ext2 formatted SD card shows as "full" when only a

After formatting a 256M SD card to ext2, I can only transfer about 50 M of files to the card, before I get told it\'s full.  Looking at the file in Linux using Krusader, it tells me it\'s only about 20% full.  Anyone had this problem?

The card fills up great when VFAT formatted.
