Printing from a Z?
« on: January 22, 2004, 12:02:41 am »
Running through at trying to get my new 5600 to do everything I need/want, I\'ve run into printing. It seems to be missing. I\'ve read some posts about copying or beaming text to the ir port. But I\'ve seen and found nothing about true printing from a Z? I can understand how difficult it would be to supply printing services to programs that don\'t have it built -in. But this is linux. Isn\'t there some way to mount a network printer? Even if it\'s just for ascii output from the clipboard... It seems a bit odd to me that noone (that I have found) has tackled this. Certainly beyond my capabilities at the moment. But someone out there with the capabilities must need printing?
Or have I just missed something very obvious???
Anyone have a clue how I could print to a network printer???
Thanks!

Sometimes it just takes a better search...
So far I have found this:

\"LPRng
Implements LPD (Line Printer Daemon).  Talks to other LPD servers, or directly to LPD-compliant printers (most print servers and networked printers).
I\'ve added a -6 version that *should* work better when installing on something other than RAM (CF and SD). Since I start flying symlinks all over the place, BACK UP YOUR Z BEFORE INSTALLING. I take no responsiblity, blah blah blah....
lprng_3.8.15-2_arm.ipk
lprng_3.8.15-6_arm.ipk \"

located at: http://www.wayga.org/ipkg/

I haven\'t tried it yet, but am looking into it. At least there\'s something out there...

Thanks for those links. Interesting reading and good to know people are working on it.
Odd thing though. I searched there and found nothing. After reading the threads, I tried a search again, and found nothing... Okay, the page says to read the faqs & help files... Maybe it\'s time to try that ;-)

Yes, I had problems too. Perhaps it found too much data and only returned the latest X amount. It was just the fact that I knew it was there.....

I\'m not sure that anything is being done about it now though, the links are all reasonably old I think.
