« on: May 30, 2006, 02:26:46 am »
Hello friends

I have a problem to install new packages, (e. g. xarchiver_0.3.1_arm.ipk)
But now i tried to install a package from my CF, with "Package manager and after i selected one (into the windows with a box (open), push "OPEN", the pda work and 15 secods later the packager manager showed as previously, the I think that this was installed, but this not happened. I repited the process with 3 packager mor and no one was installed.....
I do not know how to solve this problem.
And even, where is a box to make Backup/restores?
I can not fund this.
And the las one, how to put abiword, xpda.. to 640x480 and not ant 800x600.?
I thank you again for your help.

A tip.
Load the g_ether modules into your Zauri.
Connect via usb to your PC and modify the ipkg.conf file to point the Beta4 feeds.
It should work.
BYEZ!

Ok
1) Connect the Zauri to your Linux Desktop.
2) Open a xterm and type ifconfig usb0 10.0.0.10 netmask 255.255.255.0
Logically can type what address you want but it' s only to make you understand all the passages.
3) Open an Xterm on your Zauri and do ifconfig usb0 10.0.0.11 netmask 255.255.255.0
4) Add a route in your Zauri to your Desktop Gateway like this route add 10.0.0.10 default gw dev usb0
5) Add a route in your Desktop to your Zauri like this route add 10.0.0.11 gw 10.0.0.10 dev usb0
Now you have all the Ethernet ruoting done.

After that you have 2 ways:
1) Download the packages to your Desktop and wake up an Ftp server to point the /etc/ipkg.conf src setting to.
2) Access directly the Internet with the Zauri.
But to do this it' s a little more complicated, as you have to NAT your USB devices trough the Desktop Internet one with a firewall.
Rmember to add the Packages list file to your Desktop FTP server if you choose the 1st solution, as it' s the first thing ipkg search about the feed.

Hi jose-vi

Are you trying to install a package from a file you have downloaded, or from the Internet?

Where are you trying to install it to?

How do you find out it failed to install?

Problems To Install Packages

Hello
I have forget to tell you that I have a Zaurus SL C-1000, and a 512 mb sd and a 1gb CF.
And I received my akita with  Cacko, 4 days latter(as i can not  suspend cacko), and as I wantted to use Abiword and other office software changed to PdaXrom, i am very happy to have a Zaurus, but as I can not install nothing, then i can not change, copy, delete, ... files, and I have surprised about the lack of a program to made a Backup/restore system of the pdaxrom (not a flash backup), because Cacko have it, however do not have a extended wordproccesor (as Abiword), and a excel page (something near this).
To explain it :
my ipk files to install are inside:
i installed pdaXrom 1.1beta.0
/mnt/cf/zaurus 29-05-06/jo--/feed-base/
and in
package manager appears:
src cacko unstable http://......
dest /home
dest /jose

I try to install xarchiver.ipk, this appeared later as a package available, decreased free memory, the icon do not appear, oppened xterm, writted:
xarchiver
but do not happen nothing
latter :
abiword
and it appeared and run.
I do not know to use term commands (shell commands), i readed 2 pdf and do not understood how to use it.
I can not believe that this happend to every people that uses pdaxrom.
and even now i continue with the problem

Hi jose-vi

If the free memory decreased, then something must have installed. Packages like abiword need a lot of space and really should be installed on a card rather than internal memory. Your '/etc/ipkg.conf' file should have these lines in it:

Code: [Select]
dest cf /mnt/cf
dest sd /mnt/card
...so you can install onto cards. According to what you have below these are missing?

Do the packages you tried to install show in the installed list? If so, try to remove them, then reinstall to your CF card destination.

I'm not 100% sure on this, but you may have to exit the window manager and 'startx' again to get the shortcuts to show up.

The gnumeric package I installed didn't have the dependencies set correctly in the package - just look for packages that include the libraries (iconv, etc) and install them and it should work. You're definitely on the right track - keep plugging!

Can you move it around and minimise/maximise it? Some of these apps need a better window manager to control them, and I'm not sure you are ready to take that step yet...

Hello Karlo
I installed pdaXrom 1.1.bata3.
And I have a cf 1gb, 512 mb Sd cards, and y try to install packages app and feed, but as I  said previously at starting says that needs libi.con.2 and liboffice, and I do not know where take others that works properly, please write a link to the correct app and feeds (I only need at this moment: Abiword (Fixed 640x480), gnumeric, xarchiver, firefox, and 3 or 6 more).
And I tried to install fron my sd writting at package manager config:

src za file:///mnt/card/feed

And I have seen at booting the next message( possible is important, I do not know):
Cramfs: wrong magic

between others lines ot text

Then I need to know the correct feeds for akita 1.1beta.3
or this rom are wrong???
is better 1.1.beta0??
explain me how and wich programs used you to make yor zaurus work

Perhaps download and install files manually to start with if you are having trouble with feeds. There are some extra feeds here:

[a href=\"http://mail.pdaxrom.org/community]http://mail.pdaxrom.org/community[/url]

More documentation here:
