Off Topic forum / Linux To Power Google Gphone?
« on: August 06, 2007, 10:56:48 am »
linux seems to be the new standard in embedded products.  We have all these new phones, linux based palm products, etc.  I am so happy to see somemore main-stream companys using linux as a base.  Let's hope this trend continues.

Hey Capn.  Thanks for all of your hard work!  I was noticing that the tool searches for hardware listed as wlan0.  My card, however is listed as eth0.  Could you make switching between the two an option?

Nokia Tablet / So....
« on: July 08, 2007, 07:08:04 pm »
chicks dig em??

Well, apparently.  I had my girlfriend over.
Her:What's that?
Me:An internet tablet
Her:Let me see (hands it to her)
an hour later
Me:So... want to do something?
Her:Can't talk, surfing...

I also had the internet radio running, so I guess free music is always a plus, too.

But yeah, I actually just booted up my 3200.  It's been down for a week or so.  I am a pdaxrom purist but right now my wifi card isn't supported.  The nokia gives me utter simplicity and power (in its own right)

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Wireless Not Working At All :(
« on: July 01, 2007, 10:46:24 am »
Aye, zeigerpuppy and IU have been working to find some sort of solution.  However, speaking for myself I am not a gifted coder or anything of the sort.  The card worked before I installed the sp's (after dropping the firmware in the right spot).  Something must have broken inbetween.  Dmesg and cardctl ident id the card, as well.

Since the net has been a defunct function I haven't really been using my Z all that much.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Want Compiled Thread?
« on: June 07, 2007, 02:25:21 pm »
has anyone compiled the driver modules for the generic webcams that was up on Tyrannozaurus?  I've tried to set up build enviros but I fail miserably.  I know you said you can't compile modules Capn but I figured it was silly to start a new topic.

Ubuntu / Ubuntu On My Zaurus?
« on: May 10, 2007, 04:10:06 pm »
The way I look at it is, fantastic.  There have been commercial companies producing linux os's for a long time and you all know that.  I got into linux via the zaurus.  In fact, I learned most of my linux skills on the Z.  This spread to my desktop and laptop which I currently run some form or another of linux on at once.  I don't think a little commercialism is going to hurt our open source movement.  I am as passionate about the movement as the next guy but, if this is what it takes to spread the word and the idea of a somewhat geekie, tech savvy thing to the normal guy, so be it.  I can't remember who said it, but, the idea of speading linux to other ecosystems is great, great metaphor.

yeah... because American schools are sooooooo bloody well funded we can afford more expensive laptops.  ARRRGGGHHHHH!!
(sorry, I work in Education, and if roads were funded like schools we'd all be riding mules)

edit: olpc is a good project-- I just wish the US would get behind it. Our support for education is worse than pathetic....   Especially when you look at the tiny trickle that gets past "administrative projects" "Building and maintenance" and the publishing companies.... and DELL.

aye, it's a shame.  Coming from Connecticut, where taxes are disgusting it's hard to swallow the fact that neigh 75 percent of our taxes go to education.  The whole thing needs to be restructured.  Here, we put in so much money into the system and yet, most of it gets swallowed at the top.  They always try ask for more money, but the problem isn't in a lacking of funds it's in uncessesary spending (here, that is.  We are spoiled brats education-wise)
