Cosmo Communicator - Hardware / Unofficial TWRP build
« on: December 17, 2019, 06:34:21 am »
Ninji, wanted to inform you about successfully using your TWRP. Thank you for doing this great work which greatly improved usability of my Cosmo. For all others: My Cosmo is allready rooted, I downloaded all boot images from here and I installed "Official TWRP App" from Playstore. Now I can change my recovery and the boot images on the fly without the need of a computer to flash. This is absolutely great. Exception: If you flashed back your Cosmo to unrooted boot.img you have to use SP flash tools on your PC to get the root back (I am not aware of any other way, as far as I know flash programs on any Android device need root)

Cosmo Communicator - Hardware / Mouse for Cosmo

Chances are very, very high. At least my oldish USB2 portable mouse works when using an adapter

Cosmo Communicator - General Discussion / Poor battery life
« on: December 06, 2019, 11:55:38 am »
NormMonkey, won't help you much: As you I didn't find a way to enter recovery just using keys. But if your Cosmo is rooted (like mine) it's easy to enter recovery. Start Magisk, open the menu (upper left corner), start Modules, then open the 3-dot-menu in the upper right corner and "Reboot to Recovery". Well, you'll reach a black screen with a "lying around Android". At this point I got stuck again. A long press on Esc brings you back to a working Cosmo. Well, without TWRP or a cache cleaner program ( (like "Fast optimizer" by HDM Dev Team) we can't do anything.

Cosmo Communicator - General Discussion / Poor battery life
« on: December 04, 2019, 04:05:32 pm »
Just my two cents. According to the spec sheet the battery capacity should be 4220mAh. Tested my Cosmo with a program named Ampere and got 2900mAh. Hmm. I think I missed something...

Cosmo Communicator - Hardware / Rooting the Cosmo Communicator
« on: December 02, 2019, 02:24:19 pm »
The driver problem is solved by installing the MTK driver package MTK_USB_All_v1.0.8 (you'll find that on Inet).

When Cosmo is booted goto Settings -> System -> Advanced -> Developer options and enable USB debugging (If there is no developer options goto About phone and tap 7 times on Build number). Now start a CMD window (as administrator) and connect Cosmo. You'll be prompted with a message where you'll be asked to authorize the USB debugging connection. Do so and then issue the command "adb devices". It should prompt you with your device name without unautorized.

Cosmo Communicator - Hardware / Rooting the Cosmo Communicator

Thank you all contributing to this thread. With the scatter.txt and boot-magisk.img provided by ZimbiX I was able to root my Cosmo about 4h after receiving it :-).

Now I'm going to "improve" it the way I used to optimize my Gemini.

Update 1: Started Magisk manager, within Magisk installed Riru-Core and then Riru-EdXposed (SandHook), installed edXposed manager.apk, rebooted and started edxposed. It works!

Update 2: Within edXposed I installed GravityBox [P] v 9.1.3, updated modules list  and rebooted. It works :-)

Regarding "Your device has failed verification and may not work properly..." I think this message is most probably located in lk (21500000). In another forum someone tweakd this area, the text is gone, but the 5 sec waiting time still exists. We'll know when the Planet Computers solution of rooting is published. For the time being I just ignore that message ;-)

Ok, the postman was nice to me and delivered my Cosmo     . No. 126 (German keyboard, EC power supply) reached its destination. It's up and running now and I love the keyboard backlight. After some time (rooting etc.) it will substitute my Gemini. Great phone/computer/communicator, I love it. Best buy since Gemini

Gemini PDA - Hardware / Sometimes Wifi won't register

One attempt to improve connection is described here: https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?s=&...st&p=290853

Another two cents: I assume you got the full boosted (Wifi+GSM) model and you got a data plan, which you never switch off. If Wifi is weak your Gemini starts to search for GSM-data, before deciding to switch back to Wifi. This kills any transfer speed . To alter this behavior open "Settings", open "Developer options" (if you can't find it open"About phone", tap on "Build number 7 times", go back one time and you should see the additional menu entry), scroll down to "Aggressive Wi-Fi to Mobile handover" and then to "Mobile data always active" and activate both. The third possibility is to alter Wi-Fi roam Scans. Please report back if it made your Gemini flying.

Hope that helps, bye for now Fred

Gemini PDA - Android / File Manager

The next two cents: Probably it helps to "allow apps on external" (makes any app eligible to be written to external storage, regardless of manifest value).
Open "Settings", open "Developer options" (if you can't find it open"About phone", tap on "Build number 7 times", go back one time and you should see the additional menu entry), scroll down to the bottom and activate the entry "Force allow apps on external".

Hope that helps, bye for now  Fred

Gemini PDA - Android / Guest account
« on: December 02, 2018, 12:06:29 pm »
My two cents: A couple of years ago I used to have a second account on my phone, today I don't need that feature anymore and I didn't try it on my Gemini. Nevertheless I'm sure it works if ...
...your Gemini is rooted
...you downloaded and installed "SwitchMe Multiple Accounts" from Playstore (Fahrbot PRI). To remove ads you can buy the key for €2.09

Hope that helps and bye for now  Fred
