Zaurus News Site?
« on: December 07, 2005, 08:39:54 am »
Hello,

If you get a chance please check out an email I sent Shaun of PDA 247:
http://www.clieuk.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=4084

I expressed my concers about the oesf community but it didn't make it into the orig topic, so I posted this:
"Neil and I were talking and my only concern with a forum was that the https://www.oesf.org/forums forum is a great place to go and I wouldn't want to do anything to damage that community. Perhaps the focus of a Zaurus forum on this 247 site could be towards late-breaking Zaurus news/information and have it a level that someone unfamiliar with the zaurus would understand. The OESF forum is great but n00bs can get lost pretty quick and finding things can be difficult. Perhaps the forums goal should be to attract new Zaurus users and be a quick news resource for existing Zaurus users."

First off I don't want to duplicate what the OESF group is/does.

Secondly I'm interested in what you folks think of the idea:
"Perhaps the forums goal should be to attract new Zaurus users and be a quick news resource for existing Zaurus users."
There is a lot of great Zaurus user created pages on the web (Meanie, bam, etc) but a news site of sorts that would give people up-to-date news and have info that might attract more users to the Zaurus community might be needed. Shaun has a lot of people coming to his 247 sites and I wanted to help them discover a "third?" PDA option.

Thirdly I was wondering if others would like to help (if this ever takes off).

I realize I might get some negative feedback for doing something like this, but I'm interested in what people think, even if it's negative.

Well, I'm not a (Zaurus or Linux) n00b, but neither am I a developer, programmer, or even very much of a hacker (yet), which is why I come here (to learn useful hacks & tweaks). Being a sl55000 only user, while the focus here seems to lean more and more towards clamshell models, I am always looking for additional (but not alternatives) to this forum. I have learned much here and almost always check in daily to see if there is anything of interest and there usually is. I think it is wise and in the open source spirit to become an additional resource as you have suggested, rather than an alternative.

Viking 512GB  CF card

It's always a good idea to have more places to discuss Zaurus.  Yet for me personally diversification is never a bad thing in this forum.
I'm no hacker or guru, but let's fact it.  Hackers are hackers.  Users and users.  n00bs are n00bs (actually I really look forward to seeing more n00bs using Z instead of hackers only  ).  Each leads a very different life.  There isn't much point to oblige any hacker to teach what he considers to be common sense to n00bs.  Nor is it very sensible to force n00bs to become hackers.  Still many users just have to concentrate on more 'real' application issues than tweaking and hacking things (well of course I won't deny that this is part of the real fun of having a Z  ).  A spirit of sharing is what brings us together here.  Only my 0.002 cent.
