Cxx0 Hardware / Cxx0 Docking Station?
« on: January 30, 2004, 09:23:35 am »
Anyone know if a docking station for the C series exists? I think it\'d be great to have a docking station where you store the Cxx0 in a cradle that supports it in it\'s portrait (view) mode so it looks like an 5x00 cradle.

I usually keep Calendar on my screen but without the keyboard, I\'d love to have something to slip it into instead of fiddling with cables and stuff.

In regards to:

I think that chip with the latest XSCALE 540 MHz CPU and properly developed SDIO would launch the Zaurus into the mainstream. There\'s bound to be money and great use for a PDA with 3D graphics acceleration and connectivity.

I hope there\'s some Sharp people read this post

Cxx0 General discussions / Help required
« on: January 17, 2004, 07:51:46 am »
A little background first:

When I got my C760 I put the Sashz X11 ROM on it but probably due to my own error and restoring user partitions multiple times I could no longer log in as root even after a full flash.

Then I flashed the Cacko C7x0 Qtopia ROM and for a time it was good (a cookie to who can name the film that last part came from!) but when I started listening to mp3\'s with it (well a SINGLE mp3 of about 64MB in length, I like Trance sets) I started having problems with just that.

Typical example of the problem would be me walking to work every morning, I start to walk up the hill and after about 7 or so minutes the mp3 will seem to stop (at this point the zaurus is in my pocket with the LCD off). About 20 or so seconds later I\'ll hear the Qtopia startup sound play so I\'m guessing that something is crashing Qtopia itself but not the entire PDA.

At first I thought it was because I had the Music Player set as \"Fast Load\" but disabling that didn\'t solve the problem. Then I thought it might be the unit trying to go into suspend but I halved the time it took to go into suspend and it didn\'t make a difference.

Then when on IRC talking to a friend who has a 5x00 he suggested it might be bad RAM or something so I booted into the Service Menu\'s and did a NAND Bad Count test, this is the result:

[img]\" border=\"0\" class=\"linked-image\" /]

Notice how it says 2 bad blocks in the first NAND section.

I then did a RAM Test (Full) and then a RAM Write&Read Rpt test but those seems okay.

I then did a NAND Flash Read test and it says the following:
Code: [Select]
NAND Flash Read

  verifying 1...

    adr = 8000000

    Bad Block 2->8192

I\'ve no idea what that means.  I tried a NAND Flash Full Erase and this is what I got:
Code: [Select]
NAND Flash Full Erase

  Total Bad Block = 2

  ERROR! bad b 8192->2

And last of all I tried a NAND Flash (Full)
Code: [Select]
NAND Flash (Full)

  checking ecc... OK.

  writing all 1...

    adr = 8000000

    Bad Block Num = 2

  verifying 1...

    adr = 8000000

    Bad Block Num = 2

  writing all 2...

    adr = 8000000

    Bad Block Num = 2

  verifying 2...

    adr = 8000000

    Bad Block Num = 2

  checking number...OK.

Anyone able to suggest what I can do? Please keep in mind that I live in the UK and I bought this C760 from a guy in Japan on Ebay and I can\'t afford to ship it back to him for replacement right now.

Accessories / It\'s a long shot...

It\'s probably not happened, but do non-flash CompactFlash exist? I remember how we used to get JEIDA (aka PCMCIA) memory cards for old laptops, is there a CF version?

It\'d be great to have a fast SDRAM CF card for running a big swap file on. With the new SL-6000 model only having 64MB RAM but with the options of either Bluetooth and/or Wifi built in that\'ll leave the CF slot free for other things.

I thought if the SD had a 512MB card in and the CF card had a SDRAM card in it would increase the processing power of this PDA significantly.

General Discussion / Source to change LED state?
« on: January 08, 2004, 05:12:18 pm »
A while ago I noticed a post where someone said they had source to set the state of the LED\'s, I did a thorough forum search though and I can\'t seem to find it.

I\'d like something that\'ll let me set the state of the MAIL LED for some scripts. I\'m not sure if it\'s important but I have a C760 running the Cacko X11 ROM.

Software / Common PPPD problem
« on: January 03, 2004, 07:26:08 pm »
Well I thought this was just me but it turns out to be many more people.

Apart from the original sharp ROM for the C760 (from my perspective anyway) all PPPD versions are broken.

I used to be able to dial up to my ISP fine with the PPPD version that came with the Sharp ROM but the one in the X11 ROM and OpenZaurus ROM (according to a friend) all fail at the authentication stage. I\'m guessing there\'s no MS Dialup protocol (or whatever it\'s called) support compiled into this PPPD version.

Is this fixable, and if not can we have the right version compiled in all future ROMs please?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / SR: Sega Genesis/Megadrive Emulator (but not yet!)
« on: January 01, 2004, 07:50:12 pm »
I can not say too much, I don\'t know what Sashz and the Cacko team want to keep a secret until it is released..

All I can say is there is something COOL for the X11 ROM in the works and that it will unlock many doors.

AFTER this \"COOL\" thing has been released, it would be great to have a Sega Genesis / Megadrive emulator that takes full advantage of the Zaurus.

The Zaurus has the potential to be a kick ass gaming machine if the code is right. We have a couple of games already for the X11 ROM like Tuxpuck and XMahjonng but I\'m sorry guys they are good but not THAT good.

