Kino2: Confused About Pre-rotating
« on: November 08, 2005, 11:02:17 pm »
Fyi this is for the Kino2 in Cacko 1.23 . . . on 860/3100

I am confused about how pre-rotating works. I created several files (320x240) with pocketdivxencoder: portrait, landscape (pre-rotated 90-deg). If I run mplayer from the terminal, it is as expected: portrait is sideways, landscape looks right.

Now the part that is confusing with kino2. I make sure the autorotate is not checked in preferences. The portrait file when played with the hardware scale checked or unchecked, looks to have been rotated by kino2 (i.e., it is not sideways).

With the (hardware) auto scale unchecked, the landscape pre-rotated file looks the way it is supposed to (i.e., just right). BUT if I check the auto scale in the menu, the landscape file is now sideways and wrong aspect ratio and the video performance is not good.

From what I have read including for kino2, pre-rotating is the preferred way to get better video performance. But . . . kino2 doesn't seem to be working for the pre-rotated files. Maybe, I am doing something wrong. Can someone enlighten me?

(I also encoded with Gordian Knot with similar results).
