Nice One! This one written on mine sitting on a deckchair, on the roof, in Oxford, with the sun trying vainly to come out...

Software / Kde-pim/pi 2.1.0 Available!

Does anybody have KO/PI running on a modern Linux system?   It looks like it hasn't been updated in awhile, and it won't compile on Fedora 5 for me.

IIRC, you need to use gcc 2.95.

gcc 3.x or 4.x fails.

General Discussion / Comparison Of C700/750, C860 And C3x00

Is there anyone in Bristol who has a C series I could have a look at? I have never seen one in real life.

A bit far from bonny Devon, but I'm in Oxford, if that's any help, with a C3100.

Software / Icon Missing After Installing
« on: May 17, 2007, 03:59:27 am »
Hi,

You probably need to restart your X server. The icons will then appear under the 'Office' Tab, or menu option. They certainly do for me.

I'll try and get hold of a couple today. Maybe shipping to Oz won't be too bad...

enodr,

Have you uploaded the ipk of this anywhere yet? I have not yet got my build system up and running since changing jobs, so an ipk would be very useful to me.

If not, could you post it here so I can try it out?

Cheers,

Alistair

General Discussion / Sl-c1000 Portability
« on: February 01, 2007, 01:43:27 pm »
I bought a belt clip case from Nutshell in New Zealand as soon as I got my 3100 early last year. It's pretty good fit, and even copes with my Ambicom WiFi card which I leave in most of the time, with a socket BT card residing in the front pocket...

It's a 'Nutshell 211' and cost me ~£30 last year.

Also if anyone's interested, I made a little Perspex deskstand for it as well.

See the attached piccies of the case & stand...

Zaurus - pdaXrom / Zaurus Serial Port
« on: October 26, 2006, 04:30:01 am »
Hi,

This looks to be a convertor board to allow the serial port on the SL-Cxxx range to meet the correct specs for RS232 communications, as unlike the SL-5xxx range the serial port does not comply fully with the RS232 spec.

https://www.oesf.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=16409

AFAICT, the circuit is correct, using a standard Maxim chip. I used to use something similar on Microchip PIC systems. Though it may drain the zaurus battery rather quickly!!

Alistair

Hi,

Had a fiddle with my C3100 now.

Got it talking to a Cisco PIX via my SUB->Serial adaptor using minicom on /dev/ttyUSB0.

Can't find my old 5500 serial cable...

Alistair

Hi,

When I first got my SL-C3100, I did 'prove a concept' of an emergency console by both of the following methods:

1. Use a USB->serial adaptor on a USB host cable

2. Get hold of a CE-170TS Serial Cable from a Sl-5x00 and plug it into the port on the back (covered up with a handy little dust cover). IIRC this is not <true> rs232 levels, so may not work with some serial devices. Worked OK for me on a Cisco PIX & a 3com 3300 switch though...

You can then use minicom or another serial terminal app. Have not got my Zaurus here today, so can't check what /dev each comes under.

Sharp ROMs / Wireless Card Issues In Cacko 1.23
« on: October 13, 2006, 12:03:48 pm »
I had the same problem which drove me nuts for a few weeks.

Finally solved it with :

Edit /etc/pcmcia/network.opts as follows :

Change CARDSUSPEND=y to CARDSUSPEND=n

Works fine on my C3100 with Cacko 1.23 with an AmicomWL1100C-CF

Cheers,

Alistair
