Gemini PDA - Linux / My Gemini is now useless Video Problem

So faithful to the Psion Series 5 that they've even reproduced the infamous ribbon issue

(The Psion 5 had a ribbon cable from the main body to the display that would get loose or even break after prolonged use. Not reassuring in the least to see that the Gemini seems to have the same problem...)

If it is that then perhaps the OP could try taking all covers off and making sure all the cables are seated correctly.

I hope you're aware you can turn that off?

Absolutely, it's one of the first things I did as I suspect it was for most people.

My point it that it is a pointless feature, although a slight clicky effect to simulate what you get on a mechanical switch might be useful.

Lose the haptics on the keyboard, or change it from a buzz to a single click.

Thanks very much. That was very helpful.

I have triangle, gray sim card (?) with slash through it, and a full battery symbol.

I guess that means I have an X25 with no sim card in it.

If you got your one in March then that's almost a certainty, if you got it recently it's unlikely.

Do you still have the box it came in? If you do if there is one IMEI number it's a x25, if there are 2 IMEI numbers then it's a x27

Gemini PDA - Android / Android Rooted/Unrooted Partitioning

As far as I know it's one android installation.  The boot.img differs so you can either boot in rooted or unrooted mode, everything else remains constant.

Thanks, however when I installed them neither were rooted, I ran Magisk and now both are rooted. Is there a way to unroot the one image?

How can I determine which one I have? There are no markings on the case and I could find no option in the settings telling me the version.
Thanks for any help.

If you can make calls it's not the WiFi only version, if you have 2 SIMs (1 physical, 1 eSim) it's an x27.

Whilst you don't seem to be able to have just Linux, you can make it the first partition and have the minimum space for Android (probably around 5G) and never, ever boot into it.

After several installs and brickings I've gone for a Std Android/Linux/Rooted Android arrangement.

I'm sure something has gone wrong as I cannot see any difference between the rooted & unrooted installations, every change I make on one appears on the other, both are rooted.

Even if both installs share the system files I would have expected to be able to have different apps, password & wallpaper on each.

So has it gone wrong or have I fundamentally misunderstood something?

Perhaps with your router off it's continually seeking the connection. Do you get the same drain if you leave the router on?

Do you have anything plugged into the USB as I've found a hub even with nothing plugged into it drinks power at an alarming rate.

Gemini PDA - General Discussion / Multi-boot
« on: July 02, 2018, 12:57:26 pm »
I'm interested in the community view on this.

Personally I find the "Hold button X and release button Y at specific times" to get one of 4 boot options a complete pain.

I would far prefer it to have just 2 options:
1 - Just Escape - Boot into whatever ran the last time.
2 - Esc + Silver button - A boot menu.

Boot menus seem to be out of fashion, no idea why as it's far more versatile system than the hit-and-miss press buttons and hope.

Backlighting the keyboard would be tricky if they want to avoid making it any thicker, an alternative might be to put a LED roughly where the ambient light sensor is pointing across the keyboard, perhaps a UV LED and phosphorescent ink on the keys would prevent stray (visible) light dazzling the user.

-------------------

A Hub/Docking station, slightly wedge shaped to to match the open Gemini and plugging into the right USB C, the hub should have HDMI, RJ45 a few USB A & C sockets, a SD card reader at the front and a track pad on the flat upper surface, power pass through would be nice but might be impractical. Could be used abutting the Gemini or with a short male to female USB C lead put to the left side (for left handers).

Actually the track pad could be optional, just have a blank top plate for users who hate track pads, perhaps with a small pile of Planet branded Post-It notes :-)

Gemini PDA - Android / USB-Sticks <solved>

So I guess it must be the USB-micro-to-C-adapter. Which one do you use?

None, I plug the C connector straight into the Gemini, both sides works perfectly.

I had to let the Gemini format it and when plugged into a PC the PC complains, suggests formatting it but if that dialogue is dismissed the PC reads and writes quite happily.

Mines a 64G, don't know if there's max size the Gemini can see, perhaps if your's is a 128G that might be a problem (but honestly I doubt it).

The recent update made no difference, it worked before and it works after.

I did have a few issues with bluetooth connection to the headphones. I couldn't actually 'find' my headphones, but on a plane I use aux cables anyway.

Bluetooth seems fragile, it takes many resets to see some devices. I did get some Bluetooth headphones working (eventually) but there's a lot of lag (at least on the cheap set I have) so for films it's useless as they're well out of sync.

Not quite correct...

The Android installation on the Gemini includes drivers for FAT32 but does not include drivers for ExFAT.

Sure but the Gemini should be able to see the stick even if it can't read it without formatting it first.

How does a USB-stick need to be formatted then? As said, the USB-stick I tested works fine with other Android device, version 4.2, though.

If it works for any Android it should work on the Gemini. Have you installed the latest firmware? Is it still running the stock Android as supplied, if not that might be related.

Have you checked the notifications (swipe down from top) after inserting the stick?

So, anyone who has connected a USB-Memory-Stick to the Gemini, got it working and can tell how they did it?

Hi

I've got one of these
 [ Invalid Attachment ]
Plugged into either socket directly or through a A to C adapter works fine, the A end plugged in to a hub plugged into the left socket also works.

How is your stick formatted? Because Android is rather fussy.

My hub is a 6 port job from pqi but the USB C and the HDMI ports don't work with the Gemini, the RJ45, USB A and SD card ports do work. Actually I'm not sure if this model is still available.
