Zaurus - pdaXrom / A Couple New Packages
« on: December 19, 2004, 03:39:33 pm »
Hey, I tried to compile a whole bunch of stuff I would like to use on my SLC-750 running PDAXROM, but so far I've only had success with a couple. But, I really haven't tried that hard yet, rsync and gnokii played nice out of the box. Unfortunately these really aren't tested. I had a problem that turned out to be a just-barely-defective-enough-to-not-work D-Link DCF-660W wireless card. During my several days of troubleshooting I flashed my Zaurus with Cacko ROM since the card worked well with that ROM. But I think it got zapped with static electricity or something, and just won't work now for some reason even though it acts like it should. So now I am waiting for RC6 to flash it again, and haven't tested these IPK's.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Irda Nokia Connection
« on: November 22, 2004, 10:49:18 pm »
Howdy Folks,

I am generally having fun with RC5 on my c750, but I am trying to get irda working to use my Nokia 8290 as a modem. I found a page (http://www.insomniq.com/files/zaurus/IrDA-HOWTO.html) so I think it is theoretically possible. I have gotten further with my Zaurus than with my laptop, though. :-)

First prong of attack is to us a conventional approach. Namely, the pdaxrom PPP tools and /dev/ircomm0. I go to dial and the connection tool tells me what I can go do with myself.

The second prong of attack is to use gnokii. I have used the SDK and now have 0.6.4 installed. xgnokii is waaaaaaay cool running on the zaurus, BTW! Anyway, I can talk to the phone just fine, jack with contacts, send SMS's, etc. When I run gnokiid a gnokii device is created as expected. When I point pppd at it I get much further, namely an OK back, but then I get an ERROR and it goes downhill after that.

So, my main question is, does anybody else using thier Nokia as a modem via IR? I don't have much experience with dialup. Does anybody have any suggestions? Does anybody have a minicom IPK handy so that I can poke about?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / C750 -> pdaXrom 1.1.0 Kathrin RC5

I tried to RTFM but couldn't find one. Is it possible to run RC5 on an SLC-750? It acts like the partition isn't big enough. How big does it have to be?

Linux Issues / Got Sync working with "New" ROM
« on: March 22, 2004, 11:12:34 am »
I didn\'t come up with this, but it works. On either the original ROM or the new cacko Qtopia ROM make sure you have ssh up and sunning. Then install Evolution 1.4 or better and Multisync 0.81 or better. Then go to http://opie.handhelds.org/feed/sharprom/latest/ and install the three PIM packages on your zaurus. Pick SFTP in Multisync and you can see the results after restarting qtopia on the zaurus. I\'m researching a way to get qtopia desktop syncing by installing the \"old\" sync packages.

Sharp ROMs / Problem, Comments on new Cacko Qtiopia ROM
« on: March 21, 2004, 12:27:14 pm »
First off, the only reproducable problem I have is the Hancom mobile word doesn\'t seem to be able to deal with ms word doc files. It thinks it can, but it can\'t. It looks like it can even save in doc format, just not read it. The spreadsheet program works well. Is anybody else getting this behaviour or am I special? I plan on trying to rummage up a hancomm mobile word, \"overwriting\" the one in the ROM and see if that helps.

I am also experiencing a probaem that happens often, but not every time. If I run a program in \"magnified screen\" mode, physically flip the screen, then flip it back, sometimes the machine reboots. Instantly. Very annoying. If I can get it to do it regularly I will report back.

Finally, is there a reason I\'m missing why NetFront and Opera are included? Why not just opera? Other than that, very sweet ROM folks!

Linux Issues / SL-C750 almost syncing, need info please
« on: March 18, 2004, 11:07:46 am »
Hello all,

I have installed the \"old\" PIM apps on my SL-C750 in order to be able to sync using QtDesktop on Linux (Mandrake if you must know). This is without compiling anything, just using ipkg. (It\'s pretty sad, I went through all the trouble of getting USB to work and still couldn\'t sync! So using WiFI is awsome in comparison.) So, now the Qtopia Desktop should be able to handle the data files on the Zaurus, but it still won\'t sync. From my very limited knowledge of how the process works, there are at least two possible causes.

My first guess is that (I think I remember correctly that) in addition to changing the data file structure, Sharp also changed the TCP port. I was too tired to try it last night, but tonight I plan to research this and see if it is the problem. Any information, port numbers, config file locations, etc would be greatly appreciated. If this does turn out to be the problem I will investigate forwarding the port with SSH to maintain forward compatability.

