Ko/pi Small Request...hey I'll Pay You For It..
« on: December 21, 2005, 08:40:04 pm »
ive got this idea, how about an alarm being able to trigger a program, say flite and have flite actually say what the alarm is about? say "description of the todo/event etc..." ? Now that would kick some butt, your pda tells you that you need to buy bread before you go home, or whatever. Would it be feasable? you could have checkboxes to select whether it told you description, catergory or type(todo/event).

and you could have an option to have alarm go off first...to grab your attention.

Great idea!
I would use this feature and be the envy other pda users.

I think that is a really cool idea. I dont think it would be very difficult to implement either. you should contact Zautrix and tell him. Seems simple enough. all you would have to do is give it the path and executable name and it could run the script. The only problem would be getting the "other" program to do what you want when it is opened.

The only other thing would be to record your own voice then play back that file. Change the default one in KO/PI.

Currently you can start any program as an alarm action.

But if you pay me my hourly rate of 50$ I can implement what you want, of course...

yea but how do I get it to say what the todo/event is (the description)? I believe that would have to be integrated into the program

this can be done pretty easly, on my linux box festival (I think thats the right name) will say anything as long as the text is passed in the command line.

Btw, really cool idea, only wont help my 5500.

hmm - I looked for this feature in all docs I could find, but I didn't find it.
Could you please point us to the right document?

This feature would be extremely interesting for running nightly automated backups! I have done this on the HP palmtop: Each night at 3am a backup script was called which checked, if the machine was on AC power and if yes, it did a full backup of all user data (about 1 hour). If not, it only backed up the most important and daily changing data and then switched off the machine again.

That way I had always a recent backup with me an in the rare case of data loss I could always restore the state of last night.

If someone's interested in that backup strategy and wants to help to "port" it to the Zaurus, here is the description:
