There's something wry and amusing about watching the posts that get no play...But you've touched on something here. It really should be easier to do what you're trying to do. There is no "wifi scanner" app within pdaxrom, per se, but there really should be!
How you find networks depends on which driver you're using. Maybe you're using hostap.
