GPD - Linux OS / Ubuntu Mate on Pocket
« on: November 06, 2018, 09:49:28 am »
Just a follow up still love Ubuntu-Mate.  There has been a boot problem where sometimes grub goes to black screen but this is the fix.

Edit the file /etc/default/grub (try something like ‘sudo nano /etc/default/grub’ in a terminal)

Add the following lines to the file:

GRUB_GFXMODE=1200x1920x32
GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=keep
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=“acpi_osi=Linux”

Save the file, and return to the command prompt and run ‘sudo update-grub’

If I didn't have a Gemini I'd be all over this, but can't really justify the upgrade at this price point.  What I fear is we are going to loose all potential Gemini support / updates as they now focus on the new "flagship" product.

New products and alternatives / One Mix Yoga 7

I watched a Youtube comparison on the One Mix Yoga vs Pocket 1 ... in that the person said it was unfair to review against pocket 2 as it is far superior machine.  FWIW

GPD - Linux OS / Ubuntu Mate on Pocket
« on: October 22, 2018, 09:29:23 am »
So I read Ubuntu Mate has made a specific spin for the GPD Pocket and Pocket 2 machines.

http://ubuntu-mate.org

I did an install over the weekend and so far it looks pretty good.  Wifi worked, screen rotate was correct, I like the 720p scale feature.  Watched some Youtube without issue.  Touch screen worked well.  Overall felt speedy enough for my needs.

Nice to have a clean out of box experience without a ton of tweaks necessary post install.

Anyone else give this a go?

Gemini PDA - Android / How likely is Android 8 really?
« on: August 08, 2018, 10:18:48 am »
Gemini is the third or fourth kickstarter / indegogo project I've backed.  Every one seems to end up abandon-ware after initial release.  I had hoped Planet would be different, but I have finally learned my lesson.  Shame too because I think this is by far the best hardware device in similar category.

Got mine today, USA shipped Wi-Fi only model.  Order #38xx.  Limited exposure and I'm already beyond pleased.

Someone asked on #planetgemini what's the purpose of the blue LED on some of the photos, does anybody know?

 [ Invalid Attachment ]

Could it be a charging LED, or maybe is it the Caps Lock led?

Varti

It looks like caps lock and low battery.

Twitter reply said Steve only had a pre-production unit for a hour.  Still, love all the positive feedback so far.

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / Finally decided to make my pledge...

After reading all the posts here, and even though I have been mostly pleased with my GPD Pocket, I too put in for a Gemini (although just the WiFi edition).  Looking forward to see how things turn out.

At the time of the origional post I know there was at least one US dealer selling them because I almost bought one, but can't find anything now.
