Gemini PDA - Linux / Linux on wifi only?

I was too impatient to wait for Planet to release an official Debian firmware for the wifi-only model, so I cooked up a frankenstein firmware. Here is what I did in case you want do risk doing the same:

- Backup your NVRAM!
- Follow the instructions I have added to the wiki to take a full backup: https://github.com/gemian/gemini-keyboard-apps/wiki/Flashing
- Extract the 4G x27 Debian firmware and replace system.img with the one from your full backup
- Flash it as usual

Gemini PDA - Linux / Observations a few days in

-- Unless your fingers are much, much smaller than those found on any human ever recorded (even a baby human), using the screen to navigate will be hit-and-miss, literally. This is exacerbated by the mouse pointer, which follows your finger around but usually doesn't catch up (this will be come less of an issue with accelerated video drivers, but I do not know their status).

First thing I do when I get mine will be to setup relative mouse movement, so that the touchscreen behaves like a laptop touchpad rather than a touchscreen. Same as what TeamViewer or MS RDP android apps do.

I'm amazed no one else has done/documented this yet! It seems like such an obvious solution to the problem

This is the last update I got yesterday:

Shipping will start in Jan (right at end of). We will then have to try to ramp up mass production as quickly as possible to get as many units as we can out before Chinese NY.

I would hope that your unit is part of that first shipment but can’t 100% promise given uncertainties of this being the first one the factory will really be increasing production of Gemini

There have been concerns voiced over using the touchscreen as a mouse in Linux with a desktop OS.  Is it possible to use the touchscreen under Linux as a touch pad mouse (relative instead of absolute positioning)?

Relative cursor is how I intend to use it, similar to the android TeamViewer and MS RDP apps. Not sure whether this will be a simple config change or if I'll have to whip up something more complex, but this will be the first thing I do when my Gemini shows up
