Belt cases for Astro?
« on: October 29, 2022, 11:13:05 am »
With Cosmo, we had a thread before: https://www.oesf.org/forum/index.php?topic=35844 - I got myself a case from eBay and have been generally happy with it.

Astro is slightly less wide than Cosmo, but bigger in the other dimensions (although that 1.4 mm difference in height could probably be worked around by Using the Force - leather is flexible). However, since it's also thicker, that will probably be a problem.

Astro Dimensions: 172.4 x 76.5 x 18.7mm
Cosmo Dimensions 171 x 79.3 x 17.3mm

So...any ideas on where to get a suitable belt case for this (that would allow horizontal placement?).

No, I still do not have the device. It's been at "contribution locked" since August and Planet has been giving pretty much useless or no updates at all, but I'm trying to remain positive that I'll get the darn thing soon, so starting to look into this as well.

I don't know why, but it seems that these are *much* easier to find. The hardest attribute is the thickness, a lot of even "XL" cases only go to 1.5 cm or so.

But e.g.

https://www.amazon.de/-/en/Horizontal-Premium-Genuine-Leather-Holster/dp/B08ZXH4LDG/ref=psdc_364918031_t2_B084M83CDQ?th=1

Looks pretty good.

Size: 17 x 8.3 x 2 cm.

look this https://www.amazon.de/DFVmobile-Genuine-Leather-Computers-Communicator-Black/dp/B0831V91B1/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?crid=KS17W2RLL98B&keywords=dfv+mobile+cosmo+kommunikator&qid=1667247219&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIxLjY1IiwicXNhIjoiMC4wMCIsInFzcCI6IjAuMDAifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=dfv+mobilecosmo+communicator%2Caps%2C320&sr=8-7

A bit oversized - that's more like a full-blown fanny pack for your wallet and everything. I just need the case for the phone itself (since it so darn big, it doesn't exactly fit in a pocket). My wallet and keys still fit quite well into my pockets :)

Maybe this: not in stock. Check the dimensions ( I think it is external ) .

I got this one today, and Cosmo fits there quite snugly. I'm sure after a bit of usage the leather will stretch a bit. Astro is 1 mm longer but that's probably not going to be a major issue..

Missing Asto Leather Pouch: I use my old Psion possibilities, the practical Leather pouch with place for business cards and the (coming?) stylus. And for optimal shelter: the PalmTec hard case for Psion. The Astro fits optimal.

Now that it's been a while... The case I bought has been working with my Astro quite well. It's a thick device, so it's a *very* tight fit, but since leather stretches just a bit, now after using it for a week it's actually quite usable. However, if astro were just 1 mm wider, I don't think it would fit anymore...but I'm very happy with what I got!

Following the recommendations of each other, I ordered this protection :

https://psionex.co.uk/s5-lcase-1.html

I hope it will adapt well to my future Astro which I should receive in a year or two (contribution N°105XX). For 25€ delivered, I did not take too big a risk.
