[WANTED] Sharp Zaurus SL-C1000 or similar

Looking to purchase a Sharp Zaurus SL-C1000.  Sadly I sold mine many years ago and would like to relive the Zaurus.  I'd be interested in the SL-C1000 or any clamshell model with VGA resolution.

Located in Texas, United States.  I can pay via the usual methods, PayPal, Venmo, etc.

General Discussion / What Are Recommended Video Encoding Settings?
« on: January 02, 2007, 01:54:19 am »
Alright thanks.  I will be encoding on my Windows box with Vemode.  Pretty much all of this is gonna be anime.  I normally overclock.  I'll try to do some testing tomorrow .  Can the Zaurus handle AAC files?  Cause thats kinda not legal without a license.  TCPMP had an AAC plugin for a while but Apple told them to cease and desist with that.   Some of my videos do have AAC audio.

This was probably answered somewhere before but whatever.  What would you say are the recommended settings for reencoding videos for my SL-C1000 having the highest quality.  I'd like to keep it VGA cause it's so beautiful on the Zaurus.  Whats the best codec to use on the Zaurus?(probably least processor intensive)  File size isn't much of an issue.  I have 4gb to play with.

Videos will play better on my Palm T|3 than my Zaurus.  Zaurus shows video wonderfully on the screen but playback is slow and sucky with lots of freezing.  Cresho's modified Kino2 files helped a lot but not enough.

Mac Issues / How Many Of You Are Recent Switchers?

I bought the last model of Apple iBooks.  14" 1.42ghz Apple iBook G4 with superdrive.

I needed a laptop.  I decided to get an Apple one.  I already have a desktop with Linux and Windows.  A desktop is gonna be better than any laptop anyway.  I wanted a laptop that was low maintenance and I always wanted to get an Apple so I got the iBook with Mac OS X Tiger.  I love it.  I do quite a bit of video editing on here with Final Cut Pro.  There are lots of open source software for Mac OS X as well.  Battery life on this thing is kick ass too.  6 hours!  And I done it before.

Do I have any regrets?  No.  I just wish I could use x86 Linux on this thing.  (I tried PowerPC Linux on my iBook.  Just a total lack of support and community.  Also no Flash player.)

Cresho, you rock!  I went and used the newest version of Kino2 and there was a ton of lag.  Then I went to use your version of Kino2 and it ran so much better on my SL-CK.

I still had better performance on my Tapwave Zodiac though

I decided to go back to Cacko.  Cacko was more simple and just worked better as a PDA.  Also pdaXrom acted funny sometimes.(beta of course)

Sorry guys.  I might come back when there are newer version out

Hardware Mods / Video Out
« on: November 04, 2006, 01:25:18 am »
I saw someone suggest a video out mod for the Zaurus.  I would love to have this to play movies on a TV screen.

I tried to dig up this post but couldn't find it.  Any news on how to do this?  I'm good at soldering.

VeMode works great for video converting.

DVD ripper -> VeMode -> SD card.

I just installed Firefox from my SD card to my Zaurus.  How can I get it to have an icon in the Internet folder?

loji's has been working on a very nice guide for beta3: http://www.thesounddesign.com/zaurus/beta3.htm

Meanie's page is a classic: http://www.users.on.net/~hluc/myZaurus/custom-pdaxrom.html
(pity to see "This page is discontinued ...")

For GAIM, try to launch it from the terminal and see what errors the app has.

Thanks so much for the links.  They seem to be very helpful.  The feeds still don't come through.  I have followed the instructions to fix the package manager.  But nothing, the log says it couldn't retrieve it.

Gaim seems to have had a problem with one of the lib files.  I'm not too concerned right now.

Sorry for sounding a little noobish but there seems to be "little" documentation for pdaXrom.

I went through a lot of whats there on their site and on this forum.  I'm having trouble getting the feed to work.  I added the feed that I know is up but how can I get the list?

Also Gaim won't launch.

My wireless card and my USB mouse worked flawlessly.

Beta 3 doesn't come with U-Boot.  Would I need that?

I'm a Cacko user and haven't tried pdaXrom before.  I'd like to start using it.  I know how to flash my ROM but is there anything I should know as being a Cacko user.