The second possibility is that I need more net mojo installed. I am using the OZ 3.2 versions of the apps because I fiddled with OZ before going back to the Sharp ROM, and the PIM syncing worked like a charm. Also, if I get them to work I could use a lot of the other OZ software on the Sharp ROM. So my question to all you OpenZaurus gurus out there is, how does OZ sync with Qtopia Desktop? FTP? SMB? Port numbers? Again, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Any other potential causes or insight, anybody?

PS Of couse if I get all this working I\'ll throuw everything up on my webpage.

Sharp ROMs / CACkO ROM C750 Comments and Questions (OZ)
« on: March 17, 2004, 10:45:11 pm »
Hello All,

I installed the latest CACkO Zaurus Qtopia ROM 1.20 on my SL-C750 and I\'m very happy with it so far. But I am running into the PIM Linux Sync issue. I experimented with OpenZaurus but it was way too unstable for my test, but syncing over WiFi was addictive. I would like to install the OZ PIM stuff and some other OZ software, but it looks like the IPK\'s are incomatable. Does anybody have any suggestions for using the OZ feed with this ROM? If so I think it would be the best of both worlds!

TIA,
James

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / OZ 3.3.6pre1 Apps (SL-C750)
« on: March 15, 2004, 10:50:17 am »
This release is obviously beta because many things are broken. But I can sync with QTopia on my linux machines over wifi so I\'m hooked. Here is what I have discovered so far.

The good:

I was able to get konquerer installed and working. Good enough, may try opera later.

I was able to instal oz-compat and get gaim working for AIM at least. Not Yahoo.

I was able to install and use QPDF and image viewer.

The bad:

The Calendar seems read only.

I have to reset the clock every time I reboot.

The oxygen, recorder, and ftp apps are DOA.

Opie-write crashes too often to be useful.

I was not able to get irda working.

The ugly:

I was not able to get any MP3 or MPG application installed or working.

I was not able to get any IMAP capable email client installed or working.

I was not able to get any of the original Sharp apps to run.

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / OZ 3.3.6pre1 SL-C750 web browser?
« on: March 10, 2004, 10:44:36 am »
Hello,

I recently installed OZ 3.3.6pre1 on my SL-C750 and and pretty pleased to be able to ync with Qtopia. Among other things. The big problem I have is, where\'s the browser? I found the microbrowser but it is not beefy enough for me. Since OZ 3.3.6pre1 is gcc3 based, none of the IPK\'s I used to use work anymore. Can anybody please tell me how I can get a relatively full featured browser up and running? I\'m not picky, opera, konquerer, firebird, whatever.

And while you\'re at it, how about gaim?

TIA,
James

Folks,

The good news is that I just got the USB link working between my Mandrake 9.1 box and my SL-C750. I can SSH to it and everything. The bad news is that I can\'t find a version of Qtopia Desktop that will see it. I have tried versions 1.6.0beta1-1, 1.6.2-1rh9, and 1.7.0-1rh9.

Does anybody have any ideas? Does anybody have an IPK of the SL-5500 pims I can try?

Cxx0 General discussions / SL-C7X0 Annoyances: Any Solutions?
« on: November 02, 2003, 11:37:03 am »
Howdy Folks,

I got my C750 from Ebay, and the previous owner got it from Dynamism. To make a long, sad story short, I was messing around with VNC and killed the little guy. I had to do a hard reset, but I found a nice website and I would say for the most part it is better than it was before. With three minor, annoying exceptions, and I was wondering if anybody had any ideas about how do deal with them. Dynamism wants $35 before they will even talk to me even though it is still under warranty.

1) In some lists (like install new package and open image file) all entries
are listed twice, but everything seems to work OK.
2) In some applications like the contact manager, when I start to type it
does \"funky stuff\". But all I have to do is push the japanese labeled
key next to the space key all is well, and the icon in the tray goes
from some japanese symbol to the letter A.
3) I can\'t get zmame to work anymore.

My number one feature request would be (after fixing #2 above) to be able to remap the two japanese labeled keys next to the space bar to CTRL and ALT. Does anybody have any ideas with that?

I will continue to look for answers, but I am hoping for some short cuts. :-)

Cxx0 General discussions / SL-C750 Sync Problem: Probably Mea Culpa
« on: October 28, 2003, 01:45:00 pm »
Hello All,

I recently bought an SL-C750 am I am going to town on it. I am a bit of a linux nut, so the first thing I did was make it a little more secure by locking down all the network ports and some ther stuff. Then I installed SSH. :-) But now I am trying to sync with my desktop and I\'m not having any luck. I have tried Intellisync, QTopis Desktop (win and linux), and multisync (linux) all with no luck. I tried putting it back to the way I found it, but I think I missed something important. I fing it it ironic that I can SSH and telnet to it, but not sync!

So anyway, does anybody know what exactly Intellisync and/or Qtopia needs to be happy?
