Erratic Stylus On Rc9 And C700 When Networking
« on: July 01, 2005, 02:17:30 pm »
RC9 flashed fine on my C700 with 45MB root and no tweaking whatsoever.

It runs also fine until I insert a network card. At this very moment the stylus behaviour becomes very erratic -- clicks are misplaced close to 30 pixels to the left and click-and-hold results in constant jumping of the stylus pointer left and right to the actual point. Also, it seems like applications start and refresh slower. Removing the card immediately restores the fine behaviour.

All cards are recognized properly, work fine and there is (almost -- see below) nothing in dmesg to suggest any problem. This was confirmed with two Xircom CompactCard Ethernet CFE-10 cards, one Pretec WLAN card and one Intel PRO/Wireless 2011b card.

Only when I insert one of the Xircom cards receive I some indication of a problem:
Code: [Select]
pxa_pcmcia_init(0)
eth0: NE2000 Compatible: io 0xf6000300, irq 39, hw_addr 00:10:A4:06:8B:A7
eth0: Too much work at interrupt, status 0x22
eth0: Too much work at interrupt, status 0x88

A search on this message and keywords in the forums and the Internet did not provide any clue. I could only find some references to calibration not working under certain conditions on the C700.

Is that true, is this a C700-only problem?
What else might I look at?

Many thanks.

Bad form to answer one's own post, but could not hold the joy any longer.

Overclocking the PXA-250 to 471 MHz helped a lot.
Doing it on RC10 works too.
Impact on games/movies not known yet.
