is your sd formatted as ext2?
do you have enough space?
do you have any error message?

what do you get if you try on a terminal

ipkg -d /mnt/card install mypackage

(replacing mypackage with whatever you try to install)

I tried mounting mysql on /mnt/usr.  It would load but mysql wouldn't work:  It had trouble with  /tmp/mysql.sock.

Mysql started right up when I loaded it on the root (/).
