My New C3200!
« on: May 26, 2006, 11:37:59 pm »
hi!

i am very n00b-ish when it comes to linux, so forgive me if i seem a little slow on the linux terminology...

This C3200 is totally new to me! (btw, it has been converted to english). i am otherwise a guru, master and collector when it comes to handhelds and PDAs, but this one is linux, and i just had to have it! it's new, it's cool, and feature rich! i picked it up from ebay for a pretty good price, and i just have a couple questions.

1) i have the cable required to use the mini usb port to hook up regular usb devices like usb flash drives. how do i install a usb flash drive?

2) i also picked up an Ambicom WL1100C-CF wifi compact flash card. it is one of the ones that is said to work on this device. uh, how do i get it to work?

3) since this device uses linux, can i install applications like open office? the only thing is, i have no idea how to do it, and i think the CD it came with was in Japanese. i am very n00b in linux. is there any easy or simplified way to install programs like open office?

4) and lastly, to determine whether any handheld is worthy of my large collection, i always install a super nintendo emulator. if it works, it's great! the only thing is, i have no idea how to do it, and i think the CD it came with was in Japanese. i am very n00b in linux. is there any easy or simplified way to install a snes emulator on this unit?

wow. that's all the questions i have for now. thx everyone! it's so good to enter the world of linux!

snes emulators are Creshos specialty, he has currently an ipk package for this, includes snes/nes/turbographix emulators. As for installing use your package installer for that. OpenOffice can be installed provided you install an x-server, such as Meanies pdaXqtrom, he also provides OpenOffice among lots of other goodies as well, you would be best if you read his site a few times, I read it from time to time he updates alot.

a usb flash drive should just work.  You might have to mount it manually. the "mount" command is relatively simple.  Simply make a directory where you want that drive mounted..like /mnt/usbcf  or something, then as root, using "su"  type "dmesg" after you've inserted the drive. you should get a message that says something about usb stuff at /dev/s**  (like /dev/sda1) then type mount /dev/s*** /mnt/usbcf (or whatever you named the mountpoint)  Later you can make this automatic.  (on some roms, I think it is already)

the ambicom should work immediately using the network applet in the settings tab.

You can install openoffice, but wait awhile.. you have enough to figure out just now.

there are nintendo emulators and a nice front end called zemufe on the feed at zaurususergroup.com  and the cacko feed.  have a look at cacko soon (when you are a little more comfortable)--it is like the oriiginal rom with some of the headaches removed.  Later on, when you are more comfortable try out pdaxrom, and OZ/opie and OZ/GPE.  You will be amazed at what these things can do---after you get past the first bit of the learning curve.

edit: see above what bam said about cresho and emulators. Probably better advice

be300x,
Some advice. Go to Meanie's Site and read up. He has just about anything you could think about doing on the Z in pretty easy to understand language. Start there.
