Radio Streaming On The Z
« on: January 06, 2006, 12:57:51 pm »
I've used Palm PDAs for a while and Linux on my home pcs and laptops. I'm thinking about getting a Zaurus SL-5500 Linux PDA off ebay as a PDA upgrade. My Palm doesn't have wifi, memory expansion, or a color screen-all things I'd like and that an old Zaurus has. I see there is still plenty of OpenSource software available for it-an mplayer Zaurus PDA port is one.

I use MPlayer on my Linux box at home to stream in internet radio. Could I do this on a Zaurus SL-5500 through headphones and have a portable internet streaming radio device?

Yes.  I use mplayer to do this on my SL-5500.  There was another shareware product called zradio or something that I used for a while, too.

I'm not sure for a 5500, but kino2 also does shoutcast.  It just doesn't go out and retrieve a list of radio stations.
I'm now an iphone user and use my zaurii as serial terminals, perl and shell scripting and when I need 640x480 screens
