[I think most developers use Debian. You can even install it from the knoppix live cd, if you want -easy and painless.

I had considered Debian, but I've always heard that it's for advanced linux users.

Qt/Qtopia / Best Distro For Z Dev?
« on: March 22, 2005, 05:04:42 pm »
My Redhat 9 disk 2 broke the other day. (I was using a version that came with a book.) Anyway, I've decided to check out some other distros. I'd tried a couple of times in the past to get a Zaurus Dev environment step up, but could never get it to work. So my question is, what's the best distro as far as Zaurus Development goes? I'm not that great at Linux. I dual boot and play with it some.

Software / Imdb On Z?
« on: March 18, 2005, 11:26:55 am »
One thing that I miss from my Psion 5 is TomeRaider. I've noticed that TomeRaider has copies of the IMDB available in it's format. I'm wondering if there's also a copy of the IMDB (Internet Movie Database) available in some format that one of the Zaurus book readers can handle?

Software / Opie-reader Support

Tim,

Hope you're feeling better. I just wanted to say that I've enjoyed using Opie Reader. It is one of the most professional and useful programs I've found for the Z.

That's one of the problems with reading the book first and then seeing the movie. You have it in your head how things are, and then the movie looks different.

I've been saying "42" to people for years and they always look at me funny.

Software / Can Zaurus replace my Psion netBook? (RTF format notes!)

The Psion Series 5 was a great machine. I wish they had made a faster color version.

Interesting. There's also some videos for small screens at http://www.pocketmovies.net

Most of them are commericals or previews, but some are short films.

There's a demo available for download. I didn't like it myself. But to each his own I guess.

There is a Python section in these forums in the Everything Development section. You might want to try asking your question there.

Python / Python 2.4 Zaurus Image Available
« on: January 20, 2005, 02:27:22 pm »
I'm currently using your 2.3 image. To upgrade to 2.4 I know that I need to download the 2.4 image. Do I also need to get the new IPK as well?

Python / Creating Python 2.4 Zaurus Image

I'm using kopsis's Python 2.3 image on a 5600 with the Watapon rom. I've just started working with python, so I haven't tried all the modules. But the basic stuff seems to work and the little stuff I've done with pyqt seems to work.

Python / Deleting Qcanvasitem

You're way ahead of me. I've never used a QCanvas (at least not yet :-). But I just looked at the qt docs and it seems that QCanvas has a removeItem method. Have you tried that?

Nevermind. My bad. It says "For internal use only. "

User Request for Applications / mod/xm/s3m tracker for the Z?

After all, the first decent mod trackers were on the st and amiga and if I remember correct they only ran at 30 mhz, or so.
Actually the first sts and amigas run around 7-8 mhz :-)

Another thing that might be possible is to run an st or amiga emulator and then run one of their trackers. Not to sure how well that would work though.

There's the Castaway Atari ST Emulator for the Zaurus at http://angela1.data-uncertain.co.uk/~zaurus/  although work seems to have halted on it.

http://home.planet.nl/~woodl/ has a port of Hatari for pdaXrom

I think mmhart.com my have had some amiga emulator stuff, but that site has been down for a while now.
