Zaurus - pdaXrom / Pdaxrom Beta4 - Prism2-hostap Wifi Fixed.
« on: May 15, 2006, 07:55:14 am »
This patch will allow PdaXrom 1.1.0 beta4 to use Prism2 based wifi CF cards. It includes the files needed to load the firmware into the card on insertion.

1) run the following in a terminal:
Code: [Select]
cd /
tar -zxf pdaxrom_beta4_prism2_firmware_loader_patch.tar.gz
2) Insert the CF wifi card. (firmware will be automatically loaded)
3) Configure the wlan0 interface as usual.

I hope this is helpful to others.

Note: This does not currently work with the newest kernel posted by Sashz for beta4.

IIRC, you can change this behaviour with "alsamixer": Disable the mono speaker or a similar option to mute the speaker but not the headphone socket. Changing this was done automatically by the last kernel.
I'll confirm this later.

Suspend works so well, I really don't want to leave 2.6!
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=126903\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]
Does that mean it's instant off, rather than go-and-make-a-cup-of-tea off?

Also, a question I asked earlier: is there any video acceleration hardware in the 7x0/8x0 models?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=126915\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I'm afraid I find the suspend as bad a it was before on my C1000, you press the button to suspend and then the press the button to resume which results in the split second flash of the screen followed by suspension again.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=126919\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

I find it to be perfect. I push the power button ...even at the console... and it turns off instantly. Then if I push it again, it turns on within a second or too. Lovely.

i did everything like the guide said but after flashing it gives my alot of JFFS errors and then it panic saying that there is no init passed to the kernel.
what i do?
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=126924\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

It sounds like something has not worked correctly, I've reflashed about 4 times already, it's worked each time.

Try downloading the files again (they may be corrupt), and try reflashing from the start again.
If this fails, i'm really not sure what is broken. Maybe the SD card or the Z's NAND? Which Z model?

Hi, I've been testing this out for a while now.
I can't load firmware into my wifi card because prism2_srec wasn't included in this rom.
I'm not sure if that was intended or where I should get it.
I've copied a version from OZ, but it wont run because the libc in beta4 is too old... i'll keep playing.

Also, USB gadget devices seem to not work in this beta.

I'll keep playing with this. Suspend works so well, I really don't want to leave 2.6!
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=126903\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

USB network device on default with IP 192.168.129.201. It works fine for me.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=126908\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

My desktop linux just doesn't see the Z when I modprobe g_ether. EDIT: g_file_storage doesn't seem to work for me either.
lsusb on the desktop doesn't show the Z at all.
If I use beta2, then it works fine. EDIT: using the udc thing.

Can anybody offer some advice for using prism2 cards on this beta?

Quick status update from Sash - he has fixed the exit bugs and a couple of other small things. He is working on look & feel and wifi utils - and is hoping that he also has time to fix the card storage kernel module today too.

So there you have it - he is working hard ...

Thank you so much! I really appreciate everybody's hard work.
Does anybody know where firmware for hostap wifi CF should be placed for this beta?

EDIT: It looks like lots of the required stuff for hostap to work has been left out of this. beta, like hostap_cs.conf in /etc/pcmcia.
Does anybody know of a package I could install to get this, or how I can fix it? I'll experiment in the mean time,

Hopefully more on-topic:
Has anybody figured out why the screen becomes so dim and can't be made more bright with "setfl 6"?
Also, Has the Shift and FN keys as left and right mouse button modifiers swapped?
FN-screen tap now seems to be the middle mouse button.
I had the same headphone issue on OZ, maybe a deamon neads to be written to fix this?
Is there any work in progress on new applets for CPU control, lan-wifi, USB etc, would it be helpful if I had a crack at these for the 2.6 kernel?

Sashz, This is fantastic, I //really// like suspend working so well!

hi
it works, but i need fix "user stuff" before release. Hope finish it on this weekend.
[div align=\"right\"][a href=\"index.php?act=findpost&pid=125924\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

Would you be able to include the binfmt_misc module with this kernel please. This would be very helpful and cool, so my Z can run (slowly) pretty much any i386 software automatically. (using QEMU)

Out of interest sake, if you open a shell, and type 'top', what is the top few processes?
Also, in 'top' sort by total CPU usage (I think you press 'T', or 't' in it), and see what is the few highest CPU hoggers.

I'm just wondering if there is something other than the idle task chewing up resources?

I have a similar problem on my 3100, I've checked top frequently and it is just kapmidled using up the spare CPU. I think the problem may lie with the suspend. I often find when I suspend my Z the HDD LED comes on and stays on whilst the Z is off (even after lots of reflashes/tinkering/playing with partitions and swap). When I resume it, the LED returns to it's normal state.

I have a feeling that the suspend on pdaXrom may be using more power than normal somehow. Is this possible?

I'm still using beta2.

thsanks to your script and files I managed to get my card to work.

Is there a less techie solution?
[div align=\"right\"][{POST_SNAPBACK}][/a][/div]

There is a very easy solution for this (and similar) wireless cfs.

1) mkdir /etc/pcmcia/firmware

2) copy pm010102.hex from [a href=\"http://www.red-bean.com/~proski/firmware/primary.tar.bz2]http://www.red-bean.com/~proski/firmware/primary.tar.bz2[/url] to the new folder.

3) copy rf010804.hex from http://www.red-bean.com/~proski/firmware/1.8.4.tar.bz2 to the new folder.

now plug the card in... WORKS  (or unplug/replug)
