Flashing Troubles... 5500 + 3.5.3
« on: April 14, 2005, 03:34:51 pm »
Hey everyone... having a little bit of a problem flashing my SL-5500...

I put the initrd.bin and zImage.bin (opie + 48/16) on my cf card, a lexar 4x 128mb card.  Popped it in my Zaurus, reset + c + d, and both lights come on solid.  Good so far.  However, its only doing that for 2-3 minutes before the lights go out - I'm pretty damn sure, considering what I've read also, that it should take 5+ minutes to  flash.  So anyway, I reset, close the cover, and start it up, and the Sharp logo comes up. Thats it.

I've tried another cf card (which happens to be the same brand/model), different roms, and so on.  I'm 99% sure this is the card I used to flash it WAAAAYYY back when, about 2yrs ago or so.

Anyone have any ideas?

If you're thinking that card is the problem, any ideas on a cheapo? I'll stop at CompUSA real quick and pick up a 16 or a 32mb card if its pretty competent for flashing, and you seem reasonably sure thats the issue.

Thanks

Card is fine, Sharp logo comes up because the kernel (zImage) hasn't flashed correctly.

Probably because for the collie (5500/5000D) machines, it has to be called zImage (no .bin extension).

If renaming doesn't help it (and I reckon it will), chack the md5sums of the files too.

Same problem here. My previous ROM was thekompany's and it's still that Logo that comes up. there is no problem the files and I've named them correctly.... I'll try 3.5.2 just out of interest.

Any success yourself si ?

I've not dug out my 5500 to flash, but my c750 is running 3.5.3 quite happily.

What machine do you have dukeinlondon? Bear in mind that the flashing instructions are different for each machine.

If you're having troubles post some more info, and make sure you've checked the md5sums (to ensure that it wasn't a corrupt download)

No luck yet. the md5s were wrong (just the initrd) and I can't manage to get a connection that doesn't drop after a while, before the end of the download.

Will try tomorrow.

Considering the rather long list of problems on the 5500, i won't be installing this.
SL-5500 with tkc 2.0 Alpha 3.0 (/home on SD)
Kingston 256MB SD Card
Fujifilm 128MB CF Card
Wisgo 802.11b CF Wireless LAN Card
XP Pro, Redhat 7.3

What long list? Someone not following instructions correctly and another person with a corrupted download...?

It wasn't a problem with OZ.  PICNIC.  Problem In Chair, Not In Computer.  Since overcoming my simple yet blatant stupidity, I have stopped playing with it.... very happy to be out of the Sharp rom again.
