encryption is done by CPU not by card probably - I did not tried WPA yet.

My error. I finally noticed that my DVR computer wasn't connecting well via WPA either. The problem lay in my wireless router, which had not been rebooted in a while (need to upgrade as soon as dd-wrt v23 is final).
Anyway, I rebooted my router, and both DVR and Zaurus were very happy, fast connections, much joy.
Many thanks to those who helped; I'm glad to finally have the Z on the net! Admittedly, I still have to manually run wpa_supplicant and udhcpc, but it's a good start.
