Zaurus - Arch Linux ARM support / Re: Wifi On Zalarm
« Last post by Varti on August 30, 2021, 03:37:09 am »
Hello Varti,

I don't see any problems with -dd (too much for manual copying ;-)), but I get an authentication error.

It works with an unsecured WiFi. I tested 3 different CF WIFI cards with the same result.
So, at least it's connecting when no security is used. Can you see from the log what authentication protocol is the card trying to use? Is it WPA2, or the older WPA or WEP? If it's one of the latter two, your router might reject the connection as they're too old and unsecure.

I switched to Void Linux. I got a kenel dump on Arch, when I started Pacman-Syu (on the 1000 and 3100).
The crash might be due to insufficient free memory. I had similar crashes on my 1000 which I have solved by creating a swap partition and activating the swap memory. This step is required under both alarmz and voidz, as the onboard 64MB isn't enough even for the most basic operations. Anyway, unless you specifically need Arch Linux, I'd suggest you to use Void, as it's lighter and faster.

Zaurus - Hardware discussion / Re: Sharp SL-C1000 SDHC support
« Last post by Varti on August 30, 2021, 03:21:24 am »
There's an updated SDHC driver for stock Sharp ROM/Cacko which supports SD cards upto 32 GB, though bigger sizes might be supported too:
http://petit-noise.net/download/sdhc-driver

Related thread here: https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?topic=27186.0

Alternatively, both alarmz (Arch Linux ARM) and voidz (Void Linux) support SDHC/SDXC cards, I have installed both OSes on a 64GB card and they both booted without problems. These distros are shell only, though. Older OSes such as Amstrong or OpenBSD might support them too, and might be able to run a desktop environment too.

I have now fixed the links. Please let me know if you find any more broken link you'll like to get fixed. I'll try today to fix all the broken links pointing to threads/posts in the same forum, I'll let you know once this will be done. The forum will have to be offline for a couple of minutes for the replace operation to take place.

I try to access the tutorial links, but they bring me to the frontpage of this website.

I guess they are dead. Does anybody save these tutorials and willing to share?

Thanks,
Peter.

Zaurus - Hardware discussion / Sharp SL-C1000 SDHC support
« Last post by fy7890 on August 28, 2021, 10:38:32 pm »
Hi all,

I recently acquired a used SL-C1000 from Japan, and it only supports SD card,
which has a limit of 2GB, and the cards are expensive.

I tried to browse through this forum, but most file links are
dead due to its age.

Do you know any way to add support for SDHC card or SDXC cards?
Which Linux distro will natively support SDHC/SDXC?
Or is there some driver I can download?

Thanks for your input in advance,
Peter.

Cosmo Communicator - CoDi / Re: What does 'broken' CoDi icon mean?

I think you may be able to downgrade with a manual update described here:
https://support.planetcom.co.uk/index.php/Latest_Cosmo_Firmware#Manual_CoDi_firmware_update
https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?topic=36139.0
but I haven't had to try it myself.  The version on the webpage appears to be v14, I'm not sure how you would get hold of v15.  Also, what OS and version are you using, is the firmware on the Cosmo itself up to date?
From memory updating the CoDi firmware has always been entertaining for some, I think when the update is being applied the data passes down the same bus as is used for normal data like notifications etc (or something like that), so it easily gets corrupted unless you go to flight mode, do not disturb, don't breathe for 20 minutes, etc, I wonder if your update to v16 got corrupted on the way through.  There's a reasonable amount of discussion on the CoDi sub forum:
https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?board=214.0
and quite a few of the subjects involve flashing.  I think it just may take the right settings (flight mode, etc) a bit of persistence.

Congrats for your new Zaurus! I don't have the 3200's CD, but I have a copy of the 3000's one, and I have found the IPK you're searching for, find it attached here:

Gemini PDA - Linux / Re: upgrading linux on gemini

@depscribe--have you seen this, for phone capability?

https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?topic=36582.0

cam1965 is a go-to user with this stuff and he seems to have his Gem up and running, phone-wise.

I like Stretch just fine on my all-linux Gem, but I'm not using a sim card. I know geminifrench, another wizard, at least has data working on his Stretch.

So I think it can be done, though any linux phone as your daily driver could present its challenges.

I actually prefer Stretch to Buster (Buster's on my Cosmo).
