http://www.linuxdevices.com/news/NS8847994509.htmlhttps://opensource.motorola.com/sf/sfmain/do/homeI hope this proves to be a successful model and shows companies (Are you listening Sharp!) who have devices running linux (Zaurus!) how to work with the open source developers to create viable applications, extend the functionality of devices and provide feedback for future platform innovation.
I am amazed with how much development and software innovation the open source community as done with the Zaurus platform from the SL-5000 to the SL-C3200. Where could things be if Sharp had decided to 'partner' with the open source community to develop ROMs, patches, applications, etc.
There is an active debate in another thread about whether we would benefit more if we circled our wagons around one distro (pdaXrom, OZ, or you choose). I think all of these would be better benefitted if Sharp got behind their own distro but made all source code available to the community. This might provide the stability that everyone is looking for that would make it easier for a OZ or pdaXrom to innovate.
Just some thoughts.