I think a Genesis emulator would work wonders. Now I think about it, I used to love playing the old Sonic games. I grew up on them

So here is what the emulator must achieve:

1. It must work without any sprite / frame skips.
2. The audio must work and must not slow the game down.
3. It has to use the entire 640x480 screen
4. We must be able to choose what keys we use for the emulator.
5. It must survive a suspend / resume.
6. Not essential but a game state save / load would be useful

I\'m greedy aren\'t I? I\'m just suggesting things though

Zaurus - pdaXrom / To Cacko Team: reference to faster CPU

In reference to this post, I was wondering if we could have this implemented into the next X11 ROM please?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Network shares?
« on: December 22, 2003, 08:34:38 am »
Okay this is probably a question thats incredibly easy to solve yet I still don\'t know the answer, how does one enable network shares like in the Qtopia ROM? I\'m quite sick of FTP\'ing into my Zaurus every time I want to place / copy files to / from my C760

I used to love just being able to open FoxZ (my Zaurus\'s Hostname) in an IE window (*SHOCK!* I\'m a WinXP user!) but not since flashing the X11 ROM  :?

Off Topic forum / Fastest way to play a wav?
« on: December 21, 2003, 10:04:22 am »
This is what I want to do, I want to play a small wav through the buzzer on the Zaurus whenever I press a specific key. I have tried a few methods but none have helped:

Code: [Select]
cat file.wav > /dev/dsp

That doesn\'t really work

Code: [Select]
mplayer file.wav

This kind of works but a). mplayer is too slow in starting up for my needs and . because the wav is so small (0.3 seconds, Stereo 16 bit 8000Hz Wave) and short it doesn\'t play the wav properly.

Anyone got any suggestions? Something like the keypress beep back in the original Sharp ROM would be good, but I need to control how many beeps.

The older site design has been reinstated? I liked the newer one that showed how many private messages I had unread as well as in my inbox

For Sale / Wanted / Rules for posting in this area of the forums..
« on: December 16, 2003, 09:30:18 am »
Hello all, Foxdie here.

I've created a new area of the forum for people who wish to sell Zaurus-Related items (heh you double sure you wanna sell your Zaurus? You're losing out buddy!) and those who want Zaurus-Related items.

This forum is different from the rest as it requires that you be REGISTERED, with a valid email address for posting and replying. Viewing of the posts is allowed by guests but they can not post here. This is to prevent fraud and trickery.

All posts expire 28 days from the original post date. This is to keep this part of the forum clean of old items for sale. If after say 24 days you still haven't sold / obtained your item and are still insistant you can reply to your own post (commonly known as *bump*'ing) and reset the counter to another 28 days.

All sales posts must contain the following information:
- The topic of your post must start with For Sale: followed by a brief description of what you are selling
- The exact item(s) you are selling including model number, age of the item, condition of the item
- The country / countries you are willing to ship it to
- The price of the item in the countries you wish to sell it to. If you do not mind selling it to any country post the prices for the items in USD$, GPB£ and Euro€ (check out for a live up-to-date web based currency converter)
- The country you live in
- What payment methods you accept
- At least one form of contact information such as a telephone number or an email address or an Instant Messenger account.

All wanted posts must contain the following information:
- The topic of your post must start with Wanted: followed by a brief description of what you need
- The exact item(s) you want including model number(s)
- The country you live in
- What your preferred payment methods are
- A brief statement on why you want the item (for example, spares etc)

Any post that does not contain all these details will be DELETED - If you can't give any of the details above for any reason STATE WHY in your post.

Happy transactions, and remember that the Zaurus User Group or anyone directly affiliated with it take no responsability for any item(s) posted here for Sale or for Wanted, the responsability lies directly with the post creator.

Edit: Unpinned this post and storing it for historical reasons. Varti

Security and Networking / We need CPR for this forum!
« on: December 16, 2003, 09:02:25 am »
Well this section of the forum has been here for quite a while and still it has cobwebs, time to brush them away I think.

The Zaurus, is it secure or not? Why is it/isn\'t it?

Comments please.

I have something in store for you all that will most probably please and will probably get Sash\'s attention too so he may include it in the next ROM...

More later today... I have to apply for a job first before I finish it off but it was a result of insomnia (whoever says insomnia is a bad thing obviously isn\'t a perfectionist coder :roll:)

Cxx0 General discussions / Default LCD Phase & COM ADJ values?
« on: December 12, 2003, 08:40:31 pm »
I have a confession, when I first got my Zaurus C760 I played around with the Diag Menu... (Heh are you telling me you didn\'t?)

When I did this I messed up the COM ADJ and LCD Phase values by pressing the \"-5 UPDATE\" on-screen button not realising it was updating / storing the value. I was stupid not to heed warnings about this menu having the ability to fsck up one\'s pride, but heh you don\'t learn anything without experimenting huh?

When I had Qtopia on my Cxx0 I was able to roughly get the settings back to what appeared normal, but now I use the X11 ROM it\'s more noticable that there is still significant \"ghosting\" on my C760\'s LCD (especially noticable when flashing the X11 ROM in the text-based menu system). I have tried tweaking the values slightly to see if I could get a better \"reception\" (teehee) but my luck has run out as of late.

My question is this, does anyone know the default/stock values for these 2 settings? I would like my C760\'s screen to be as clear as possible.
