GPD - Linux OS / Ubuntu Mate on Pocket
« on: October 22, 2018, 09:29:23 am »
So I read Ubuntu Mate has made a specific spin for the GPD Pocket and Pocket 2 machines.

http://ubuntu-mate.org

I did an install over the weekend and so far it looks pretty good.  Wifi worked, screen rotate was correct, I like the 720p scale feature.  Watched some Youtube without issue.  Touch screen worked well.  Overall felt speedy enough for my needs.

Nice to have a clean out of box experience without a ton of tweaks necessary post install.

Anyone else give this a go?

GPD Pocket - hardware / GPD Pocket Reviews
« on: June 20, 2017, 08:21:15 am »
Ok quick opening post for the GPD Pocket reviews.

I got mine yesterday and am very impressed with build quality.  Went with the windows version, I hear the linux models are delayed due to kernel support.  Havne't had any power or fan issues as some reported.

Only had time to run windows updates but plan on doing more this week and can post results / answer questions here.

Anyone else who gets theirs feel free to reply in this thread with thoughts as well.

To help fund my GPD Pocket purchase I am going to sell my GPD WIN.  I have all original package (can provide photos if needed).  I wanted to post here before putting it up on Ebay.  I am just looking to get back what I paid so asking $300 USD + shipping.  Paypal F&F prefered.  Thanks.

GPD Win - hardware / Charger Heat
« on: November 18, 2016, 08:49:40 am »
So I noticed my power charger gets REAL hot when plugged in and charging the GPD WIN.  Wonder if I have a faulty one or if these are just slightly under powered so working hard producing extra heat?

The GPD itself gets warm but not alarming so (no more than some other devices I have).

GPD Win - hardware / Travel Case
« on: November 14, 2016, 01:11:45 pm »
Anyone come up with a travel case that fits the GPD well?  I'd probably want to take the power supply and a few other trinkets along too.  I've had it in my pocket but I think that puts extra pressure on the screen as I've noticed keyboard marks on the glass already.

GPD - Linux OS / Live Distros That Work
« on: November 11, 2016, 11:18:18 am »
So I tried Ubuntu 64bit 16.10 and Ubuntu-Mate 64bit 16.10 and neither would boot.  Both get to the text menu where you can pick install / live/ etc. but when I select live you see the little keyboard in the corner for a second, then half of it dissapears, then just black screen.

Am I missing some setting?  Still working on other non-computer related projects but figured I'd get a live environment up and going easier than this?!?!??!

Zaurus - Arch Linux ARM support / Alarmz On Qemu
« on: December 07, 2015, 10:42:37 am »
Ok so I thought this would be easy but I am (probably) one step in over my head so maybe someone can help.

QEMU has native support for the Zaurus line of product under ARM emulation.  After a little google search it seemed running a debian install worked good so why not get ALARMZ going.

So the steps I have done so far is as follows.

I had to create a raw disk image to run from, so did this to make a 6gig image.

Code: [Select]
dd if=/dev/null of=alarm.img bs=1M seek=6114
Then I had to format the image.

Code: [Select]
mkfs.ext4 -F alarm.img
Then I mounted it and untar the file system just like you would on real hardware.

Code: [Select]
mkdir /mnt/alarm
mount -t ext4 -o loop alarm.img /mnt/alarm
bsdtar xvf alarm-zaurus-c3x00-minimal-rootfs-october2015.tar.xz -C /mnt/alarm/

Now I thought that would be it, start up the VM and watch the magic happen.  Unfortunately no such luck.

Code: [Select]
qemu-system-arm -machine spitz alarm.img

qemu: fatal: Trying to execute code outside RAM or ROM at 0x00800000

Aborted

So I'm not sure where to go from here.  Looking at other start-up strings it does seem like I might be missing -kernel and  -initrd files but have no idea where to get them.

If anyone can point me in a direction I'll try to do the leg work

General Discussion / Zaurus Wifi Access Point Options
« on: May 24, 2011, 01:21:59 pm »
As the Zaurus wifi only supports WEP (and in my case B networking having on an older card), I was wondering what solutions other users implemented to maintain network connectivity in a WPA world?

A second access point would work, or maybe a guest account created with alternate firmware such as DD-WRT, or even keep it wired with a LAN card.

Just curious,

Nokia Tablet / Nokia N770 Alternate Os's
« on: November 08, 2007, 03:16:26 pm »
I did some google searches today and found out there was an experimental build of Poky for N800.  Then, came across the link to http://pokylinux.org/autobuild/poky/ that has some 770 files (however seemingly no kernel, or .bin for that matter).

I'll admit, I know nothing other then what I read (which is limited by what I can find it seems), but I'd like to give it or other alternatives a try.  I have Hackers on it now, which runs ok when it runs.  I know there seems to be a lot more support for the n800 but with the price drop a few months back there should be a decent user base for the classic 770.

Anyone else do any dabbling or should I just kick the 770 to the curb and pick up a n800 for xmas?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Sl-c3100 Pdaxrom Install Suggestions Needed
« on: October 31, 2006, 12:57:29 pm »
Ok, I am not new to any of this so although it seems like a newb post I'm really just trying to save myself time trying everything out.

I have a 3100.  Ran pdaXrom on my old 860, had OZ on the new 3100 for a long time, then went back to Cacko because 'it just worked' better for my needs.

Since then, my Z has sat in a drawer for months, can't even remember how long actually.  Needless to say that is a lot of investment doing nothing.  I want to use it again, but don't need a PDA ... I want it to be a mini-laptop.  Not a test machine, but something actually useable that I can count on working.

Enter pdaXrom beta3.  Not ready to plunge into the new boot loader, and this seems to be the best/last stable.  So here are my questions:

First, best partition scheme?  My current thougths were 121meg nand root, 128meg swap on HD, and rest of HD one big ext2 volume.  Default mounting puts /mnt/ide for the HD.  Does anyone recomend any symbolic links to folders (like home or opt) so that application installs are better/easier?  Or has the ipkg -d ide install option been made more stable?  I am very used to OZ loading to HD and having the full 4gig as root so need to see how you pdaXrom guys do it.

And second, best window manager replacement?  I really wanted to run xfce4 as I use that on a lot of my desktop/servers, plus it would wow my co-workers.  However, I see fluxbox is getting popular, as is icewm ... or even just adding Rox desktop to default install.  All I really need is something where editing menus isnt' too hard and that provides a window list.  I know it's opinionated but any feedback would help.

Thanks in advance to everyone, hopefully with a little learning and some time my Z will be back at being productive once again.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Ssh X Forwarding
« on: May 16, 2006, 11:34:33 pm »
I hate to even post the question but is there any way to enable X forwarding with a SSH session?  I did a forum search but didn't see anyone else ask this.  The usual -X switch isn't even available.

Thanks in advance.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Gaim Icq/aim?
« on: May 16, 2006, 11:17:13 pm »
I see there are a ton of protocols available except for the 2 I actually use (other then jabber for google talk access).  Am I missing something or is there just not ICQ/AIM support?

Thanks in advance.

Sharp ROMs / Mplayer Stopped Opening Files
« on: February 05, 2006, 12:52:24 am »
I've been trying to get this fixed for 2 days.  After playing around with some packages I decided to reflash my SL-C3100.  Ever since mplayer will no longer open any movies (all of which worked fine before re-flash).

I've flashed twice now with same end result and am at wits end.  The only thing unique about my system is I partitioned the HD different then default factory setting, which works fine after I replace the rc.rofilesys with the modified one, but the first boot of course doesn't finish without having to "ctrl-c".

Thanks for the help in advance...
