Letter Case Of Filenames On Cards

Hi,

I've observed this for some time and not absolutely sure if it's been discussed here before (tried search but didn't manage to find relevant results).
It seems that the filenames on cards tend to switch from captials to small letters automatically when reading on Z.  It seems only 'simple' filenames are affected, those with symbols such as ".", "_" etc in them remain intact.  Originally it doesn't seems to be an issue for "usual" reading/writing.  But I have come across several instances in which I failed to compile natively some source files on card because during make it complains about some missing files, despite the fact that they are actually there, only with the difference that the original filenames in capitals become all small letters.  This never happens on desktops, though.
I was wondering if this can be a real issue (for compilation, for example), or it's just all my misunderstanding?  Could someone tell me what's going on here?  Thanks!

I found that if I make a backup copy of my zaurus files on a CD using Windows, that the lower-case letters get turned into all caps. Then if I copy from the CD to a flash card, the filenames are all caps, and I have to rename the files. This only happens in Windows though. Also some pdf files change from uppercase (in Windows) to lowercase in the Z, but I have not had that happen with regular filenames.

I've found this to be the case with FAT formatted cards. Format your card ext2 and this'll never happen. I did and have not experienced this behavior afterwards...

Now I realize I'm sorta caught in a difficult situation: I have ext2 formatted cards available, but my iBook (10.4.3) just cannot access ext2/3 filesystem.  What a shame...
Trying to get an Ubuntu live CD to boot up my ibook to see if things will be different.

ext2fsx doesn't yet support 10.4, but it sounds like they're not too far from supporting it:

That's good news.  But meanwhile what else can we do?  Sadly it seems there are just so few mac -zaurus users and the whole situation is to a large extent sweeped under the carpet (apart from the great efforts of dhns of course) ...    
So I boot up my Tiger iBook using an Ubuntu Live CD (5.10).  After mounting the harddisk I moved some source files to an ext2-formatted SD.  All the filenames remain intact without any change of the case.  And compilation can proceed without complaining about missing (captial-letter-name) files.
Off topic: This is my first time touching upon Ubuntu.  It's beauty just makes me think of setting up a dual-booting environment now.
