Gpe Book Reader
« on: April 10, 2006, 03:53:50 pm »
I've gone down several different avenues trying to get a book reader, ANY book reader working under GPE. I've tried using java apps and looking outside the feeds. Nothing I've tried has worked. This is the one application that I really miss from using OPIE (opie-reader is GREAT). I don't want to go back (and yes, I've thought of dual booting between the two, I'll play with that one day, but just for one app!?). I've also tried just using a browser or gpe-plucker, but neither allow for easy, if any, bookmarking, changing text size, mapping the wheel buttons for page up/down, etc.

If there's anything else out there that I can try, please make the suggestion. thks

(ahem) Now that I've calmed down, a few comments .

On my poodle, I can't get to the Colors or Keys tabs (there's no scroll bar at the bottom of the settings window & it's too wide, even in landscape). Fortunately I managed to open the app on my pc & change the settings there, so this is not insurmountable.

Links in html files aren't recognized (the reader doesn't show the code, but it won't do anything if clicked).

On the other hand, links are usable in a plucker file, but they seem to jump twice when clikced/tapped. So for example, I have a some books that I've split into separate html files for each chapter, each with links to the previous & next chapters at the top of each file. There's also an index page with links to each chapter. I then converted the pages into a plucker file. If I tap a link at the top of chapter one to go to chapter two, chapter two appears for a second, then the reader skips to chapter three. The same when trying to go back to the index; the index page breifly appears, then it skips to chapter one. This is a problem that only happens when run on the Z. When I run it on my pc, then all's ok.
