Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Sdhc Support In 2.6.23+?
« on: January 10, 2009, 11:54:00 am »
I poked around and couldn't find the answer, so please excuse if this is common knowledge. Is SDHC (secure digitial high capacity (AKA big honking SD cards)) supposed do be handled in the 2.6.23+ kernels?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Keymap Issue?
« on: January 04, 2009, 12:48:39 am »
Hello,  I am running the 20081219-akita altboot console version. I went that route because there seemed to be a keymap issue on the x11 image. So I was running the altboot console version and everything was working fine but when I installed gpe-* to get the gui stuff I ended up with the same problem. Namely rather important buttons like function and escape aren't working. Can anybody either tell me how to fix the problem or suggest a better version to use?

Also, whatever tskeys is totally dogging the machine and I have to kill it when ASAP after booting. Are there any suggestions for fixing that?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Hardware Question For Wired Cf Ethernet
« on: January 03, 2009, 08:56:34 pm »
Does anybody have an opinion on whether or not a particular wired cf ethernet card would work with angstom? Some guy on ebay (search for "socket ethernet cf card") appears to have a lot of them and I was wondering if was worth a shot.

Ubuntu / Wireless Anybody?
« on: January 01, 2009, 11:13:23 pm »
I am having some trouble getting the network connected. I have a Socket CF wifi card, a sandisk connect plus CF card, and a D-Link DCF-660W CF wifi card and I can't get any of them to work. So my question is, how are people getting connected with zubuntu? At this point I am open to pretty much anything including usb and blutooth (but not a modem).

Ubuntu / Multiboot Issue
« on: December 31, 2008, 11:52:13 pm »
OK, I've been trying a while now to get multiboot working with Zubuntu and Angstrom without success. Zubuntu works like a champ so I thought getting Angstrom to work would be easy. I have tried various Angstrom tarballs from http://www.angstrom-distribution.org/unsta...utobuild/akita/ (x11-image-akita.tar.gz even comes with the command line file). However, whatever I try it can't mount the root partition (/dev/mtdblk0p2) but then it helpfully suggests that partition is available should I wish to specify it as a boot option.

So what am I missing? Does anybody have any ideas or can report success? Should I maybe try specifying ext2 instead of ext3?

Ubuntu / Akita Install Report
« on: December 31, 2008, 10:27:54 pm »
I just installed zubuntu on my akita (Zaurus SLC1000) using an SD card for root and I just wanted to post how it is going so far. For the most part it runs fine. It takes a while to boot and start X, but once it is up and running it's actually faster than I thought it would be for most things. Just for giggles I tried suspend and was pleasantly shocked to see it works flawlessly.

Tweaks:
* I dedicated a swap partition on the SD card, but it wasn't usable until I ran mkswap on it.
* Added "/dev/mmcblk0p3 none swap sw 0 0" to fstab mount the swap automatically on boot.
* Added "/dev/mmcblk0p2 /media/card auto defaults 0 0" to fstab to mount an extra partition on the SD card.
* Added "/dev/mtdblock3 /media/nand jffs2 defaults 0 0" to fstab to mount NAND flash partion.
* Added "/dev/hda1 /media/cf auto defaults, sync, noauto 0 0" to fstab be able to easily mount the CF card.

Non Problem Problems :
* tskeys was running wild so I killed it (killall tskeys).
* Got funky warnings about understanding it's not a touch screen but X seems to work OK.
* Added pxa2xx_cs to modules and "modprobe pxa2xx_cs" to be able to mount the CF card.

Problems:
* Sound isn't working. spitz modules inserted, no errors with aplay, just no sound.
GUI volume control automutes eventually, cat /dev/urandom > /dev/dsp is black hole.
* Can't seem to rotate the display.

TODO:
* Get networking working and really start hacking.
* Get sound working.
* Get rotating working.
* Get Angstrom working dual boot style to compare.
* See about speeding things up some more.

Questions:
* How does one do home, end, and PageUp, PageDown, and  function keys?
* Is it possible to switch over to a virtual console (hence the need for fn keys)?
* How does one map the calendar, address, mail, home, and menu keys?

TIA,
James

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Oz 3.5.4.1 Bluetooth
« on: May 27, 2007, 11:48:02 pm »
I just installed OZ 3.5.4.1 on my Akita and I am not having much luck getting a Bluetooth DUN connection to my T-Mobile phone working. At first I bought an AmbiCom BT2000 and I couldn't get it working on my Zaurus or laptop. So I bought a Belkin f8T020 ver 2 and I got it working nicely on my laptop under Ubuntu Fiesty Fawn. On the Zaurus I have it working except for actually making a ppp connection. I am actually getting very odd behavior where attempts to connect seem to randomly result in either A) I get no debug output  acts like noauth is not defined (peer refused to authenticate), or C) I am getting a loopback detected.

The most frustrating part is that it works like a champ on the laptop. Please no suggestions to use Angstrom unless you have one of these bluetooth cards and have it working under Angstrom. As far as I can tell Angstrom Zaurus support is still beta and I would rather not bodly go with this.

