Cosmo Communicator - Hardware / Re: Battery replacement experience
« Last post by ZimbiX on January 31, 2024, 08:59:22 pm »
The battery I ordered on ebay never arrived btw, so I got a refund on 26 Apr 2022. They said they were sad it didn't arrive and didn't have a replacement to send, so could only offer a refund.

I haven't used my Cosmo since I got my Astro, so it's not a problem for me anymore. But now my Astro's battery is getting a little long in the tooth too =P

Cosmo Communicator - Linux / Re: Wrong keyboard mapping on login?
« Last post by yangzepa on January 29, 2024, 01:20:25 am »
to all koreans or other unsupported keyboard users,
we have to fix the file /usr/share/X11/xkb/symbols/planet_vndr/cosmo file.

since Korean language (hangul) has issue about character separation, we may not add additional group like Japanese.

open the 'cosmo' file with kwrite or any editor, and just add this part anywhere

xkb_symbols "kr" {
    include "planet_vndr/cosmo(modifiers)"
    include "planet_vndr/cosmo(common_keys)"

    name[Group1]="Cosmo English (KR)";

    key <AE01>  { [         1,      exclam,   asciitilde,    F1 ] };
    key <AE02>  { [         2,          at,        grave,    F2 ] };
    key <AE03>  { [         3,  numbersign,    backslash,    F3 ] };

    //key <LALT>  { symbols[Group1] = [ Alt_L, Alt_L, ISO_Last_Group,   ISO_Last_Group ] };
};

and, type it in "setxkbmap -model planetcosmo -layout kr" in Konsole (terminal), and we're good to use special characters in korean printed layout.
we better use fcitx-hangul or uim (not ibus: QT version issue, enter key and backspace key will show error) for preventing split characters.

is there any lists for the XKBLAYOUT? since you adopted the gb / de / us, however I've tried 'kr' but no luck.

Hey, i also noticed that with my AstroSlide after updating to V7. I found a possible solution (worked for me): Turn of the automatic brightness in the display settings.

Good luck!

Cosmo Communicator - Android / Front (small) screen not working
« Last post by Greg T on January 07, 2024, 06:21:23 am »
Hello, my original-issue Cosmo Communicator front/entry screen has just died ....

I was working normally at about 13.00 yesterday, but when I picked it up at about 18.00, the small exterior front screen was showing what appeared to be very tiny, coloured letters, in rows, diminishing towards the top of the screen.
Restarting, etc has had no effect.
I can still make & receive calls, but I can only operate the phone if I open it & then navigate round the options
I know you sometimes do repairs from your "office" near Sloane Sq & I think I need this facility.

I would emphasize that I have not dropped the phone, nor done anything unusual between it working perfectly & the front-screen failing

Please help?

Okay I'm able to get adb and logcat running, and I think this snippet of messages may relate to what's going on here:

Astro Slide - General Discussion / Astro screen randomly shutting off
« Last post by mrjpaxton on January 04, 2024, 01:39:16 am »
Hey guys, I'm having a weird bug with the Astro where the screen sometimes turns off randomly. Can happen whenever I'm scrolling or just after scrolling, it seems. Anyone else had that problem?

It actually just started happening more recently, like after a year of using it.

It will still show up when I do "adb devices" over USB. I would try getting "adb shell" then "logcat", but it's hard because it says the phone is not authorized, and the screen is turning off randomly, but also predictably sometimes (if that makes any sense) making it hard and frustrating to use the device properly. Any ideas?

Cosmo Communicator - Android / Does the Gemini OS/rooting work with the Cosmo?
« Last post by skitz0 on December 31, 2023, 09:16:44 am »
I've had the CC for ½ a years now and ever month I take it out to attempt to root it or at the very least update it. I got it to have as a Linux phone but if I can't even get Android root there no hope for any nix install. There's loads of tools/information on the Gemini, I'm hoping maybe they might work with the CC? I know when it comes to my other Androids I had to have the exact build for that exact model but unless there's a workaround or a special way to dd it, no matter how I copy/extract/adb push the Cosmo-customos-installer with multiple microSD cards I always get
supported API : 3
E:/bin/sh failed with status 126
can't find custom installers in SD card error 127!
if anyone has a way to somehow get around this, could care less if it's destructive or brickable the thing is pretty much worthless running Android 9...nothing can be updated majority of the apps I use can't be installed... problem after problem after problem
