edge?
« on: February 15, 2006, 12:02:21 am »
I would like to see the binaries posted for OBSD. I am very interested in trying new distros on the zaurus but i dont have the time or the environments set up ATM for me to cross compile the sources. I do like to tinker with my Z but i do not have the knowledge of the inner workings of a Linux or Unix system therefore i would not be building a distro from the source.

I follow this forum daily and love to see the experienced users making an effort to do things and help those of us who are still "just learning". I think it would be nice to see some binaries for OBDS that include these nice and helpful patches that Andy has gone through the trouble to incorporate.

Thanks for the offer Andy. I would like to see them.

Is this the calculator?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=114668\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

This is the emulator software for the TI-85 calculator.  It also requires a ROM image, which you can get from an existing device (or possibly from somewhere else on the internet, although I understand it to be illegal to share such ROM images.)

Does anyone know if there are emulators for any other TI calculators such as TI-86 or TI-89?

What about an HP emulator?

Hello community,

I am an amateur radio operator and I really need a sled for the next level of my zaurus development and technical hacking.

I'd like to make my 6000 the center of my communications array, and for that I need the extra CF slot and extended battery life. (My current battery already drops one notch after I start using it on wifi)

I'm holding off on doing a lot of development because I don't have the necessary equipment, and I'm hoping that someone out there knows someone, or is willing to part with it themselves.

I can be reached here at the boards.
Funds are limited, but I'm hoping we can work something out.

I doubt someone is ready to part with one they already have but you can buy them new at www.conics.net and www.streamlinecpus.com. Good luck. And they are rather expensive but it is really your only chance of getting one. Soon they will be out of stock and not longer able to get one.

Sharp ROMs / Cacko On C3000 And Symbol Wifi
« on: February 08, 2006, 06:44:14 pm »
Thanks, I actually figured it out by following the instrucitons below. The only thing that is different with the C3kb1 is that the Internet wizard is not installed so it does not work. The wifi card is working now on my home setup I just hope it will work up at school when i dont always know the SSID. Thanks

OK, to update my sleepy last post -

The trick to get the Spectrum24 Card to work on the C1000 was to follow these directons first

To get the Symbol Wireless Networker working with the C3000:

Quote
Enter these commands into the terminal:
su
cd /home/etc/pcmcia
vi spectrum.conf

Delete the # from the begining of the second line
Enter a # at the beginning of the third line
Save the changes
Reboot

You can replace the reboot with this command as su in terminal
/etc/rc.d/init.d/pcmcia restart

The reinsert your wireless card into the Zaurus.

Next in the Network app - select the wizard and " LAN Card" and do a detect and click yes onto the end - this will add a "Common LAN Card" to the settings (and not a Wireless LAN Card) - strange as it may seem but the LAN card at least brings to life the wireless card and I can see some light activity on the card.

To get connected with your wireless access point (even with WEP enabled)
go to terminal and enter the command

iwconfig eth0 essid "xxxxxxx" key <key code in hex>

Now you can click onthe globe connect button and say connect using the Common LAN card and lo and behold - its actually connects to the wireless internet.

Sharp ROMs / Cacko On C3000 And Symbol Wifi
« on: February 02, 2006, 08:38:18 pm »
I posted this in the model specific forums but i have not recieved any help yet. I thought maybe posting in another forum might help. Here was my original post:

Hello,
I have a C3000 with the 1.23 beta version of cacko installed. I am attempting to get the symbol wifi card to work. I have seen a topic on this before but i was unable to find it when I searched. if anyone could outline the steps I need to take in order to get the symbol wifi card working with the Cacko rom on a C3000, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks
-Mark

Also when i plug in the CF wifi card the activity light flickers but no matter how i try to configure it the green power/activity light will not come on so i know it is not configured properly. Thanks.

Software / Eliminating Unwanted Sharp Programs?
« on: January 12, 2006, 11:22:59 pm »
Yes there is a way to remove them. You have to remount the root partition as read/write (rw). I forget how to do it so i am not being much help here. I am sure someone else with be much more helpful than I am. Since it is being used you can umount it so that is why there is a special comand that just REmounts it.

EDIT:
Check out the topic here look at post number 2. Hope that helps.

Oh... you have do delete each individual file on its own. there is no uninstal feature even when you do this.
