General Discussion / Keycode.tbl From Us Sl-6000

Thanks for the info, i saw his keycode.tbl file, but it's the jap version so it was of no use to me. I flashed the US NAND backup from drwowe yesterday and copied the file in the end. everything is working fine now... thanks anyways.

Where did you get the NAND backup. I did not see one of those posted. could you post a link here to it? Thanks.

surely someone has half an hour free or how ever long it takes to compile this for the sharp ROM. I would really appreciate it if someone could compile this. I know there are others out there who would also like it. Thanks.

General Discussion / Replacing Rom On Sharp Sl-c1000
« on: January 10, 2006, 08:20:12 pm »

A co-worker of mine brought me a Sharp Zaurus SL-C1000 and was looking for assistance in replacing the current ROM with a more capable ROM.

From the look of the unit it has some type of branded Citibank (the financier) ROM.
The settings and available software is very limited, plus there seems to be some language support problems. Allot of the dialog is in unrecognizable or unsupported characters.

I'm looking for assistance in possibly replace or flashing the ROM with a better one.

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Cheers!

search for Cacko, pdaXrom or Open Zaurus (OZ). Those are you main choices for new roms.

www.cacko.biz
www.pdaxrom.org
www.openzarus.org.

If you use the search function in the forums you will find support and help for installing and configuring.

Good luck

hi,

I am in need of a file (keycode.tbl) that's found on US versions of SL-6000 in /home/QtPalmtop/etc, if someone can give that to me, it would save me from doing another NAND backup/restore.

Thanks...

DrWowe posted one on here a couple weeks ago. Look in the 6000 forums. Or seach his posts. I dont remember exactly where it was. It was fairly recent so it wont take to long.

Software / Recommendations For An Addressbook
« on: January 10, 2006, 07:56:29 pm »

Hi,

What would you recommend for an addressbook application on a Zaurus SL-C3100?  I am looking for an application that scales well and can easily handle 1000's of addresses.  I would also like the normal functionality of being able to handle vcard/vcf imports and beam/send adresses. So far I have tried:

Cheers,

Gary.

P.S. Does anyone know whether Ko/Pi behaves in the same manner as ka/pi?  I would like to import a few thousand appointments (actually satellite passes - useful in my job), but this will not be helpful if the app grinds to a halt.

Have you tried TKC address from thekompany.com???

For Sale / Wanted / C1000 + Bluetooth Card + Cash For C3000/3100

May i ask why you are so anxious to trade? With so many scams going around concerning the zaurus now days i am leary about buying/trading one from someone who has very little history here on the forums. You signed up for an OE account 3 days ago and seem overly anxious to get a C3000 when a C1000 has all the capabilites of the C3000. And dont take it personally. I just dont like to see people getting ripped off.

6000 - Tosa / Rom Discussion On Tosa

I'm thinking about combining that with Guyhelm kernel and seeing if I can make a Cacko-6000 ROM.  I'll post back if I get that going.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=109351\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Just an update here.  I've been working on this a bit for the past few days and it's working.  I've got Cacko on the 6000.

Not everything is working yet and there are bugs, but I'm hopeful I can get them worked out and make a release eventually.

Any ideas for what I should call it?  I'm thinking "CG-6000 ROM" to acknowlege Cacko and Guylhem.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=109585\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

That would be really great. I have always thought that the cacko rom for the 6000 would make it the best hand held. The only thing that would be different is that Kino would not be as good since video acceleration is not working at the moment.

I have no idea for the name. CG6000 Rom is better than anything i have attempted to put together. Let us know if you would like to recieve some donations to help with the porting progress. Thanks

Zaurus - pdaXrom / 6000 Vs 3100
« on: January 04, 2006, 10:40:08 pm »
Well i have both and the sled and i really dont have a preference. I would not sell either to obtain the other. Actually this is not exactly true. I have the C3000 and i would sell it for the C3100. haha.

To be a bit more helpful, i use each for a bit different purpose. I like the 6000 better for regular PIM duties and day to day use. The C3000 is much better for typing (keyboard is much nicer) and web surfing b/c of default landscape orientation. I dont really like the 6000 in landscape w/o an external keyboard.

Concerning storage, you dont have the full 4gb drive for program storage.  I dont know exactly what you get with the C3100 but i only have 400mb for storage on the C3000. The rest is for USB mass storage. There are topics that lead you through partioning the drive to be able to use however much you want for program storage but they require a bit of hacking.

Although i have the sled for the 6000, i hardly use it. When i first got it i used it all the time but i like the smaller size. If using the Guylhem rom and underclocking the battery life is sufficient. I also have no need for 2 CF slots at the moment. I will after i get a bluetooth card. I have just ordered a treo 650 and plan on using Blue tooth DUN to connect my Z to the net. Pending i can find a socket BT card? (anyone have one for sale????).

I have not tried PdaXrom at all. I would like too but i have not found a nice  step by step install guide for the 6000 yet. IF you know of one let me know. I am sure it is easy but i would like to read one first.

My opinion is just buy a C3100 and then decide for your self. Prices on Pricejapan are up right now but when they come down i will probably upgrade to a C3100. The only reason i would trade the C3000 for the C3100 is the availability of ROMs. Hope that helps.

speculatrix,

Just curious if it would be possible to run the navigation software from TomTom on the Zaurus? What GIU is used on TomTom GO?

Also what about the bluetooth connection? Can a link be established over that to the TomTom?

6000 - Tosa / Rom Discussion On Tosa

I switch between pdaXrom (the newest beta version works well for me) and Sharp ROM, although I've heavily customized the Sharp ROM.  I've been experimenting with Guylhem kernel, by default he changes all the keymappings but you can change it back by recompiling.  As soon as I get that finished, do you want me to post it?  It should just be a few days if all goes well.

I acquired a C760 recently and I've been playing with Cacko ROM.  It's very very nice, it's what Sharp ROM should be.  I'm thinking about combining that with Guyhelm kernel and seeing if I can make a Cacko-6000 ROM.  I'll post back if I get that going.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=109351\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I would also be very interested in tyring the rom you have customized for yourself. If you have time combining best of Cacko and Guylhem's ROM would make a really nice combo.

You say that he changes all the keymappings by default and you can change back if you  recompile the kernel. Why would you want to change back? the Guylhem rom is the only one i have had working with all the keyboard "out of the box" with out hacking it. What advantage do you see in going back to the "default" keymapping. I know you have been able to make your own keymappings using the keycode.tbl file, is that the reason you would go back?

Thanks

Wow, that is an amazing peice of hardware. Too bad it is running Windows XP. The price is a little steep $1500. But I think that is the coolest handheld i have seen.
