YAZR (Yet Another Zaurus ROM) - Special K
« on: June 09, 2003, 06:03:10 pm »
Hi to all, i make a new rom for my personal use but i want to share it with you (current V0R3).

This rom has:

Application Changes:

* Opera was removed (use the IPK from other sites)
* Patience was removed
* RomUpdate was removed
* System Info added from Opie (new for R3)

Kernel Changes:

* Added JFFS2 support to the Kernel
* Boot image changed
* Removed the irda stack from kernel 2.4.6 ( use the default 2.4.18 stack, the change don\'t fix the IRDA)

FileSystem changes:

* Root filesystem ( / ) changed to RW JFFS2 ( insted of ro cramfs )
* Changes on the /root/etc/rc.d/rc.rofilesystem (fixes)
* .home_default.tar changed to .home_default.tar.gz (new for R3)
* .dev_defailt.tar changed to .dev_default.tar.gz (new for R3)
* .var_default.tar changed to .var_default.tar.gz (new for R3)
* Home ( /home ) mounted on SD card
* 64 MB of RAM

You can download the rom is you want from the ZUG Downloads or http://www.kerberos-research.com/zaurus

And, this is a betta and buggy release so USE AT YOUR OWN RISK  :twisted:

Regards,

Please tell me what you think  :wink:

thanks for the update kerberos

im guess that the backup issue isnt a big one, cause from what i see you didnt make that many major changes that one would think would affect that, but your more in the know that i am. its not really an that big of a problem for me though, since the the only reason i really wanted to do it was to save my icon work, but like you said with / rw i wont have to do any fancy symlinking to do everything i want. i can just rename and toss them in.

anyway, ive never really done any work with these roms but maybe i will look into doing a kerberos rom with crystal icon set. or maybe making a package to change them out. the current package for that doesnt seem to be up to my standards, but i cant complain since i havent made a better one yet

I was realy excited to try this rom but could not get it to install properly.  the flash went fine, but when doing first boot I got an input/output error.  I\'m using an sl-5500.  My CF is formatted vfat and I have tried with the sd card formated vfat, ext2 and unformated.  Same results.  I know my hardware is fine as other roms work, even home on SD with TKC2.0Alpha3

UPdate:  I did get this installed correctly.  i re-formatted my SD and all is good now.  Problem is I realy wasn\'t very happy with it.  I found the home on SD was only half done.  It still reported an SD card and it still reported the writeable flash as internal storage and the SD monitor was still running and everything else.

Good work so far, but a litle too beta for me yet. Keep at it K