So, any ideas?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Ambicom Bt2000e
« on: April 29, 2007, 07:33:18 pm »
Hello, I am trying to get an Ambicom BT2000E card working on my C1000 running OZ GPE 3.5.4. My problem seems very similar to the one reported in an old post, but that problem was never resolved (https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=22223).

The command cardctl ident reports the card as:
Socket 0:
  product info: "AmbiCom,Inc", "BT2000E", "Bluetooth PC/CF Card"
  manfid: 0x022d, 0x2000
  function: 2 (serial)

/etc/pcmcia/bluetooth.conf has a listing for the card:

card "AmbiCom BT2000E Bluetooth Card"
  version "AmbiCom,Inc", "BT2000E"
  bind "bt950_cs"

But hcitool dev lists no local devices. I looked but I could not find a bt950_cs module anywhere, so I think I am missing something. If anybody is using this card any help would be greatly appreciated.

For Sale / Wanted / For Sale: Sharp Zaurus Slc-750
« on: January 14, 2005, 04:19:05 pm »
I am selling my used Sharp Zaurus SLC-750. I'm selling it because as cool as it is, I find that I don't actually use it much and I end up leaving it at home a lot. It's in good shape and I bought it new from Japan about a year ago. It is currently flashed with OpenZaurus 3.5.2 although I can flash it with whatever ROM you want. I was using a Cacko ROM before OZ.

It comes with:
 * Original box, CD, and documentation (in Japanese)
 * Belt pouch
 * Charger
 * Sandisk 256 Meg SD card
 * Kodak 8 Meg CF card (Mostly to protect the CF slot)
 * USB cable
 * A large "I don't do windows" sticker (that I can remove if you want)

As I said, it's in good shape, and I am asking $500 US + $10 USPS priority shipping to anywhere in the continental US. I am willing to ship anywhere or something other than USPS but the payment must still be in advance and the shipping costs will probably go up. I am shipping from Oklahoma, USA. PayPal or money order is preferred.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Something Is Killing My Cf Wireless Cards!
« on: January 07, 2005, 11:56:28 am »
OK,

This makes the second D-Link 660W that my Zaurus has killed. Has anybody else had problems like this? The first one almost works, but I get some error about being unable to set the frequency. For the second one, OZ says it's unsupported and cardctl info reports it as a D-Link DCF. Both cards worked flawlessly for a while before this happened.

Does anybody have any ideas or suggestions? Is there a way to reflash these things?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Zoom Zoom
« on: January 04, 2005, 05:09:47 pm »
On my SLC-750 some apps look really, really, eye strainingly tiny. Off the top of my head, mahjong and solitaire. Is there a way to "zoom" the screen like you could in the stock ROM?

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Oz 3.5.2 Sync Question/problem
« on: January 04, 2005, 02:41:37 pm »
Is anybody else using Qtopia 1.7 to sync with thier Zaurus? It seems to work OK, but I can't figure out how to get Task notes to my Zaurus. Am I missing something obvious? On the desktop you have description for the name and Notes for the text, but on the Zaurus you just have one big description.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Install Problem
« on: January 02, 2005, 09:29:40 pm »
OK, I've been using the cacko ROM and pretty happy except for the syncing, so it's time to try out OpenZaurus. But I can't seem to install it. I think part of the problem is the complete lack of documentation. So I'll tell everybody what I've done, and maybe somebody can tell me what I'm doing wrong.

OK, first of I have downloaded opie-image.rootfs.img, updater.sh, and zimage.bin.C750 from http://oz.hentges.net/mirror/oz3.5.2/c7x0,c8x0/ and renamed the files to initrd.bin, updater.sh, and zImage respectfully. I placed them on my CF card and did the appropriate things. Things appear to progress normally, but all I get after booting is a disabled window bigger than the screen going on about search parameters. I'm kind of disappointed because usually when flashing goes bad it's much more spectacular.

So, any ideas? Are there any restrictions on the size of the flash partition needed? Is the root image really 14 Megs, or what?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pkgconfig Question
« on: January 02, 2005, 03:06:35 pm »
Hello,
I have a little time to play around and I really want to get Evolution working on RC8. However, when I try to compile I get an error that libgtkhtml-3.1 can't be found. I'm a Perl and Java developer, and I know almost nothing about compiling regular applications. What exactly does error this mean? I assume that the SDK does not include a library that Evolution is looking for. Am I right on that? If so, how does one go about adding libraries to the SDK?

BTW, I have compiled gnokii and rsync anf have it up on my website. I am going to try xmame next.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Evolution Anyone?
« on: December 19, 2004, 10:04:42 pm »
Hello,

I know Evolution is a bit beefy for the Zaurus (SLC-750), but I already use it on the desktop and with MultiSync the syncing would be awesome. I have tried KO/PI but while the Zaurus part is nice, getting a desktop version up and running is painful. I have not tried to sync between them yet because my wifi card died just after getting KO/PI installed on my Zaurus. I use RHFC2 at work and debian Sarge at home, and Evolution is readily available for both, but KO/PI is not. However, the KO/PI documentation for getting it running on the desktop is awful, so I could very well be missing something.

Well anyway, if anybody comes up with and Evlolution IPK I would be happy to be a tester. I don't need any funky plugins or anything.
