Yes, you can install stuff that way.

As for large SD card compatibility, I'm not sure... Do a search...

Thanks InSearchOf, that did the trick.

However I can see no difference in performance between 640x272 and 320x163.

The 640x272 looks crisper, as it should.

It's a pity that while the Z can play xvid videos beautifully, the internal microdrive holds it back...

Are CF cards faster than SD cards? Perhaps the videos played through a CF card won't have this problem...

When playing from the microdrive, if I don't use the -cache option, the video plays perfectly! Weird...

Video bitrate @ 500kbps, audio @ 96kbps.

Not bad... ;-)

I gotta ask< though... do you really think a 640x480 (or 270) ar 500k looks better than a 320x240 at 500k..or even 300k?  My impression has been that the artifacting you get from hires lowbandwidth is actually worse than the loss of resolution you get going to lowres qvga while maintaining things  like framrate and contrast.

eitherway, -framedrop and -autosync 30 are probably a good idea.

Unfortunately, I can't seem to be able to get mplayer to play a 320x240 video fullscreen...

Hello all,

as the title says I would like to hear your suggestions on the matter.

I am lately using my Z as a multimedia device (watching divx movies etc.).

The problem is, when a movie is playing from the microdrive, it will start smoothly (video-audio bitrates: 500 & 96 kbps respectively) but as it progresses, the microdrive gets accessed more & more causing delays, framedrops etc.

I would think that a solid state CF card will not have these problems...

I'm interested in a 4GB card.

I've been reading about the SanDisk extreme series, but it's way out of my league... It costs ~ 250 euros in Europe!

Is a 133x card even necessary? What I mean is, are there any noticeable differences in speed between a 80x card and a 133x one when used in the Z?

I've found a great bargain - a 4gb Transcend 120x CF card for 120 euros.

Are they any good? The specs sure are nice, and it can function normally at 70 degrees celsius.

Is there anything better out there in the bang for the buck category?

Beta4 is highly unstable and many things are broken. Use beta3, it's great!

I think 128 (121 in reality) MB is fine for pdaXrom.

What I do on my C3100, is install all essential ipks (wm, browsers etc.) into flash until there's about 10mb free.

After that I make a NAND backup.

Then I install secondary stuff to /dev/hda2 which I've formatted to ext3. ;-)

Everything works nicely...

Ok, I think I've made some progress.

I've encoded a 640x272 clip with a video bitrate of 500kbps and an audio bitrate of 96kbps (mp3).

It plays fine with the following options:

mplayer -vo bvdd -cache 8192 -autosync 30

I am playing the video from the microdrive. However, after the portion of the video stored in the cache is over, the microdrive spins up every once in a while to load data, thus causing pauses and loss of a/v synchronization...

Any ideas about that?

I'm back to beta3, I'm using XFCE4 from Chero's feed, and everything works perfectly.

I have installed mplayer 1.1.5 bvdd from the cacko feed - while it is faster than the pdaX one, I still can't play a 640x480 file properly.

Even with a video bitrate of 200kbps and audio at 56kbps, mplayer gives about 15-20 fps max. The audio is also out of sync.

When I play the video with -nosound, it plays perfectly - which leads me to believe there's some sort of problem with the audio decoding.

The sound on the video is a 56k mp3.

I've noticed that libmp3 is nowhere to be found. (mplayer reports it uses libmad instead).

Could this be the problem?

Yes but that version's not for the Cxx00's is it?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=137995\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Indeed it's not.

I really, really love pdaXrom (still think it's by far the best option in the Z world)...

Beta3 has been the best for me, so far. Almost 0 problems.

I'm thinking about going back to it...

Is there any chance the new CXX0 stuff makes it to the CXX00 in the foreseeable future?

Out of interest what WM do you use? The incorrect window sizes in matchbox is really annoying and icewm looks ugly and doesn't seem to be any more or less responsive than matchbox. I had a quick play with WindowMaker after reading some posts about it and that looks quite nice, very familar (not that I know linux gui's that much).

Had a quick play with beta 4 but after spending the last couple of weeks playing musical chairs with ROMs I'd like to settle on one and start using my Z for what I intended!

In beta3 I use XFCE4 complete with plugins etc. It's great to use and fast too!

After a few days toying around with beta4 I have to say that calling it 'experimental' is an understatement, granted, having a 2. kernel is great, but almost nothing works the way it should, from wireless to cf/sd hotswapping - I even got segfaults while mounting & unmounting filesystems. Totally unusable.

I'm torn between beta3 and OZ 3.5.4.1 now...

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Cf Problems In Beta4 And D-link 660w

Nobody uses the 660w with beta4? :-(

Can anyone tell me where the Lan & Wifi settings are saved? I create a new profile named 'wlan0', enter the correct settings, however the card is not initialized - if I manually 'ifconfig wlan0 up' then the light comes on blinking, meaning it cannot connect.

If, afterwards, I enter Lan & Wifi settings, they have reverted to the default profile...

So I think the problem is that the settings are not correctly saved...

Thanks Hrw! Now I Firefox can display Greek websites properly... Is there a way to configure GPE Browser & Dillo to use these fonts also? Greek pages when using these 2 browsers are not displayed properly (gibberish)...
