Sharp ROMs / Screen Blanker For Cacko?
« on: January 13, 2006, 05:01:49 am »
I recently got the fantastic shoutcast stream browser running under Cacko on my C3000. Only feature it is missing is an option (like under Kino2) to turn the screen off whilst the program is running. I presume there is a little app out there that will do this for me so I wouldn't have to load Kino2 just to do that?

C1000/3x00 Hardware / 320x240 Sdl Under Cacko Console / Gp2x Mame Port
« on: January 08, 2006, 07:03:46 pm »
I've tried a few SDL games and emulators under Cacko 1.23b on my C3000, but none of them would work under the console, the one you reach by pushing the / key on boot, I had to run them all from under konsole under QT. On top of that, I could only get them (Quake, SNES9x, Doom, DGen) to run in 640x480 so the picture only took up a fraction of the screen except for under SNES9X which allows you to zoom the image.

Can I run SDL progs under the console under Cacko 1.23b/C3000 without running on top of Qtopia?

Can I run them at 320x240?

Is there a way to overclock from the console?

I'm asking because I'd really love to see GP2X MAME ported to Cacko but I'm not going to bother trying unless I know I can run it under a non-QT console in 320x240 for optimal performance.

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Anyone Got These Running Under Beta1?
« on: January 03, 2006, 06:34:23 am »
Just a few questions for those lucky enough to have beta 1 installed:

How well does KDE run on the 3100? Overclocked?

KO/PI with wake on alarm (either embedded or full KDE)? This is my most wanted feature for pdaxrom.

Kword and Kspread - Do they run OK?

MAME - Never got this working under Cacko. Could I run it from the console w/ bvdd + sdl or is bvdd only supported under X?

Can Quake be ran from the console too?

Anybody got k3b to burn a DVD on their Zaurus??

Angstrom & OpenZaurus / Oz Status On C3000
« on: December 31, 2005, 10:56:34 am »
I'm currently running Cacko 1.23b on my C3000 but I'm very interested in OZ/Opie. Before I re-flash though I'd like to know a few things-

What hardware is/ isn't  supported? There seems to be conflicting information on this on these two sites:

http://www.rpsys.net/openzaurus/

which links to

http://www.orca.cx/zaurus/

The second link (outdated?) says that stuff like the keyboard, touchscreen and sound aren't working.

Is OZ considered stable yet?

Apps. There doesn't seem to be a link to any apps page on the OZ homepage, but I've heard OZ can run most software for the Sharp/Cacko roms? 100% compatibility?

Hancom Word/Sheet (or better office software!) and presentation
ko/pi
kino2
mplayer/ zplayer/ bvdd

Do these run fine?

Would I still be able to link my Z to my PC and have the C3000 internal HD mount as a USB removeable disc under OZ?

Any other issues I should be aware of?

Thanks!

Sharp ROMs / Kword And Kspread Ports For Qtopia/ Oz
« on: December 28, 2005, 09:51:35 pm »
I see that Korganiser and Kommander (a KDE file manager) have been ported to the microkde libs/ Qtopia so why not KWord and kSpread? Can microkde not handle these?

If no-one is going to step up to this then we should take action. Maybe we could petition Sharp to pull their weight and sponsor such a project? One of the most common (the #1?) criticisms of the Zaurus lies within Hancom offices many shortcomings, basic things like proper 'Save As' functions and a spell checker. Sharp would be freeing themselves of having to continue to license Hancom office, bestow and great gift upon existing users, very likely sell more Zaurii and get some good PR in the process - everyone wins!

If Sharp aren't convined (?) then we need to to find an experienced QT coder or 5 who'd be willing to give it a shot. Maybe we could set up a fund for both programs to which Z users could donate to, bounties could be set.

I know there is Textmaker but the demo failed to install/run properly on my C3000 and its commercial software. Textmaker looks like it could be very good but I'd much rather see a fully featured, GPL word processor and spreadsheet for the Z, wouldn't you?

Maybe I should post this on the koffice mailing list too?

PS I presume that if something is wrote for Qtopia it can be easily run (or compiled to run) under OZ?

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Audacity, Zynaddsubfx, Seq24, Specimen And Porting
« on: December 28, 2005, 09:17:04 pm »
zynaddsubfx - http://zynaddsubfx.sourceforge.net/

Is an amazing multichannel, realtime 'analogue' synthesiser with fx using an FLTK gui. Does CXX00 range, overclocked, have enuff processing umph to run this? I need to find out!

seq24 - http://www.filter24.org/seq24/

fantastic, slimline GTK MIDI sequencer

specimen - http://gazuga.net/

virtual sampler, GTK based

audacity - http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Great wave editor

So, the idea is we get these ported to pdaXrom for a neat litle portable music making machine! I presume I'd be able to even get a USB MIDI adapter working with my C3000 (when the pdaXrom port gets finished) for the icing on the cake? I'm pretty sure thought that seq24 and specimen need ALSA, is this a problem?

I'm new to the world of the Zaurus and cross-compilng, so I've got a few questions:

Can I run pdaXrom binaries under X/QT (under Cacko)?

How big of a performance hit is there when running stuff under X/QT as compared to pdaXrom?

Could I get a Debian ARM binaries for these and run them under X/QT or pdaXrom?

iWMMX - Is it only programs that were coded to use MMX that can make use of this or can any multimedia prog be compiled with iwmmx and see performance gains?

Thanks for your help!
